We've all heard the stories about Roswell and we all have our own opinions about it. I've been reading the book, Witness To Roswell by Tom Carey and Don Schmitt. They have interviewed over 600 first and second hand witnesses, people who were there and lived the rest of their lives in fear of what would happen if they talked about it. This thread is just to tell you what happened from what the witnesses have said.

I will start with the crash sites.
The first site was the debris field where a lot of pieces of metal were found, there was a lot more than the official story would have you believe. The sheep pasture was almost totally blanketed with the strange wreckage. One driver spent two days travelling to this site in an empty truck, leaving it there and driving back with a full load, then back to the debris field in another empty truck.

For two and a half years the military men, dressed like ranchers on horseback, would go out searching the debris field looking for any pieces that might have been missed. They would leave using a gate at a remote part of the base that didn't lead to anywhere except for the debris field. This was the only way they could get there, using the back roads to avoid going through the town where they would have been seen.

The second site was where two or three bodies were found and an RAAF photographer was taken to take photos of the bodies. when he was done, his cameras, camera case and films were all confiscated. These two sites were both on the Foster ranch in Lincoln County where Brazel worked. It is believed that Brazel and Marcel both saw these bodies, Marcel called them pygmy aliens.

The third site was where the egg shaped pod was found with three bodies and one live alien, a second photographer was sent to this site. The pod was about 12 to 15 feet long 5 feet wide and 6 feet high, it appeared to be made of metal with no widows.

An eighteen wheeler lowboy truck was used to transport the pod back to the base. It was driven through the town and although it was covered, some people did get a glimpse of the wreckage sticking out. The shape of the pod was clear for all to see, from the boys selling newspapers on the street to the builder working on the roof, it was escorted by armed guards. This site was in Chaves County, burn marks were seen on the ground and men were testing for radioactivity.

Sergeant Brown couldn't understand why they had ice in some of the trucks. He was ordered not to look in the back of his ambulance, but he did look and he saw the little bodies with large heads.

There was a report of a crashed saucer with bodies, on the Plains of San Agustin just south west of the town of Magdalena. 150 miles west of Brazel's sheep pasture. They said this was much too far for the RAAF to have been involved in the recovery operation there, there was no date for this other than 1947.

In September 1947 another site was found about five miles north west of the debris field. It's thought that this could be a possible touchdown point, because the sand in that area had crystallised. They found more pieces of the metal that had been found in the debris field, but they also found a mysterious black box. The box was seamless and weightless, it was a little bit bigger than a shoe box. They couldn't find a way to open it, to see inside.

This site was discovered by Dr. Lincoln La Paz, a meteor expert who was also a nuclear scientist. He had been brought in to determine the speed and trajectory at the time of impact, of the unknown object that had crashed. La Paz thought it was an unmanned interplanetary probe.

In 2002 an archaeological dig unearthed a V shaped gouge and a 500 foot long scar in the terrain. This was in the same area as the debris field, it's thought that this was caused by the craft The archaeologists called it a superficial anomaly.

Weather Balloon.
After Marcel got on the plane with his box of debris from the crash, a car pulled up alongside the plane. Some packages wrapped in brown paper were handed over and loaded onto the plane, one of these packages was a triangle shape.

When Marcel arrived at General Ramey's office, Ramey took him into another room to look at a map of where the crash had happened. When they came back into Ramey's office, Marcel's box of debris was gone and the weather balloon was there in its place.

Marcel was not allowed to talk to the news reporters or the photographer, then he was kept in seclusion for 24 hours after this, so he couldn't discuss it with anyone before he was allowed to return to Roswell.
In the photo with General Ramey and Colonel Dubose, you can see what the triangle shape was. If you look on the floor next to the weather balloon/radar target, you can see the brown paper it was wrapped in.

Photo

The first press release saying they had a flying disc was to divert attention away from the other sites where the bodies were. Everyone knew something had crashed on the Foster ranch and there had been reports of flying discs in the area, but the news spread fast and the phones started ringing with everyone wanting to know more about it. They came up with the story that it was a weather balloon, to stop the world from finding out what they really had.
Colonel Dubose said one of the reasons they substituted the debris with the weather balloon, was to get the press off General Ramey's back, and the weather balloon couldn't have come from Fort Worth because they didn't launch them there.

