Today's New York Times, page 1:

"American commanders said 38 service members had been killed and 275 wounded in the Falluja assault."


Today's New York Times, page 11:


"The American military hospital here reported that it had treated 419 American soldiers since the siege of Falluja began."


Questions for the class:


1. If 275 soldiers were wounded in Falluja and 419 are treated for wounds, how many were shot on the plane ride to Germany?


2. We're told only 275 soldiers were wounded but 419 treated for wounds; and we're told that 38 soldiers died. So how many will be buried?


3. How long have these Times reporters been embedded with with military? Bonus question: When will they get out of bed with the military?


Today's New York Times, page 1:

"The commanders estimated that 1,200 to 1,600 insurgents had been killed."

Today's New York Times, page 11:

"Nowhere to be found: the remains of the insurgents that the tanks had been sent in to destroy. ...The absence of insurgent bodies in Falluja has remained an enduring mystery."

Not much to say really... ecept the reporting in the times STINKS to high heaven.

The contradict themselves in the same edition... priceless. Obviously the readers are not expected to either read too much or remember anything they have read.

It could be that out of the 419 wounded, 275 of those were wounded in the Fallujah assault. The other 144 were probably wounded in other areas of Iraq.

The other possibility is that not everyone in the military is being honest with the number being released. They may be holding back so it doesn't look so bad.

The other and more likely explanation is that only the serious injuries were evacuated and the others returned to the genocide

It doesn't surprise me that people think the numbers are being doctored. As a matter of fact, I think it would be safe to say the whole war is being doctored.

38 lives ended and 419 lives with an uncertain future. Death and injury tolls are growing so I am really starting to wonder how the military is going to fill the gaps. Can anybody spell "DRAFT"?

As far as those embedded reporters go they can only report what they are allowed to so I agree that the mainstream U.S media is now controlled and only reports "safe" information.

Abu Saad also described American allegations of killing 1000 Mujahideen as totally false. He said only 100 Mujahideen have been martyred, and the rest are civilian residents of Fallujah.

But get used to it because this is how the whole thing operates now. They will just tell you what you want to hear,

"They (the Bush administration) have been able to con the American people with their extremely brilliant propaganda and brainwashing, with the help of the media ... they consistently lie.

Then in another story we learn,

Iraq's Red Crescent Society sent seven truckloads of food and medicine to the city, but U.S. forces stopped the convoy at the main hospital, the Reuters news agency reported. Marine commanders said there was no need for humanitarian relief inside the city because so few people remained.

but in the same story we read,

U.S. Marines searching for insurgents in the Jolan neighborhood in the northwestern side of the city on Monday did see two elderly men emerge from a pile of rock. The men, who looked too old to fight, pointed to their stomachs. They were hungry. They were given brown, plastic pouches of military rations and disappeared back into the rocks, the Marines recounted.

If U.S has control of the city, why don't they let the aid in?

The horrendous humanitarian disaster of Fallujah drags on, as the U.S. military continues to refuse the entry of an Iraqi Red Crescent (IRC) convoy of relief supplies. The Red Crescent has appealed to the UN to intervene, but no such luck, nor does the military relent.

We don't know what's really going on because they don't wan't us to know. If everything is going fine and dandy why is Iraq self destructing?

The question is, "Was the war really necessary?"
