This is such an amazingly cogent, truly metaphysically complicated and spiritually advanced post, I'm almost tempted to start worshiping the Church of KellyPrettyBear.

But instead I'll take your sage advice and change my language in the future to something along the lines of:
'the Law of Infinite Possibilities' as you suggested... I could call it the Church of LIP.

Brava, OP!

I just wanted people to think about how an idea grows and evolves
over the centuries, until what was once an innocent and useful
word becomes something truly horrible.

People use the word God as a weapon.. even if they say "God loves
you, so I love you", that has in implicit baggage that it is their
concept of God which is on the table.. and generally you'll
get a big earful about 'their God'.

It's never just the love... or the kindness.. or the compassion..

There's always some monstrous word with baggage that people
fight and die for..

That's the point of the post.

You are saying to boycott a word because the word is bad. Which isnt true. Words are neutral tools mankind can use them for evil or good.

I didnt put you down, I recognized you lowered yourself into a very petty ideal and made many mistakes articulating it.

If I went around saying something like "boycott the word Gay it brings bad things" I would deserve the ton of bricks that would come down on my head.

Cant you see it from that view?
Replace word God with word Gay.
Still sound like great idea?

You've some interesting questions.

Personally, as a matter of opinion, methinks the god and gods thing if that was just passed over and edited out of the entire evolutionary line, humanity would have been much better off.

Without god or gods to seek approval from or cast blame on, people would have no choice but to accept responsibility and be held accountable for their own actions or inactions.

Additionally, the only approval ever going to happen will be coming from your peers, as is likewise for disappointment.

No imaginary stuff to it. It'd be a WYSIWYG world.

I see that you understand.

Can I say that I love you, without you thinking that I've
got some horrible demonic plan behind that word?

Could I possibly be genuine? Could I just mean what I say,
no more no less, no mind games, no trying to persuade
you into something I find of value?
Would you believe me? Just asking.

S/he's absolutely straight on that the word for an almighty has caused more harm to the human race than any other possible idea or word that represents it.

I honestly can't believe you're objecting to the OP, unless you're just doing it for the sake of being contrary.

As a matter of fact, your strong emotional response is proving the point.

Ah --- possible logic error there.

I could go my entire life without saying the word God, and
I could do just fine..

I could not go my entire life without saying gay.. there
are gay people in the world.. some of whom like to
identify with that word.

Some would call that a limited strawman attack
combined with an appeal to incredulousness..
but that sounds all uppity.. I'll just say apples
vs oranges, friend.

But that aside,

I've said "in all succeeding posts" the reason for the
post....

Now you may disagree with my premise that words
can be very toxic and that people flip out over
certain words and use them as an excuse to
harm others..

But I don't see the reason for all your passion about
such a mild thought experiment?

?????

So what you're saying is... stop believing in god as it's nothing but trouble, and just be nice.

I agree.

Proving which point?
That you get to dictate others choice of terminology?

That you think you can guilt trip me into it?

Dont think so. This ship is as cold as steel.

I have no guilt for pointing out your intolerance or the OP.

Anyone who thinks any word should be boycotted might as well get the book burning started.

Book burning will be a requirement to "purge" the word. What if some kid found the book in 200yrs and read the evil secret 3 letters?

Do you use the word God as a weapon?
People in this world are fighting and dying for greed and ignorance- not the word God.
If your concept of God is truely horrible then maybe you should change your ideas about God.
If you do not like hearing/getting an earful of other people's beliefs about God loving you can remove yourself in most cases from these people (boycott) or learn to tolerate their different ideas of God (which may not be yours).

Night Star
Even if the word God never existed, human beings would just find another word like the higher power or the creator or whatever. I think way back when mankind began, he would see the stars and moon and and all of life and knew instictively that there was something...else, something greater than himself. They still do.

Of course my sister!

Now if people went around and said "the Goddess" I'd have no
problem with that at all.. Historically "the Goddess" was killed
by the hierarchical male God, who came later..

The Goddess.. the Great Mother... she births everyone..
whether good or evil... the Great Mother birthed all
the male Gods too..

Now.. do I believe that? That's not the point.

The point is, that I do not recommend that we give up the word
"Goddess"; very few people have made that word toxic.

Very few people have killed in HER NAME.

I'm fine with Goddess.

Now, look at how much harm has been done
with GOD.

;-)

He "put down" the Pharisees

in starkly fierce terms.

He "put down" all who refused to believe He was sent from The Father . . . by declaring their end state of separation from The Father . . .

Folks can play loose and irrational with the historical evidence, if they dare.

Sooner or later, said chickens WILL come home to roost.

Im a vocabulary addict and the word God allows me to teach ancient mythology with ease. Without this word I would be hard pressed to find a better term.

I heard everyones suggestions, Ill use those too but I need my big Hitter to explain these topics to a general audience in a reasonable time frame.

I can actually use the word in ways most couldnt imagne. So please, just let me use my silly word.

It gives me pleasure that you enjoyed my little post. But ixnay
on the omplimentay.. you know what happens to people who
love strangers..

The ACTUAL reality is not the problem; it's the crapped up word
which HIDES the reality.. which puts it into a prison constructed
by men over the centuries --- that's the problem.

I myself love the One.. but don't obsess about that label... that
would turn it toxic.

The One is like my beloved uncle --- if I really love my uncle,
I'll give hugs to his creepy friends too...

You need to tread carefully here because this topic is designed to troll you specifically. Keep that in mind.

On a side note, its been over a week and you still havent read my Unicorn or Neptune threads. You have serious guts usually though, go rip em up I know you wanna.

That word has 200,000 years of suffering, insanity and death baked into it.

Your critical mistake is this statement here and reveals true intentions.

The word "God" is at best 800 to 1000 years old in this current format.

200,000 yrs huh? Isnt that how old science assumes human beings are?

We hadnt even developed writing or even the art of painting a cave wall.....

Cave paintings are paintings found on cave walls and ceilings, and especially refer to those of prehistoric origin. The earliest such art in Europe dates back to the Aurignacian period, approximately 40,000 years ago, and is found in the El Castillo cave in Cantabria, Spain.

So you are saying the relatively new word, God, has caused death since 160,000 yrs prior to developing cave painting techniques??

This totally proves you havent a clue, and the entire point of the thread is about pushing religious intolerance.

You are apparently trying to disguise it though, for obvious reasons.

Oh well, you are entitled to believe complete fiction, suit yourself.

You know what? You got me. You win.

ARRRGGGGGGG Thud! You got me!

(yah, that was a quote from Kill Bill Volume 2).

I still love you though. Love your passion.

Maybe there's hope after all. LOL. The devil is very anti freedom.

Cheers for your support of freedom.

I have a full plate. Not getting to a lot of things I'd sort of aimed to.

Not sure when I will.

Folks who note I'm not--if you'll U2U me the URL's I'll try and at least leave them in my inbox until I can look at them at least somewhat.

I know I was reading a pdf for someone who's agreed to read THE CASE FOR THE REAL JESUS and then I had to reboot and the pdf tab went away and I haven't gotten to tracking it down again. Wheee. Sigh.

No offense intended. Just a lot on my plate.

And other posting is more needfully recreational in some respects.

Actually, I think that Kelly is . . . pontificating . . . out of years of . . . existential wandering and angst.

Now has a long sequence of step by step fantasies and rationalizations the convince Kelly that he/she has a nice tidy out for their aversion to God.

It won't wash in the final analysis but it affords easier sleep at night, probably.

Folks have been declaring "God is dead" for a long time in a diversity of ways.

This is just a variation on that theme.

A bit more convoluted, tedious and hollow but of the same genre.
imho.