Metal.
I'm not really interested in the metal but I know some of you are. All I can tell you is that there was a consensus among the scientists who tested it, that it was not from this planet. Some of it could be easily ripped and changed, other pieces were very thin but strong and flexible, it couldn't be dented. Some of it was flimsy but really tough and some was almost like foil but strong. The military couldn't identify it and the analysts were puzzled by it, it was unknown to them.

There is more information in the book about the metal, you can read it at Amazon. At the link, scroll down to Appendix 4.

Threats.
Those guarding the hanger where everything was stored and at other locations, had orders to shoot to kill, if you see anything that's not human, shoot it. It has been claimed that one airman was shot because he didn't stop when he was ordered to, he had taken a short cut and was running towards his aircraft because he was late. One sergeant who was guarding the hanger looked inside although he had been ordered not to, he saw the wreckage and the bodies.

All of the ranchers in the area had their homes searched by the military who were looking for any pieces of debris the ranchers might have taken from the site in the days before Brazel reported it. The floorboards were ripped up, everything was pulled apart and even the cattle sheds were ransacked. Most of the ranchers had been to see the crash site and they knew it wasn't a balloon. They had picked up balloons often enough because they are hazardous to the animals, the sheep wouldn't go through the debris field and no one had ever come looking for lost balloons before.

Everyone who was involved in this were threatened, if you talk about this you will be killed, your family will be killed. Children came home so scared that they never even told their own parents what had happened to them that day. One of them did take his mother to the site where they had seen bodies but this was years later when he was an adult and he knew his mother was about to die. It has been claimed that it was the military guys who had scared the children so much that they never talked about it.

A 12 yr old girl who saw the memory metal at the fire station was visited at her home, her mother was removed from the room while the girl was threatened. "You did not see anything, you got that? If you say anything, not only will you be killed, but the rest of your family will be killed too. There's a big desert out there no one will ever find you." While pounding his Billy club into the palm of his hand.

Military people were threatened, if you talk you will go to prison for a long time or you will be killed. Stay away from the big hanger or you take the risk of being shot. Lieutenant Haut was receiving threatening phone calls for 30 years warning him not to talk about it. In the 1990s he was receiving letters telling him "Lieutenants should know to keep their mouths shut."

The owner of the local radio station was told he would lose his broadcasting license if he aired the interview he recorded with Brazel telling his story about the wreckage and the little bodies. He handed over the tape and helped with the cover up.

The radio broadcaster who first interviewed Brazel was told to shut up about the crash. A day or two later he was taken to a remote shack, there was a strange looking man in the car. Brazel came into the shack and asked him not to say anything about what he had told him or their lives would never be the same. The broadcaster agreed, and when he came out of the shack, the strange looking man had gone. Not long after this happened, he was physically removed and taken to a Texas hospital. He was there for a year or more and he never came back to Roswell.

Brazel changed his story after he had been told what to say by the military, who held on to him for a few days, he was denied access to a phone and had an Army physical. His sons were not allowed to go to the ranch to look after the animals. One of his sons mysteriously disappeared and was never seen again, and his grandson was shot dead along with another man while on a hunting trip.

There are claims of people who died in strange circumstances, including a secretary from the hospital who had seen the alien bodies. Some years later she was found in a motel room with a plastic bag over her head. She had scratches and bruises on her arms and the room had been locked from the outside, they said "she committed suicide."

Aliens.
A nurse has claimed that she made the call asking Glenn Dennis, the young undertaker for child sized caskets. Another nurse who told her story to Glenn and then disappeared wouldn't talk, claiming she was in Scotland at the time, but other witnesses have said she was there.

There was an attempted autopsy at Roswell but the smell was too overpowering so they had to stop. An autopsy was done after the bodies were flown to Fort Worth Army Airfield a day later, where one of the officers waiting to greet the plane with the bodies was a mortician.

