They may not be on Obamacare, but they certainly have insurance which makes them compliant with Obamacare. What the Republicans want for some reason is to kick Congress and their staffers off of their already existing insurance (which is Obamacare compliant) and force them onto the exchanges. Just FYI, my company isn't being forced to kick us off of our company insurance and put us onto the exchanges, not sure why you believe that Congress has to do this.

From FEDWeek, the primary information resource for federal employees such as myself

Affordable Care (Obamacare) Act Reminder
With the initial Affordable Care Act health insurance enrollment period set to begin October 1, there still seems to be some confusion among federal employees and retirees regarding the relationship between that program and the FEHB. Those eligible for FEHB coverage remain eligible for it, and the Obamacare startup – assuming it survives a congressional Republican effort to stop it -- will not affect them with this limited exception: members of Congress and their personal staffs (although not other legislative branch employees) will have to leave FEHB and get their health insurance through the exchange system or through another source such as a spouse's employment. That involves only a small part of the FEHB population, although a highly visible one. Other FEHB-eligible persons are free to leave FEHB if they wish but it is not expected that many if any will do so; instead, the focus for them will remain on the regular benefits open season for FEHB that starts November 11.

Despite the lies being told about Obamacare, I don't believe it will be successful. The White House is being just as dishonest as the Republicans with their signup statistics. Instead of showing the number of enrollees (which shows that the number is far lower than Obama wants it to be otherwise he would be throwing that number in the faces of the Republicans), he keeps bragging about the number of people who signed up for the website. Keep in mind the website requires you to sign up just to view a quote about your insurance. Once could conceivably sign up, view the quote, then never go back to the site. Also keep in mind with all the glitches, someone could also conceivably sign up multiple times just trying to get into the site to VIEW a quote.

While I do currently have health insurance through work, I decided to check several different quote calculators online (so I didn't have to mess with the hassle of signing up and giving the government all my information). If I were to go onto the exchanges, I'd pay $200/mo and have a $5000 deductible. I can afford neither of these things and as I get no subsidy, the insurance would be useless for me. I am probably one of MANY healthy young people with this problem. Since young people are being calculated as the ones who are going to shoulder the cost of this, if they see things like I have, they probably won't sign up either. It is common knowledge that the Obama Administration needs something like 7 million enrollees by March, but preliminary seems to suggest that we are not on pace to achieve that goal. By all accounts, unless something drastically changes this bill WILL fail, or at the very least increase the national debt by some absurd amount. This despite the lies by both sides (meaning that Republican lies are unnecessary).

The Republicans act like there was no clear reason why Obama won two terms

Not true at all. The reason was blatently obvious on both elections.

2008: The GOP ran a complete idiot against Obama, essentially providing a "No-Contest" in the election because they knew it would be nearly impossible to see another GOP president elected immediately after Bush.

2012: After spending 4 years building a massive voter base out of nearly half of the country dependent on his policies and handouts, Obama cruise controled his way to re-election. Mitt Romney was 100% correct in stating that and, when you get right down to it, the fact that he was so quickly lambasted and apologetic over the comments was indicative of how tightly the truth is held away from the public in terms of politics and tax dollar redistribution schemes. He got re-elected because very few people will cut their nose off just to spite the own face.

Present day Obamacare: Politifact is a cute little website. I always appreciate how tightly they toe the official line as it is handed down from DC... Regardless of that, the bottom line of the ACA is that it is an extremely dumb idea and an extremely expensive program which the middle class of America cannot afford and shouldn't have to worry about. You don't deliver a nut shot like that to the middle class and expect anything other than a negative reaction.

Furthermore, at this point it is very much about destroying Obamacare at any cost, including through lies and extreme accusations. The ends will only justify the means on the day the ACA is cast down into the bowels of other stupid former American laws like segregation laws and prohibition. On the day when the cold hard pure truth was presented... Obama administration has repeatedly said this isn't a tax, Supreme Court rules law Constitutional because Obama lawyers quietly presented it to them as a tax... the truth was brutalized with John Roberts taking both the first and last kicks at it. That's the truth, right there.

