Is Harry Reid speaking the truth? Is EVERYONE really willing to pay more taxes?
I know I'm not willing to. Our taxes have been raised to the point that we're considering moving.

The crazy thing (to me,at least) is that I think Reid actually believes he's doing us all a favor by taxing us and that Americans can't wait to have him and Obama raise their taxes again...and again...and again...

I think the man must be deranged.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid says that "Everybody" is "willing to pay more" taxes. He said so in an interview with a Nevada Public Radio host.

“The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress,” Reid told the radio host, according to Roll Call. “Everybody else, including the rich people, are willing to pay more. They want to pay more.”

I'm willing to smack him in the teeth.
I would be willing to pay for it too, so if that's what he means....then sure.

US tax rates are among the lowest among advanced (OECD) countries. In my current country for example people pay 21% income tax , 33% social security (employer pays on the income, so a total of 133% of my salary is the cost for my monthly employment for the company) , 3% unemployment insurance tax, 2% pension fund, 20% sales tax and these are among the lowest in EU.

At least in my opinion certain taxes, especially consuming ones (sales tax) should be raised significantly. The problem in US is overconsuming largely due to the consumer prices (food, clothes, tech, gas etc) already being extremely low compared to salaries.

Harry Reid doesn't speak for me. In point of fact, I'm pretty sure that he speaks for a very small group of people....most likely the sycophants and political lackeys that surround him.

Certainly, those who are the wealthiest pay accounting firms a lot of money yearly to make sure that they pay as little tax as possible. Many people are already taxed to the point where they question if it is worth working at all. NOBODY wants to give more money to Uncle Sugar. What color is the sky in his world?

More taxes will not fix what ails this country. Harry's another "tax-and-spend" moron who has completely lost touch with reality. You don't give a crackhead more money to spend on crack, you don't give a gambling addict a larger line of credit in the casino, and you certainly don't give more money to imbeciles who have proven to be incompetent with it in the first place.

You should not be so surprised, since when we the people has been allowed voice what we really, really want in this nation, for years we have been told, what we want, what we should buy and what we should let the political rats in congress ram up our behinds

So, no, no surprises.

Harry Reid speaks for the majority who do not pay tax or pay very little. Once you hit middle class you get raped with taxation. All credits and benefits from being poor and getting government handouts ceases and you get to grind out a life of barely surviving. This is the new prosperity. Enjoy!

No. The problem in the US is a government who spends $400.00 on a hammer, $1 billion dollars on a website that doesn't work and who employs thousands of employees on the citizens dime who are actively committing crimes against it's own people, not too mention our domestic military force, the DHS. It shouldn't be in existence in the first place let alone buying military grade weapons, ammo and armour with billions of dollars of taxpayers money.

The problem in the US is the government is getting too much of our money in the first place. It should not under any circumstance be able to afford to do any of the above. Then again, I guess we can't really afford it anyway as evidenced by the 17 trillion dollar national debt.

Good God man, were you even serious?

The problem with you and every other no tax person, is that you blame all of this on the feds, Federal Income Tax, Social Security & MediCARE (if you live to 65, you will recoup a portion of this), no idea what your Corporate tax share is, and I do taxes for a living, and a portion of the Gas tax, is all you can blame on the feds. The rest is all laid at the feet of your local, county, and state level politicians, yay go states rights. Local politicians are some of lowest scum bags on the face of the earth.

What planet do you live on? There is no doubt that on some level, state corruption is prevalent in America but if you truly believe it is anywhere near the extent of federal government, your delusional. The federal government for decades has used the interstate commerce clause to regulate, tax and criminalize things that by any rational standard is almost comical. It extorts state governments every day of the year by forcing them to comply to whatever draconian standard it decides is appropriate or cuts off funding to the citizens of the state on federal assistance.

and I do taxes for a living

Who exactly do you do taxes for? The IRS? What exactly is your justification for the government having enough money to fund and purchase 1.8 billion hollow point bullets for a domestic military force (DHS) you think they can afford this yet somehow need more taxes? For what? 1.2 million domestic military tanks?

Thats just the tip of the iceberg pal, I could go on all night about money they spend that they don't need by any rational definition. All.... Night...... 8.1 billion dollars for TSA who have caught how many terrorists? How much was the new NSA center that cost 2 billion dollars? What are they doing there besides breaking the law? We fund that and they need..... More?

The rest is all laid at the feet of your local, county, and state level politicians, yay go states rights. Local politicians are some of lowest scum bags on the face of the earth.

But that's what you don't get. Without federal interference, the constituents of local and state politicians could possibly get it right. It's not automatic and would take work but the federal government would never let that happen in it's current form. Look at how it locked down all states during the shutdown on "federal land" and held them hostage. They do this on a monthly basis with any federal law they wan't to get them into check with and it's always something else they use to force compliance.

Read something........

I agree with your sentiments.....the man is deranged.

Has he read a history book? What he fails to realize is that there will come a time once again where the people won't have any more to give. It's not even about the people being fed up,it is about them having nothing more to give plain and simple

History will repeat itself.

Exactly, the idea of taking anything else from the average American citizen at this point is ludacris when we have multi billion dollar companies paying nothing. To even suggest the American government needs more from it's citizens when it spends so recklessly, so carelessly is offensive to anyone with even a shred of common sense or who passed 3rd grade math.

Taxes are lower now than they've been since before Reagan ( you know. the conservatives Messiah ). but I'm sure this is a liberal, left winged bias site ( since it goes against what all of you economic, political professors are saying)

If they want to pay more, nothing is stopping them from writing checks and sending them in. I'm sure the government would appreciate that.

Have you factored in the economy at all in that estimation? Did you calculate into the equation that the 2008 recession was the third largest in American history? Did you take into account what the federal reserve is doing now as far as fiat currency printing, per year, not backed by any standard other than American government mandate?

You didn't? Back to the drawing board!

What you said is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on ATS when somebody was actually trying to be serious. If you are going to state that taxes are lower now than the time of the Reagan administration, please, link some proof or kindly, hush it up, cause your talking out of your back side, thx.