A medical source said the aliens had no hair but were covered in a slight fuzz and had slight webbing between the fingers. A large head, large eyes, small nose and mouth but no teeth and no ear lobes. Thin neck, arms and hands, the skin was scaly like a reptilian and stretchable like elastic. Under a microscope the skin appeared to be mesh like, like an iguana or a chameleon. They had no reproductive system and no digestive system, no intestinal or alimentary canal or rectal area. They did have a colourless fluid prevalent throughout its body.

There are a few stories/rumours about what happened to the surviving alien. These are rumours that were going around the base.
1. The alien died from its injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
2. The alien escaped from the base and was shot by one of the MPs on the gate.
3. The alien was accidently killed in an experiment.
4. The alien died in 1952.
I would love to know what really happened to this alien.

Only a few people knew the full story about what happened in Roswell in 1947.

Brazel said "it was like nothing he had ever seen before and it wasn't any weather balloon." The army admitted to him that it wasn't anything made by us, he also said "they're not green."

Colonel Magruder claims to have seen the alien alive in 1948. He said "it came from another planet."

Captain Henderson, the pilot who flew one group of aliens to Wright Field said the aliens reminded him of Casper the ghost.

Marcel said "It was not an aircraft of any kind, that I'm sure of. We didn't know what it was, it was nothing made on this earth." He also said " I haven't told everything, there is a hell of a lot I haven't said, I can't for the sake of my country."

Colonel Blanchard said "the stuff I saw, I've never seen any place else in my life. It was the damnedest thing I ever saw." He told his wife a flying saucer had crashed, he told her about the little bodies "They're human but they're not and the strange writing looks German but it isn't."

General Ramey said "it was the biggest lie I ever had to tell, it was out of this world." He told his wife before he died that it was a spaceship not a weather balloon.

I know you guys want proof, photos, bodies and an alien craft in your garden but all I have is some words from a book. I don't know how much of this you've heard before, there are some things here and a lot more in the book that I didn't know. This is what the witnesses have said, and I do believe most of them, I know some of you don't and that's OK. It's not my place to tell you what to believe, that's for you to decide.

So what was Marcel actually photographed with in the famous picture? The real debris from the actual crash site?

kevinrandle.blogspot.co.uk...

Stan Friedman got Marcel to sit down in front of the cameras for a documentary and Marcel, in that documentary, says the same thing. If he’s in the picture, it’s the real debris. If it is anyone else, then it is not.
That part about switching the real debris for the weather balloon doesn't make any sense to me if they are going to go ahead and photograph him with the real debris.

The idea to 'divert the attention' using another place as a crash site sounds a plausible method used for disinfo, a lot of stories regarding bases use this method. Good write.

Thanks for a concise write up LEL. We do have to question why so many witnesses come forward and tell their stories and why the military have changed their story on a number of occasions themselves. Something strange happened over summer '47 and the military wanted it kept secret.

Does the book give the motivations behind Jesse Marcel going public?

Marcel said " I haven't told everything" so I'm not really impressed by him. The photo I linked is a weather balloon not the debris from the crash. I don't have an answer as to why Marcel said what he did but David Rudiak might, see his comment at 11:43am in the link you posted. Was Marcel talking about the public photos or the military ones?

ETA. switching a mogul balloon for a weather balloon doesn't make any sense to me, maybe I'm missing something.

It seems the military were last to hear about what Brazel found but, once they got their act together nobody could get near the place.

Hi Mirageman, I got there in the end.
Did you know it was announced in the 1990s that everyone could talk about Roswell? I get the feeling that those keeping the secret had other ideas, some people are still afraid to talk.

I don't know why the military keep changing their story, it doesn't help their case. Their own report has the evidence they lied about the mogul balloon, but I didn't get that from the book.

I don't think the book said why Marcel went public, most things I've seen suggest he wanted to know the truth. I'm not buying that because he already knew what happened, I think he just wanted to let the world know he wasn't so stupid that he couldn't identify a balloon.

