I know people who will be wetting themselves over the latest and greatest gadgets and will be dribbling wreckes until they get their hands on them.
The only Apple product I have is a company issued iPhone, which serves well enough for phone calls, texts and email. I don't use it for anything else!
If I want to surf the net and look at anything I'll do so at my desk or when at home on my desktop system, not squint at small text and images on a smartphone. Likewise, apart from net surfing I wouldn't have any other use for a tablet device and I certainly don't feel the need to be constantly "connected"! In fact, I am off work this week and have been going out most days without the phone. If anybody wants me they can call and leave a message or email / text message me and I'll answer when I get home again.

It's this whole PR and marketing BS that gets me. One of my work colleagues must have spent £Thousands on new TV's over the years, just to get the latest Hi-Res and bells and whistles..... until the next fad comes out 6 months after he bought it and he feels he needs to upgrade.

This whole idea that we all need to live in a connected world, get from A to B as fast as possible and never be out of touch for a moment is nothing more than marketing. I remember the good old days when there were no mobile phones, and if people wanted you they'd call and leave a message. The world still turned, business boomed and everyone was (relatively) happy, and more of their hard earned cash stayed firmly in their own accounts, buying things that were actually useful.

Maybe I'm just a dinosaur!

I have to admit that i felt bad not having an iPhone, lol, good marketing I guess, so now I have one, phew! Never felt that pressure before..

It came with a case but have since thrown it away. I do like the look and design of the exterior, nice lines, beautiful really, lol, you can't cover that craftsmanship,,,

I only use it for phone and e reader, great for extended time on the toilet!

Also have the mini iPad, refused to buy e reader till I got the iPad, turn it sideways and books pages flip like real book, just beautiful, close to a thousand books on it already, just amazing, lol, best reader ever

Anyway, macs a waste, any laptop will do really

Back to your scheduled program,,,,

Apple is a CULT. Overall people who buy apple products have got this absurd idea's when buying apple products they are helping nature, fight the opressed, F*** mainstream, < insert hipster motivation here >
People who buy it are brainwashed. Like for example those people think that apple products are made in candy cotton land, sprinkled with love from little tiny elves.

I'l tell you this, they are indeed little, but it ain't no elves. Small Chinese children who get cancer or worse. Now before I get this comment, yes every major company lets the dirty work do in asia, but they don't go about pretending it was made with love.
People think that for some absurd reason those products are cleaner for the environment.
Just like they say, I never get viruses lol. Apple comes out far worse when dealing with tracking your personal info then say windows.

Now, for my work I bought a macbook pro ( I really hate to having to call it that instead of a damn laptop ).
Honestly, worst 3K ever. the screen is amazing, all the other stuff is worthless. i'm on the latest software pack and it feels like windows 95.

When i'm on it, I use windows in bootcamp lol.

You never see people camping outside in snowy, freezing weather waiting for the new Samsung or LG product...Steve Jobs sold an IMAGE. At first, yes, their products were revolutionary, but then others in the world IMPROVED upon the original ideas...my girlfriend has an iphone 5, iMac, iPad, iPod touches...it always slays me when her WiFi router drops her or lags on her 5 when I am receiving no trouble at all on my s3 galaxy sitting next to her.

Let me know when tablets are just as good under the hood as my desktop, if not better, and then I might be impressed enough to pay the same price for it. Til then, jesus, my NETBOOK has more horsepower in it for half the cost.

Edit: Not knocking those who own them, but it's just such a freakin' rip-off for what it is.

Forget for a second about Apple stuff, what I'm concerned about is where all this tablet stuff is going, like yes I have the mini iPad, on it now, lol, great for farting around on the net, checking this that and the other thing out. Tablets are not bulky like a laptop, simplifys things, but with my laptop I've downloaded and saved to external harddrive at least a 1TB of movies, tv and music with no end in sight, something I don't believe I can do without it. Is this some kind of a long term fight against piracy, steer people away for those bigger devices? Can you download with an apple product from torrent sites,,is there an app for that, lol? PM me with advice, lol

Apple products tend to be among the best in the industry.

The Macbook Pro w/ Retina one of the best laptops ever made. It has extremely good build quality, effectively the best screen, quiet, backlit keyboard, and extremely good battery life. Best overall full-size laptop, by far, in my opinion. Of course, many parts are not user servicable. And parts such as CPU, RAM, MOBO do not tend to be better than competitors (can't expect Apple to do better than Intel).

iPhones and iPads tend to be approximately comparable to rivals by Samsung & HTC. This newest device is fantastic for a tablet.

Macbook Air is fairly good, although I much prefer ASUS Zenbook Prime, since it's the same price yet has a full HD IPS screen.

Not a fan of the iMac or Mac Pro, then again I am not the target market for either of them.

Mac Mini seems alright.

This is a stupid criticism. I could build a desktop more powerful than your netbook for half the cost. Also your netbook doesn't have a retina display or touchscreen.

