This won't happen...just like that NK satellite that will fall out of orbit in 'just a few days' after launch. Two launches in just one year. They did it. If you think it is not monitoring us you are delusional.

First, it showed they can put a payload into space. Second, they are purchasing that technology. Third, China WOULD NOT want a nuclear wasteland in their backyard so I am not sure if we could retaliate like we would want to or some of us envision.

If we attacked NK I fully feel that China would launch something similar to what they are showing here which may very well be why we have never done anything.

China is still very very unhappy about WW2. Read some history on it...

I think this has more to do with Japan than us - and as long as the US doesn't get involved with Diaoyu island or other provocations by Japan we should be fine.

Just some children playing with their toys, U.S. is the same way, this is nothing new.

What is new about this is that China released the information. It's common sense that this would be Chinas plan, but they have never released it like this before. They are flexing their muscles a bit. There must be a reason why. The question is ... what message are they sending and to whom are they sending it???

Yep, but really its not a big deal.

During the cold war it was the same, its just bluster and pandering, they need to look strong with the US presence in the Pacific.

Though I wish we would get past the Insanity of MAD thinking.

Its little comfort that the US forces would immediately analate China after any such attack (our nuclear subs are far more advance and plentiful) Does little if half the country is suddenly gone.

I hope you meant annihilate....

I hope the US doesn't ANALate anyone...

Due to how billets are filled; a woman would always get the slot over a man.

That is just what users have been saying on this website mind you.

OK - thanks.

Although there are a lot of women in all of the branches of our intelligence services I can assure you that they do not outnumber men. The ratio is probably skewed far more towards the other side of the spectrum than you think. I'll give you 2 big reasons:

1 - Intelligence had traditionally been a male-dominated field. Even more so than others of "the time". And the glass walls there were very hard to break.

2 - Taking into account all of the current military intelligence personnel and the fact that many civilian intelligence folks come from the military (intelligence and operations sides), coupled with the fact the military is still primarily male, simply leads to far more men gravitating towards the field.

There definitely are a *lot* more women now than even 10 years ago. But that's a lot of ground to make up.

I'm hoping they do it.

Every time we buy Chinese products, we are funding this country. I would really like to know when it became acceptable and a good idea to trade with a country that has an attack plan against us?

Maybe the message is simple - a) that China has second strike capabilities [meaning that if the US does strike first, MAD will still be inevitable, b) posturing over Taiwan, c) assuring the US that it would be willing to engage in a nuclear war over Taiwan and therefore deterring US commitment to the Island.

It does not mean that China intends to initiate a nuclear strike or that a nuclear war will occur. If you think that the US does not have similar nuclear plans for China, you would be fooling yourself.

If China was really planning an attack on the US, do you think that they would publish them?

True, most 'sabre rattling' amounts to countries bragging about how much firepower they could deliver to an enemy, not name the cities they planned to destroy!
Wonder if they think we would stand idly by while they nuked us? Since we are the only country to use atomic weapons on a city you would think they would realize a return strike would be eminent!
Scary stuff coming from an unstable country!

Well guess what, we will get involved with Diaoyu, and anything else that we wish to get involved in when it comes to The Pacific, which is a very large part of our territory. We won't get caught sleeping in the Pacific again, course FDR's role in that is another discussion.

As a matter of fact, we are increasing our Naval presence in The Pacific as we speak, and will continue to do so. Our allies in Japan will be defended at all costs as well, make no mistake about that. And one more thing, we will also be fine anyway. ~$heopleNation

China wouldn't go this alone. If it does happen most likely Russia will be helping. Nuke the biggest threats then a full scale invasion. The ground troops would be stationed in Mexico on the border so the Texans will be the first to get their asses handed to them. USA couldn't win a war against China and Russia. I know alot of people are like pssshhht you can't beat us. Here's reality... USA is not invincible.

All they have to do is cripple the power grid and nuke military bases and big cities. Then the military couldn't fight back we would be scattered and unprepared.

I had a huge reply with numbers. Forget about it.

Glad to hear we haven't gone from a couple of nutters out in the field with some surveyors equipment figuring out novel ways to destroy Communism, to some women in a room killing kids in a different country.

It's depressing seeing an image, created by a nation, depicting how many fellow humans they can murder with their machines.

If they really wanted to take out the U.S., why not send out a good hundred nukes in storage containers with all those wonderful goods we get from them? Than when the time was right, detonate them all off at once. We wouldn’t even know what hit us until it was too late. And no, we wouldn’t necessarily be able to detect them once the containers reached the states. Nuclear material can be shielded with the right material.

All that wonderful American greed of Chinese goods will probably be our undoing. That new AWESOME refrigerator you’ve been waiting for from China just might be something with a little surprise inside.

