There are 104 nuclear reactors in 31 states around the country. We can shut them down. We can attempt to limit how many active reactors there are in the world. Fukushima may have been the first shot in a nuclear war. We, are taking the majority of the contamination coming from Fukushima. It will effect our children, and our descendants for the rest of time on this planet. Clearly Japan lies to its own people! Japan is willing to kill hundreds of thousands of their own people, and the leaders of the world are more than willing to permit this. We can no longer trust our leaders. It's time for a change.

It is really not that simple. You can't just flip a switch and "shut down" a nuclear power plant. It takes billions, if not trillions, of dollars and a few decades to safely shut down a nuclear power plant (with our current level of technology). This is the problem with humanity; short term thinking and greed led us to build these things with no feasible way to get rid of them. Now, all of the Earth's inhabitants pay the price.

The only difference between Fukishima and an asteroid heading towards the earth is its already here...and the asteroid would be a whole lot more merciful.

Shutting down any reactor that is well maintained and regulated is dumb because they pose no threat. Fukushima was bad because you had TEPCO cutting corners, and not following regulations when they had to. Their planning was terrible and they should have known better but didn't. Nuclear power is vastly important for the human race, let's not forget that.

Nuclear Power
is a dead end.......(pardon the pun)
It will take far more energy and resources to deal with the nuclear wastes than all the cheap power that it has produced to date.....the cleanup bill will (like the national debt) NEVER be paid.....
simply too expensive, so they will let the plebes die instead.....s

So why is the media so very quiet on this subject?

Dav1d

I believe that humanity is standing on the brink of a possible worldwide nuclear holocaust. The world as we know it has already changed as the result of radioactive material that has been released into the air and the ocean.

I am not an alarmist, but I am alarmed.

I know that large quantities of radioactive material are in a precariously unstable situation in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility. An inability to effectively keep this material cool could easily result in another nuclear event. Another natural disaster like the recent typhoon or earthquake that occurred October 25, 2013, will further minimize the likelihood of a meaningful response.

I know that I don’t know all of the details, risks, and levels of radioactivity. I do know I have been exposed. I consumed Pacific Bluefin tuna (PBFT) caught off the coast of San Diego four weeks ago. A Stanford study has shown that all PBFT caught off the West Coast of California had 10 times the usual amount of radioactive cesium present prior to the Fukushima event in March 2011.

I believe that our health is the great equalizer. In my clinical career, I have had the good fortune to care for the homeless and the disenfranchised and the rich and the famous. When one is lying in a hospital bed with those special gowns that are wide open in the back, everyone is pretty much the same. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat are gifts of life for all of us no matter what our creed or our color.

I know that these precious gifts have been contaminated. The silence from the media and the powers that be has been deafening.

So why is the media so very quiet on this subject? California is the breadbasket for much of America, with California contaminated, our food from California has the potential to kill us...

The fear of Panic.

I will forget that. There is no human race, there are only human beings.

Fukushima is a big issue, and I fully expect it to be one that keeps on growing over the next ten years or so. I think it is one of those things where people like to pretend it doesn't exist, or they forget about it, but the problem is going to be around for a while, like it or not -

more than two and a half years which is enough to find a solution for this disaster , i mean cant they make a robot with wheels and arms and send it to collect the rods and put them in a safe place ?

im no expert but correct me if im wrong

Hate to say i told you all so......but I told you all so.

From this moment we are no longer eating seafood, and we live in South Australia....arguably best seafood in the world.

I just can't help but worry about the Southern Bluefin Tuna who migrate into those polluted waters and then back down.

Ironically, most of our caught tuna gets sold to Japan.

The power plant in my town was built to last 40 years. Now that the 40 years is up, they decided it could last 60 years. This year, it has had to shut down 10 times in 10 months. I love my town, but I am hoping to move soon. The power plant is a "sister" of Fukushima, very similar design. If you look on a map of nuclear power plants in the US, they are almost entirely on the right side of the country, and zero in the middle, like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana have none. Here is a map: www.nrdc.org...

A 6 Day old (fresh!) File about Seafood from the Fukushima Area,
please read it, Research the CRMS and ask yourself "Naaaaannnnnnde"?

Dozo o Kudasai, J-Seafood ND!