I didn't know that they basically "lifted the lid" on people speaking about Roswell back in the 1990s. A similar policy seemed to be adopted with the witnesses at Bentwaters who saw a UFO in Rendlesham Forest over here in 1980. The result is a confusing mix of contradictory statements. Perhaps there's an answer right there.

The 1990s were actually a time when UFO/alien conspiracies almost became mainstream as the X-Files hit the world's TV screens. The old Soviet bloc had collapsed, the Stealth Fighter suddenly appeared, mobile phone technology and the internet started to filter out to society as well. Now maybe the truth was becoming more difficult to conceal so various "false stories" were also put out there. This then makes the tale seem ridiculous to the anyone casual stumbling across the Roswell story as nothing quite makes sense. What is being really concealed I am still uncertain of.

However it's so long since I've really looked at the Roswell case (probably the 1990s) in much detail.

So I've lined up a list of things to look at when I get the time :

Witness to Roswell (book reference in this post)

Roswell (the TV Movie)

The official USAF reports

Forgot to say about Marcel.

I don't understand why he came forward in the late 1970s. If he didn't want to look foolish in 1947 why bring it all up again 30 years later when it was all forgotten about. Why didn't he keep a piece of the "memory metal" as evidence and hide it away somewhere? I am thinking that maybe he was more than a simple whistleblower and there was a deeper reason for him speaking out.

Maybe somebody else has more information on Marcel?

I think they must have announced it was OK to talk about Roswell very quietly, because Tom & co had to tell the witnesses about it when they tracked them down. I don't know this, but I wonder if that's why Haut started getting warning letters in the 1990s.

There's definitely a lot of confusion about this case, everything I read or watch about Roswell has a slightly different story. The internet is the reason I don't believe they can pass this off as a myth, there's just too much information out there.

I think Marcel waited until after he retired and got ill before he talked, he didn't have to worry about losing his job and pension by then. If I find that I'm wrong I'll come back and correct myself. I'm never sure about the military guys, are they telling the truth or are they getting paid to say these things?

Thanks for posting the movie and the links, if the 1997 The Roswell Report (Case Closed) link is the official story, that's where I think they said which balloon it was, then printed the records that show that balloon was never launched. I didn't get this from the book, I can't remember where I got it from.

Well, now that it's been determined that people can pretty much freely talk all they want about Roswell without getting killed or other bad things happening to them, isn't it funny how the information just dried up, rather than becoming a flood? What has come to light in the years since 1997?

A whole lot of nothing. Nobody has come forward with anything definitively corroborative. No bits of amazing metal. No photos or paperwork. The evidence, which was never all that great to begin with, just sort of petered out.

I have to think that aliens from another planet or visitors from the future is one of those things that gets BIGGER as the years go by, as more people deal with it and more studies are done and more paperwork is generated. By nature it becomes harder to keep secret. The Roswell thing just keeps getting smaller and smaller, with nothing new coming to light and more of the stories trailing off to dead ends.

Marcel went public because Stanton Friedman, on his rounds on one of his UFO lectures at LSU, heard about him from a station manager while waiting to be interviewed in Louisiana. Friedman called and went to Roswell to interview Marcel. Then the story snowballed out of control.

Over 600 first and second hand witnesses seems like a lot of people have talked. If you look at Appendix 3 in the Amazon link I posted, you will see what Major Saunders wrote in several copies of the book "The Truth about the UFO Crash at Roswell." He wrote "This is the truth and I still haven't told anybody anything." Read what is below his words, he knew that was the truth because he was the one who covered the paper trail and made sure there was nothing to find.

We can only hope that some memory metal will turn up one day, but I won't be holding my breath on that.

I am not saying that I know what crashed in Roswell in 47 but I am totally sure that TPTB are still lying.

Blow from en.wikipedia.org...

On February 19, 1965, General Blanchard became Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, with promotion to four-star rank.

This is the guy that ordered the original press statement say that the Army Air Force had captured a flying disc.

He was the commanding officer at the 509th at that time. This was the most elite squadron in the world the only one with nuclear weapons.