Sorry the ends never justify the means. I don't care what side of the aisle PoliticiFacts lies on, lying to convince people to side with you is wrong and immoral. You are right, Obamacare is a HUGE gut shot to the middle class, but that doesn't mean that you are justified in making crap up about it. Talk about the real problems, there are plenty of them and you really do a disservice to your side of the argument when you make things up or perpetuate made up stories.

The truth is also more likely to sway people to your side anyways. When you tell someone a lie, all they need to do is fact check it to see that it isn't true. This makes people mad when they are lied to. However, if you just tell them the truth, when they fact check they can only either deny reality or switch sides. I can't believe as a moderator that you are claiming that it is ok to lie in this case to get rid of this bill. You should be upholding the standards of this website by denying ignorance, not spreading or upholding it. If I misread your post, I'm sorry, but I am truly upset about how I am understanding your post right now.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I'm saying that, as a tax payer and as the provider for my family, that the legitimate challenge of Obamacare was ruled upon by the courts based upon a much larger lie than anything we're seeing politifact touch upon here. A promise was made regarding raising taxes on Americans, a sworn statement was then made to assure the American people that the ACA wasn't a tax, then the ACA became a tax to protect its survival when that survival should never have been protected.

There's an old saying: "Fight fire with fire." Well, one side brought out a blowtorch in front of the SCOTUS and used it to screw us all so I honestly don't see much of an issue with a bunch of people flinging lit matches at the ACA in retaliation for the blowtorch.

I'm participating in this thread, as I do in most threads, as an ATS member, not as a moderator. Furthermore, I've never based my arguments against the ACA on these lies. I'm just saying that I understand the justification people feel when they take an "at all costs" approach to stop this from destroying their budgets and their lives.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

It is frustrating, isn't it...to provide facts just to see people deny them?

You gain much respect from me, I know you aren't a fan of the ACA, but facts are facts...and you are showing that you are intellectually honest even when it goes against your own ideology.

The only comment I have about your thread is the part about congressmen repeating some of the lies. When they do this, they are either that stupid that they don't know the facts...or more likely they are intentionally spreading lies because they know their constituents are that stupid to believe them.

Either way, it isn't a good reflection for those congressmen.

Am I entitled to the fact that this law leaves me with less money every 2 weeks and less choices in regards to doctors than I had before thanks to a number of them either closing shop or refusing to take any insurance now? Hell, am I even entitled to the money I work hard to earn, anymore? It sure as hell seems that plenty of Americans have drank the KoolAid and piled into the socialization of costs, corporatization of profits Frankenstein Monster that the feds have created by mish mashing fascism and socialism into a single dead body and electrifying the beast.

The Same day the Exchanges went online...My Health Insurance carrier BC/BS sent me this email..

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXX,
We are happy to tell you that you can keep your current health insurance coverage. If you like your current plan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL), does not require you to notify us in order to continue your current coverage.
If your needs have changed you may want to review our new 2014 plan options at
bcbsil.com/keepmeblue and compare them to your current plan.

You can keep your current Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) plan. If, however, your budget or needs have changed, you may want to review the new plan options available to you for 2014. The choice is entirely up to you.

So I go to the website...and it is like BC/BS version of an exchange...I enter my info...and find a plan equivalent to what they are already giving me...for literally almost 3K LESS per year. SAME PLAN.

BC/BS pro-actively dropped my rates the same day the exchange went online.

Get that? They wanted to compete with the exchanges coming online and pro-actively dropped my rates....

Those who believe that Congress is exempt have no interest in reading anything which contradicts those views, no matter how legitimate. In January, when Congress and their staffers are all on plans through the healthcare exchanges, I will be vindicated!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would I have to go through an "exchange" when I am going through the same process now to find insurance that is suitable to my needs at the likes of which I have done before this legislation took effect?

