The NFL is the "opiate" of the masses.

Just google the above phrase, and you see many postings on the internet. Some may scoff at the notion, but I think most would agree.

As a current semi-pro football player myself, I eat, sleep and live football right now. NFL to me is like homework and preparation. Even I however see that the the "Illuminati" or "TPTB" or whatever you wish to call the elitists that control our globe, have turned this game into the new gladiatorial games. Think about it; the ever increasing, blatant "Illuminati" half-time shows? The near worship of teams and players? The drama of a soap opera in the NFL's new "reality show?"

TPTB have what they call "useful idiots." As a jock, I know from first hand that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to run with a ball, catch, or even throw it. Heck I'd be surprised if everyone on my team could read. Just like the Pop stars, the new-age gladiators serve a purpose. The money, notoriety, and glory for winning "the Big Game" sway people to put these men on a pedestal. They get nearly the same attention that the Pop stars get, and now with Jay Z's Agency... you get where I'm going?

Remember in the movie "Gladiator" when the two Senators talk about The Games and how it was a distraction? A tool to keep the masses occupied and entertained whilst the Emperor took more and more freedoms away? This is what the NFL has become. A distraction away from important matters in the community and the country at large.

Ever wonder why NFL games are generally on a Sunday? I think it started out innocently enough, but since TPTB know our country is mostly Christian and attend church, it has become a way to distract the men of God from Him, and unto a semi-violent game that borders on worship to some.

Also, more and more games over the years have come up. Extending seasons so they're longer, adding games to more days of the week, it's a constant event for half of the year! I find myself checking scores, reading reports and articles instead of reading my Bible.

Lastly, let's return to the "illuminati" symbolism. It seems that the last 5 or 6 years have been one occult super bowl halftime after another. Heck, Madonna's looked almost like a ritual. Nobody can deny these "Illuminati" icons waving around hand signs and all-seeing eyes showing up everywhere. It's spooky. Almost like a signature.

Let's here your thoughts on this folks. Sorry I didn't post up any links or anything, but most of this stuff is easily google-able, and this is more my own thoughts on the matter, as a former journalist and current football junkie.

No offense but wouldn't the current opiate of the masses actually be opiates?
Huff Post

The director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), R. Gil Kerlikowske, a former police and justice official, has called the illegal use of prescription drugs, especially narcotic medications in pill form, the nation's "fastest-growing drug problem." What once dominated the world of overdoses in the U.S., namely heroin, has been eclipsed by the prescription painkillers (see below). These drugs are termed opioid analgesics, referring to substances produced from the opium poppy or manufactured synthetically with the same pain killing effects on the human brain (analgesic means lack of pain).

Now as a semi-pro player should you not be supporting this "opiate"? Don't you dream of being one of the major dealers of this "drug" of choice for most Americans?

Oh and Go Seahawks.

Never watched football, baseball, soccer or any other sport for that matter, too boring. Just never interested me. I watch hockey every now and then but I really have no interest in that sport either.

Ah, touche. drugs are the drug of the nation I guess. I think they have a few things to keep us stupified: the music industry, pro sports, CIA's drug business, and the poop TV shows that are flooding the channels. And as a player, I'm a 30 year-old QB who never played in HS. I'll never be a dealer anyway, even if I think I rock. And yes, 'Hawks rule. Russell Wilson is da bomb.

About the only thing going for hockey in my mind is watching big guys try to throw punches on ice. Happy Gilmore comes to mind.

There is a definite obsession with sports among the masses, and it happens to be ever so convenient that there is some popular sport being played at every moment of the year.

It can be a very good distraction from more important issues, imho.

Exactly what I was getting at sir. And even though I used pro football as the example, it really does include ALL entertainments. ALL of the major pro sports, ALL of the Big 5 poop machines that control the news, advertisements, and shows.

One could also argue that since sports, music, drugs and even story-telling have been around since the dawn of civilization then perhaps it is politics that is the real problem. Everything that you have described as being a distraction has also fueled us as a society, as a species, it those simple things that can and ultimately will unite us.

Politics, business, religion, these are the real dividers in our nation.

I would also like to point out that those big poop machines, as you call them, are among the few things we can and should be proud of. We are the best story tellers on the planet, the supreme liars from which all other liars learn their craft. Oh sure British dramas are clever and Japanese Anime is the bee's knees. But for pure profitability there is no greater producer of awesomeness then America.