This is the man that they would have you believe could not tell the difference between tin foil, balsa wood, neoprene and something that came from another planet.

Perhaps a white rubber room would have been more in order.

This is an indisputable FACT and it tells me that something very strange was found out there that day.

I did say I wasn't really interested in the metal, but here are three names you could have found yourself at the Amazon link I posted.
C. M. Craighead, F. Fawn and L. W. Eastwood.

So this report - "Evaluation of Experimental Titanium-Base Alloys" by C.M. Craighead, F. Fawn and L.W. Eastwood, is referencing "Nitinol" as originally being discovered by having a piece of Roswell metal planted into the studies?
When in fact, William J. Buehler is credited with discovering Nitinol.
History of Nitinol:

Nitinol History

Although scientists have known about and experimented with SMA's since 1932, it wasn't until 1962 that the materials came out of the laboratory. William Beuhler, working at the US Naval labs, discovered the SMA effect in an alloy of nickel and titanium. At the time the scientific team were trying to develop a heat and corrosive resistant alloy. In the process of creating a corrosive resistant alloy, they created a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) made of 55% nickel and 45% titanium. This new material was relatively inexpensive and much safer (non-toxic) than previous SMA's.

The team named their new alloy Nitinol (pronounced night-in-all). The name represents its elemental components and place of origin. The "Ni" and "Ti" are the atomic symbols for nickel and titanium. The "NOL" stands for the Naval Ordinance Laboratory where it was discovered.

Although the mixture of nickel to titanium in nitinol is about equal, the smallest change in the ratio of the two compounds has a dramatic effect on the transition temperature of the resulting alloy. For instances, a 1% difference in the ratio varies the transition temperature from -100 to +100 C. Every company manufacturing nitinol products today must hold the ratio of the components to a precise level to insure a stable and repeatable transition temperature. The nitinol alloy we are experimenting with has a transition temperature of 70C (158F).

LINK

This was found by doing my own research and not just taking the word of a Roswell biased book. You have scientists/chemists studying shape memory alloys since the early 30's and coming across a precise mixture of nickel and titanium creating a memory type of metal. All using materials from Earth. Seems a little more plausible and realistic than the story of scientists studying exotic Roswell spacecraft debris and discovering it.

This is the man that they would have you believe could not tell the difference between tin foil, balsa wood, neoprene and something that came from another planet.
What makes you think there's a difference?

According to this document the description of the "flying disc" matches the description of a balloon perfectly:

vault.fbi.gov...

It was the guy who found the wreckage who started calling it a disc, and others just apparently followed his lead with that term even though all the descriptions matched that of a balloon, including the newspaper reports of the time...have you read those?

www.ufologie.net...

The next day he first heard about the flying disks, and he wondered if what he had found might be the remnants of one of these.

When the debris was gathered up the tinfoil, paper, tape, and sticks made a bundle about 18 or 20 inches long and about 5 inches thick. In all, he estimated, the entire lot would have weighed maybe five pounds

Considerable scotch tape and some tape with flowers printed upon it had been used in the construction.
The description in the newspaper article of the debris found seems to match a balloon perfectly, just like the description in the FBI memo, and frankly those newspaper reports are some of the most unbiased evidence we have. They were written before so many people tried to twist and distort events to sell books.

You don't seem to have read those, based on your post which seems ignorant of the well known fact everyone was referring to the balloon-like wreckage as a disc. They had discs on the brain, with lots of reports of them in the news, so that's why the rancher used the term. I doubt he would have mentioned disc if the media hadn't biased him to think of disc. I think the answer to your concern is on that quote and Blanchard was subjected to the same bias, and just used the same term Brazel did.

Also your reverence for generals as if they are some kind of deity is unwarranted. They put their pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. We had a general on national TV not too long ago supposedly an expert in missiles pointing to a jet contrail saying it was a missile launch, and you'd think he would know the difference too, right?

Yes, somebody is still keeping secrets, only a few people knew the full story at the time. Marcel was left out of the loop after the meeting on July 8th. It's a shame there's not many firsthand witnesses left to talk about it.