Actually there are a lot of Files, u just need to look for it

Everyone start taking Chlorella. Source Chlorella that isn't grown in Japan and far away from radiation and fallout. The best I have found (Although I heard there is possibility of radiation) is Clean Chlorella.

This guy should be seen as a planetary traitor - where was this concern 2.5 years ago? Anyone, and I mean anyone, who had ANY information or influence in this arena and did not speak up 1 hour after it happened is a planetary traitor.

I really mean that. The pocket protector scumbags who failed to keep the public discourse after hour 1 are planetary traitors. The fact the nearly all were to afraid of loosing their jobs to speak up loudly and often are guilty of selling out humanity for a few more years of paychecks.

Someone designed that system, purposefully put it in an earthquake zone, population center and tsunami zone. One man involved in its design quit because he viewed the thing as a planetary time bomb, yet pocket protector scumbags who feared for their jobs pushed on. BTW, they made damn sure to put THREE plants in such unstable areas, THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you know a nuclear scientists, SHUN THEM. Refuse to talk to them, refuse to help them with their children, refuse to feed them if you have the opportunity as they HATED YOU from day one - how else can you explain what they have done? They built something that in its current state has no solutions, only duct tape hacks - it was not the water that caused this it was the design.

They built something WITHOUT any solution to the endless tonnage of toxic waste. And more importantly, the entire reason they built these, the ENTIRE reason, was to make bombs to kill you with. They needed a way to process the material to kill you with. Shun these people now and forever, make sure they understand what they have done to Earth.

Those reactors were built in the 1960's. The US DofE encouraged the Japanese to choose American made reactors to prove that the designs were safe to the American public. All the engineers and regulators involved in the original design have already been decommissioned and are pushing up the daisies.

I worry what that water is going to do to the ice caps. Whether the radiation will heat up ice and make it melt or whether it will sink down into the ocean bed and heat up those methane gases.

I'm not commenting on how alarmed (or not) you should be about Fukushima, however can you tell me why I should listen to a guy who works at an HIV clinic in Santa Barbara?

The guy's expertise is treating people with HIV and Infectious diseases - he has no more expertise in nuclear engineering than I do.

It seems he's just written a sensationalist piece for the local newspaper's website to promote a talk he was giving. I see no reason to take any notice of it.

you're not supposed to believe him, you're supposed to be awakened enough by his testimony, to go and research for yourself. i think it's great that "educated" trusted community individuals are coming forward and doing what our govt. should have in the beginning. keeping 7 billion in the dark "for their own good" is a very dark gesture to say the least.

Baseless fearmongering. Even in a worst case scenario, the effect on ocean radioactivity in Europe or the US would be barely measurable with sensitive instruments. People underestimate just how vast and deep the ocean is. There is simply no way how Fukushima could bring about a worldwide "nuclear holocaust", even based on dubious linear-no-threshold models of radiation threat and worst case scenarios. Japan is the only country that has something to worry about.

Unfortunately robots won't help, the problem with Fukushima is the rods that keep on giving, and the bad part is for a millennium.

The answer to Nuclear power is shut down every reactor worldwide.

The solution to Fukushima is the world needs to start working together now.

It is also so funny again (???)
how the so called "Alternative Media" repost the same Article
on and on (because it is "a Doc"?) one, two Times around the Globe
in the matter of just 30 Hours!

We talk now about him instead of talking about the real Problem
(our need and greed for Energy!)
and we need to ask who are the real Shills who distract us
from a much needed Discussion about our Society!

With the consequences to the whole planet being so dire if Fukushima goes down or gets worse, why the hell are all the countries who have nuclear knowledge not coming together, east and west, to help Japan with money, expestise end specialist equipment to try and sort this out? Our governments, it seems, are happier spending billions on other means of slaughter and contamination. It is so frustrating!

I mostly agree with you that this event is being sensationalized to produce panic and anti-nuclear sentiments, but you miss that some of the radioactive waste is stuck in ocean currents and isn't being spread out across the whole ocean, as you imply. Furthermore, these currents go directly to the western coast of the US and because the radioactivity is concentrated, more of it will arrive in US waters.

I think that the effects of this will be measurable and there will be more cancers I'm sure, but the real effects are (as you accurately say) in Japan and in the minds of the people who believe the fear-mongering. Nuclear power has always scared people and disasters of this sort have the capacity to cause harm by causing panic.
