A Syrian air defense base near the coastal city of Latakia was reportedly destroyed Wednesday night, with multiple Syrian and Lebanese sources speculating that an Israeli strike from the Mediterranean was to blame.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a loud explosion in a Syrian army base, and Twitter users quoted eyewitnesses who said the blast occurred near Snobar Jableh, just south of the city.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the explosion was the result of a missile strike from the sea. And social media exploded with posts alleging that Israel was responsible.

Would Israel take down Syrian Air Defense bases to create a zone to fly into Iran. Just in the last couple of days Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would have to unilaterally strike Iran to prevent them from acquiring their nuclear weapons, which could be reached in a months time. Just wondering if they were going to strike Iran, would this be a reasonable route, or would another route be better, say across Iraq?

Perhaps these planes were in the air in a holding pattern incase something happened to the other jets whom were actually doing the bombing run.

IE, if something had shot those jets out of the sky, then these holding pattern jets would go in and destroy the AA sites.

Dunno.. but Syria has been quiet lately.

Lebanon isn't very big, and violating airspace for the sake of a holding pattern seems unlikely. You're not in Lebanese airspace unless you want to be, more or less.

I hear ya man!

Israel cannot just sit tight! They are ruled by warmongers always talking about aggression towards their neighbors. And the worst part of it is...they are sponsored by Uncle Sam...

My goodness, Old benji has been busy today. Announcing 3500 more settler units, and now this. I think he is upset with the rest of the world that has chosen diplomacy. He is a mad man, needs to be arrested.

Great info.
Has anything else come out to confirm that planes executed the strike? I know the section listed above says they violated space on reconnaissance but not that they delivered munitions..

Israel warned them weeks ago that they seen what was going on and would deal with it, if it did not stop. Those were more Iranian missiles going to Hezbollah. Israel blew the crap up and then Obama runs and leaks it to CNN to try and cause a big ho ha to get everyone's attention away from his health care facade.

Israel does not want war with Lebanon as their are a lot of Christians there but Syria and Iran have it coming for always trying to use Hezbollah and Hamas to fight their battles. Hezzy and Hamas hide in among the innocent and Israel is trying to avoid war for the simple fact that innocent people will die and Israel will get the blame even though its the terrorist who always start the fights.

Call it like it is, Syria and Iran are chumps and hopefully one day the Terrorist themselves will see how they are used by them.

Israel can fly across Syria at will so blowing up this base had nothing to do with an air corridor. The Saudis have already gave them a route and base for refueling and rearming.

Shipping weapons to a known terrorist cell is hardly unprovoked. Especially when known terrorist cell has every intention of using the weapons on civilian populations and not military targets.

And in the midst of all this, this hit the AP wire an hour ago according to Yahoo News:

In midst of Syrian war giant Jesus statue arises

What a crazy mess the Middle East has become. Everything from the good to the horrific with everything in between including tons of misinformation & speculation along with the intense interest of a number of "superpowers".

All of the ingredients for a great catastrophe...

What the hell are you talking about? There is no shipment of weapons, unless the word of a lone "anonymous Middle East intelligence official" is enough to condone one nation attacking another sovereign nation. This was an unprovoked airstrike on a military base. The only terrorists here are the rebels waging a war on the Syrian regime, the Israelis cowardly sitting back and launching missiles at them, and psychopathic warmongers like yourself who support these acts of mass, unprovoked murder.