You are deeply mistaken if you believe that nonsense. Listen to reality, Texas is not going to lay down for any Chinese or imaginary Russian invasion. Russia will side with us in the end anyway cause the intelligent Russians understand that once America is gone, The Chinese will slowly consume them. They know this because the Russians are not stupid.

Let's play along though for the fun of it. If They had their armies anywhere near our borders, we would use tactical Nukes to wipe them completely out. I won't even mention what we would do to any of their landing forces which not even one single man would survive what they would face unless they were small special ops teams that landed prior to us detecting the main invading forces.

Eventually, our elite Seal teams would quickly eliminate any stragglers as well. What you said sounds good, but you bumped your head really hard my friend. You have no idea whatsoever about what would happen to anyone who attempted to invade the United States of America. They will never be able to even hold a beach, let alone supply any of their desperate forces. It would be a turkey shoot for our bombers. Dream on, nice fantasy though. ~$heopleNation

This is utterly impossible. They can wipe out civilian power but the military has backup systems. If they somehow coordinate a bunch of EMP's and disable the entire continental military, we have both tactical nukes and ICBM's that could launch from submarines. If necessary, we would nuke our own territory to kill an invading force, at the same time we would also nuke Russia and China. Combined they can send about 2000 nukes at us. We can send 4x that at them, and still have some in reserve. On top of this scenario, if anyone did survive it the world would be in ruins. Putting aside the nuclear fallout issue for the moment, this act would destroy the international monetary system. China's money would be worthless... it largely holds international value right now due to being backed by dollars. The dollar would be equally worthless (sidenote: we own more chinese debt as a percent of gdp than the chinese own of ours), and Russia wouldn't be much better off. All three countries would experience massive hyperinflation which would bring about collapse.

Attacking the US like this would be an unmitigated disaster. No invading troops would hold any territory, millions would die on both sides, and everyones economy would be ruined. All that assumes we don't have a missile defense shield capable of severely reducing the number of nuclear strikes we take, and that the invading troops actually make it across the ocean and through our naval defenses.

The US isn't invincible, it can and has lost wars before, but given the state of modern day technology it's much easier to lose an offensive war than a defensive one. It's why we pick on weak countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. They don't have the defenses of developed nations where successful attack is virtually impossible. That said a massive suicide attack could hurt us but not destroy us. Anyone who does initiate that suicide strike wouldn't be around long enough to see it fail.

the Chinese insane threats to take millions of innocent lives without anyone threatening China right now are shocking to incomparable degree. Dark shadows of Hitler and imperial Japan rise on the sky, this time nuclear armed and having different names. For China there is no MAD because it doesn't value the life of its own citizens that are "too many" to be cared of.

It shows the need of a supranational force of deterrent that will strike equally every nuclear aggressor. It could be space based lasers or even nukes if needed. The aggressor whoever it might be must know that in 2 minutes after his missiles are launched he will be stricken by the supra-national overwhelming force, and stricken hard in the headquarters of power as well as on his remaining nuclear forces. The space based deterrent should be strong enough.

It is difficult in a polarized world to do that. But what we see from China as flagrant neo-fascism of nuclear projections of extermination on mega scale, calls for nothing less than that. WIll UNSC vote against China? No, it has a veto power. Damn it!

Since there isn't such a supra-national structure with such abilities, and the chances to be established by the current world powers is slim, we should look for other outcomes. (unless the extraterrestrials come and do it for us - as some insiders claim the ET already prevented nuclear wars on more than one occasion, ref. Bob Dean).

Will USA preemptively strike China under any scenario, targeting its nuclear weapons first and foremost? Does it involve automoatically a strike on Russia? That would be already a dangerous move.

Will Russia continue to be a 100% ally of a country that raises rhetoric comparable and surpassing that of Hitler and the Japanese butchers of WW2? Will Russia stay behind China if indeed China puts in practice its threats?

WIl the other nuclear powers that are not small powers take some initiative in their hands to organize collective security from threats of similar character? Let say India who wil be the most endangered one, calls for a British - French alliance against any nuclear aggressor. It is easy to see the world divided between NATO and SCO. But the nuclear aggresion against purely civilian targets calls for re-evaluation of such structures. Brazil is closing on the nuclear too. Perhaps the non-aligned countries with India as a leader from the near past could provide their own nuclear umbrella, that will include also other non-nuclear countries.

Otherwise, we have already given Asia to China, including Australia, and pray mainland USA to be somehow spared. China shows it won't be satisfied with controlling economically Asia or beating Japan. It wants to destroy USA as primary goal. Expressed in shocking yet stupid way if it is the Terminator movie.
