Hey guys,

Since AboveBoard was the overall winner for the Time Travellers Writer's Contest from October, he's had the opportunity to choose this month's contest theme.

He's opted to let the community decide.

Themes:
1. Paranormal Mystery/Who Done It
2. Underground "Alien" Base
3. Archaeology - Weird Find
4. Mars Colony
5. Open Story - Main character pov is NOT human (could be a paranormal creature, an alien, an animal, a plant, a computer, whatever - just not human)

The format will be standard short story.

This thread will remain open until November 9th, 2013. The selected theme and the contest will begin on November 10th and run to the end of the month.

What say you?

I would go for

3. Archaeology - Weird Find

Lots of interesting possibilities. The stories should not be too similar.

Of course you could do 1,2,3 and 4 and have a winner for each category, just have a few more winners!

Just a thought!

I don't know the rules, can non-writers join in? How does one earn "writer"? As for topic, whatever is chosen.

Any ATS member may submit to the contest

You gain writer status by placing 1st or 2nd in the non-writer category.

Once the theme is selected I will create the official contest thread and the rest of the instructions and details will be available there.

You earn writer status by winning a short story contest. Anyone can enter into the short story contests. You win by having more people "vote" for your short story than any one else. Votes are flags.... anyone who gives you a flag is voting for your story.

The next contest starts on the 10th as noted in the OP of this thread. You should enter! Its fun! You just have to stick to the theme of the contest and any word limits that are in place. (Of course any story must be within the T&C's!!)

Thanks. Couple more questions (and other people reading this may enjoy the answers too). When and how are the stories posted, and are the stars given after everyone entering posts? Or is it at the same time? And is the rule that you can't start a story until a certain time on the 10th? Tempting to play the game, thanks for the ground rules.

EDIT: I posted after 10ths post, some questions answered. Thanks.

5. Open Story Possibly about a superior society living within belly button lint...

Kidding but I have been working on a sci-fi story that fits better within the Open category!

So here's how it works.

I post the official contest thread.

You post your story in a seperate thread within the short stories forum.

You then post in the entry thread, and link to your story.

Winners are determined by scoring. 1 flag is equal to 2 points and 1 star is equal to 1 point.

You can post your story anytime after the official entry thread is posted, right up until the deadline.

People vote throughout the contest, so it's best to post earlier than later, but I give at least 2 or 3 days after the contest closes for people to read all the stories and vote accordingly.

Thank you! Yes, I was quite startled to learn of the change myself!
I have informed 10th of my she-ness.
Poor guy has enough going on with his new Super-Powers - hard to keep track of stuff... lol!

So you are writing a new sci-fi? Cool! Non-human is the rule...for the main pov IF that is the Contest Theme chosen. Can't wait to read it!