I can guarantee you that you will not be going through any exchanges and will be going through your Federal Health Benefits website to look up what you want; not the .gov site that is atrocious.

The best argument against this legislation is attacking the lie that it is about providing "health-care"; in which it doesn't. It provides an avenue towards coverage. Health care was administered and honored via a doctor's Hippocratic oath. Find me one person that was denied care (not coverage).

Well see that is what I'm talking about lies on both sides here. I was sure to stress that I am trying to be as nonpartisan as possible. I understand that the article I linked to mostly exposed Republican lies, but I am well aware that the Democrats are lying about this law too. I seriously want to know why the Obama won't release the enrollment numbers yet, but is celebrating the website sign up numbers. This comes off to me like he is hiding something, something that would make the PPACA not look as hot as they are claiming it is.

I guess you are lucky there. Currently I have insurance through my work, but I'm already hearing rumors that the price of it will be increasing next year. Of course these are rumors and I haven't heard anything official yet, but we'll see. I really can't afford a price increase and if they hit me with one, I'm going to seriously consider dropping it. They do pay my deductible though so that may make me stay. If they drop that perk, I'll definitely drop them.

And I agree, there is plenty of legitimate issues to debate and discuss with the PPACA without the repetitive lies that are spread about it.

That's how I feel about Obama in general. There's a lot of real issues to discuss about his policies, but there's too many racists that make up fake problems about him (you know, him being a muslim, Al Qaeda terrorist from Kenya) that cloud real discussion. If the real issues were discussed, it would indite Republicans as well. Politics is like religion, in that people will follow the doctrine of their ideological leaders as gospel and view the world whole heartedly through a narrow set of blinders.

Did Obama support Muslim terrorists in Libya, Egypt and Syria?

Yes or no?

The government in general support Wahabist terrorists, who skew Islam into a violent political ideology that's there to promote Saudi dominance of the middle east. Much of the muslim world recognizes wahabism, the core ideology of Al Qaeda. as apostate. Iran ourtight bans it even. This isn't Obama's doing, but rather the international intelligence community, because Wahabism is an 18th century invention of British intelligence to promote their agenda (which has always been divide and conquer) and keeping the house of Saud in reign over Arabia. Al Qaeda is an outright fabrication of the CIA (who has a history of being intimately linked with British intelligence) too, meant to stir up trouble in the middle east to create excuses for invading countries there. George Bush, who is friends with the Bin Laden family even let them fly out of the US when all the airports were shut down after the WTC attacks, and he is no more a Muslim than Obama. Carter and Reagan, who headed administrations that backed the Muhajadeen (the precursor of Al Qaeda and the Taliban) in the 70's when bin Laden was its leader , weren't Muslims either. To associate their terrorism with Islam is missing the point, because most of the victims in Libya, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, from these "Muslim terrotists", were, in fact, Muslims. Don't believe the media lies about Islam. They're only making you hate people you've never met and seek to make you into a pawn in the globalist agenda. If the truth were known, the NWO hates Muslims for the exact same reason they secretly hate Christians (In fact the "Muslim" terrorists have killed Christians, as well as Muslims), and this is because Islam, like Christiandom, values community, tradition, social stability, and family over materialism, greed, lust, and everything the global corporate agenda stands for. They wish to bring the same death and suffering on the Christian world that they are currently waging against the Muslim world, and by hating who you are told to ignorantly hate will only lead to that same spite coming back to haunt you. What goes around comes around and sometimes from who you don't even expect.

Obama, like Bush, is a Masonic, Luciferian, fallen angel worshiping shill who will sacrifice human lives to attain his ascended godhood, He is neither Christian nor Muslim. The same goes for the Wahabist monarchs in Saudi Arabia who control Al Qaeda (well, with the help of MI6, Mossad, and the CIA. anyway)

Completely agree man, the whole forced aspect chaps my glorious ass.

I would personally like every American to have health insurance, but I don't think forcing people and bankrupting quite a few is the answer.
