For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic.

Though I was never a huge fan of his political style, Charlton Heston was right when he said that... political correctness was tyranny with manners.

Personally, I don't have much respect for the abuse of words like 'racist' and 'homophobic' anyway. These are today used as baiting tags, like scarlet letters, applied to anyone who dares to voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a very narrow, myopic and polarized viewpoint. In fact, the term 'homophobic' suggests an actual fear of homosexuality... which is pretty silly to begin with.

Our society has become so thin-skinned that the old childhood lesson of how sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never hurt you, is all but forgotten today. Say the politically incorrect thing... and you can be fallen upon as if by a pack of wild dogs.

Of course, that kind of attack is as easily ignored as the ridiculous concept it so often barks, lol.

The whole politically correct movement is stupid. Adjusting vernacular to appease specific groups of people is dumb.

The word gay and the beautiful rainbow are now perverted.

You know what I just realized I have no idea how the word gay came to represent the gay community, the rainbow either.

You know, that's a good point.
Where or who started the rainbow to represent the gays?
Just curious....

What's absurd about this whole thing is the word 'gay' in this song is being used as an adjective, to describe the apparel as cheery, bright or maybe festive.
But what they have done is turn it into a noun, making it out to refer to 'gay' as in a person.
Silly people

Guys, let's look at it this way... it is one word in a song that is celebrating an event that shouldn't matter (the birth of a Jewish carpenter that was then put to death for being a rabble rousing socialist)...

Why do you care what the lyrics are?

Are you 4?

If company wants to change something, have at it as it is their product and the masses won't notice/care.

It isn't like they were changing something to thinly hide an agenda like the GOP hiding its racist motives when it brought out the "Southern Strategy". Now that is offensive, but I digress.

Don't get your panties in a bunch as there never has been nor will there ever be Jewish carpenter zombies who loved to hang out with prostitutes, lepers and assassins.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

But remember to take it easy, man.

Derek