Go Hollywood!

The rest of the world also have a game called football to distract us. It's played and showed on TV almost every day of the week in Europe.

The world governing body FIFA is arguably one of the most corrupt organisations that still exists on the planet. By giving every member state one vote on any major decisions it can manipulate votes by "influencing" minor states with tiny populations. The USA, China and India have as much influence as the smallest members like San Marino or Andorra which have populations smaller than most US towns.

There is a website dedicated to the ongoing issues.

www.playthegame.org...

So you may well be on to something.

Everything that people do in their free time while not focused on surviving (working) is their metaphorical opiate.

I like a good movie, but my main concern isn't Hollywood and it's smut. It's the blatantly retarded, unfunny crap that is nearly every show. That and the fact that true journalism is pretty much dead.

I guess that makes sense, but that statement could be used to broadly. Things that are uplifting, meaningful, and even helpful to others could fall in that category. Also to some, working IS their opiate, as they do or care about little else. Just sayin'.

Well working being their opiate thats ok, but working/surviving is tautologically necessary, as in surviving is necessary to survive, and the way that is achieved is through work, so they are doing their job (at surviving) by doing their job and enjoying it or not its what they must do. There is nothing wrong with the uplifting stuff being lumped in that category, I understood how wide ranged it was when I said it and I meant it. Football players and football fans are uplifted by the activity. All the fans that save up for tickets and root for their team dressed up, they love it, its exciting, its competition, its proving who is the best, most talented at something. It showcases the height of mans talent, skills, physicality, and intelligence. Entertainment, art, it is that which is not necessarily necessary to survive, though it makes surviving more enjoyable, it is a distraction from reality, but all free time activities that are not work (or volunteer work), all things people do for fun and for entertainment, sport or game, is a momentary distraction from the potentially difficult and sometimes harsh reality of the nature of life.

I think the NFL, along with all other popular sports, are certainly examples of opiates for the masses which also could be grouped together to include excessive entertainment, material possesions, superficiality, drugs and alcohol, etc. etc...

Much of it has to do with group think / mob mentality. A big problem in our world is that so many people are too afraid to be an individual and instead take the easy road and side with the herd.
What typifies this better than a bunch of sheep in the bleachers getting excited, sad, etc. all in unison?!? Thousands of people (plus millions watching the beautiful, glowing T.V. at home) singing songs in unison, getting drunk in unison, cheering at the exact same moments, getting angy at a bad call at the same moments.. etc.

These behaviors aren't bad in and of themselves, I think. Being a spectator at a big sporting event and being part of the crowd obviously causes a nice comfort which on a deep, genetic, DNA level reminds us of tribal days where it was part of our survival to be part of a herd.

However, it's obviously now gone too far. Individualism is just as important nowadays, and possibly more important, than this mob mentality but it is constantly overshadowed by group think and angry mobs of dumbasses who thrive on emotion and empty slogans as opposed to logic, reason, and evidence.

So long as basic common sense issues of morality are abided by, people should never feel afraid to act or speak in a way that goes against the herd. But unfortunately, since everything is so larger than life now with tsunami like social forces pushing and pulling each of us everyday, it's harder and harder to stay true to what you yourself believe.

I guess we can call it an opiate but I kinda' see it as a healthy distraction. I love playing football and I dig watching it but not as much. All work and no play makes Jack a raving lunatic and all that.

The low information crowd does not need an opiate to be ignorant of the world around them. I firmly believe that is their conscience decision. To blame the NFL or drugs or the internet or whatever is just an excuse. Sheep will be sheep.

BTW, I may be wrong but the NFL plays on Sunday because college football played on Saturday. The early pro league was just old college players still wanting to play. Could be wrong...

I see what you're saying. Obviously I don't think their is anything wrong with the game, or I wouldn't play. My whole point is that like anything else that started out as good in this world, it's been hijacked and corrupted. Look at all the other stuff that's been hijacked; hip-hop used to be about stuff other than drugs, guns and philandering. Television used to have family-friendly programs, instead of the next Miley Vyrus. And you're right on about the college games, btw. Like I said, it started out quite innocently.

As an aside, historically I've been a Bronco fan. That being said, I see this season ending up differently than last. Looks like Peyton doesn't have much left in his arm.