While Apple keeps releasing the same product over and over again, Samsung is pushing the mobile phone limits by creating flexible screens, watch phones, super thin devices, and more. No wonder Apple tried to sue Samsung over the smart phone patent. They have zero originality and it would only be a matter of time before people forgot about them.

Evidentally if you had been paying attention you would know that Samsung and Apple keep trying to sue eachother over numerous things. Also Samsung does a lot more development of said things like you mentioned, but Apple could just buy the same product from Samsung (or competitors) and package it into their own device. So Apple won't necessarily fall behind.

Now if only they'd make an iPad small enough I can squeeze into the front pocket of my purple skin tight tapered hipster jeans.

Yes, because everyone who owns an iPad is a hipster.

No thank you Apple.

You can keep your sub par hardware and your sub par software to yourselves. There's literally no actual way that the price of that unit costs them the 700$ they retail them for. Not one bit.

About 500$ of the price, is so you can see the Apple logo on it. It's really sad what people are willing to pay to feel part of the crowd.

Apple isn't a monopoly.

The reason they get away with such high markups is because it's largely a bleeding edge halo product - like Nvidia GTX Titan, Tesla Model S, Intel Extreme Edition CPUs, Samsung Galaxy S4 (etc...). No, they're not good value, but it's not as if you can find something as good or better than them for a significantly reduced cost - by any competitor. This is the nature of the beast, and in particular, the consumer industry.

Also plenty of Apple products are priced very reasonably.

When they come out with an IPad whose hardware fits comfortably inside of a watch, is capable of storing as much as 800 gbs, and transmits data to a paper-thin screen that can be handled as easily as a newspaper, I'll be interested.

Why? Because that's revolutionary. This right here is baby steps.

This is typical of the computing industry. Release cycles of 12-18 months and relatively small improvements each generation tend to make for rapid advancement of computers.

Apple runs a very clever monopoly on their products that makes them filthy rich, at the same time never really needing to create anything innovative or worth while.

This is a contradiction.

if they don't create anything innovative or woth while, then how do they have a monopoly?

but alas, not many people want good performance anymore, and that's the problem.

~Tenth

This unfortunate truth seems to be creeping into all areas of consumer products.

Home Audio is a perfect example. People born within the last 20 years likely have NEVER ONCE in their life actually heard music of a decent quality. Unless they are filthy rich or are using their parents old stereo. I don't mean the merits of the music itself, but people playing all their music on ipods and those little sat/sub home theater in a box units. It's really quite sad. Bose is like the apple of the audio world, marketed wonderfully, but extremely overpriced and basically junk quality. In that respect apple is probably better than Bose because at least their products aren't junk, they are just overpriced.

But it's just all about image now. Performance doesn't matter, true value and usefulness doesn't matter. Some say to not worry about it, do what I like and ignore all the image obsessed quality starved people, but that doesn't work because their stupid market choices influence what is available to me as a consumer. Too many people buy junk, then junk is the only thing that will be offered for sale. I want people buying quality and value for selfish reasons, so that quality and value will still be things available to me on the marketplace.

My point is, that consumers purchase products because they are told that they are superior to others, while not really knowing that they are.

Apple products for example, aren't really any better hardware or software wise than any other mainstream computer manufacturer. They have better ease of access and user friendliness yes, but that's a small thing to pay so much for if you can see what I"m getting at.

I have to differ with you on this.

I use my iPad (when doing music) essentially as a MIDI controller. For those unfamiliar with this term, MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a protocol for joining various musical instruments together. Think of a hardware synthesizer, and a lot of synths will be covered with knobs and sliders.

Here is a bunch of my own instruments that can be controlled via midi

Now if playing live, or in real time, it's fun to turn a knob or slider and hear the change in tone coming from the instrument. However, when recording, a MIDI controller can enable one to control all of the instruments (this includes software ones also) from a central box. In the past, MIDI controllers tended to be a box covered in knobs and sliders. The iPad allows this experience to be recreated in software. However, using a mouse to control a lot a parameters can suck, as only one parameter can be modified at a time - a multi-touch screen (such as an iPad) allows this to be gotten around, giving one the benefits of software combined with a hardware experience.

Latency in music (and MIDI) relates to the time difference between the pressing of a key, and hearing the sound produced as a result of the key press. Think of playing a piano and it is nearly instantaneous. In order to feel natural for most musicians a latency of under about 20 milliseconds would be expected.

Apple are a company that have always catered for musicians, even in the day when multimedia was still a gleam in the eye of Microsoft. The reason I ended up purchasing an iPad instead of any Android alternative is quite simple - Android tablets have latency of up to 300-500 milliseconds. This is up to half a second between pressing a key, and hearing the result. Absolutely intolerable for any musician actually wanting to play in time, and have a musical type of experience as opposed to a frustrating programming style one.

www.kvraudio.com...

Even running my iPad via WIFI and not connected to a cable , I get a low latency performance, quick enough as to be unnoticeable.

When I hear people referring to Apple as a cult, and criticise them of selling similar hardware, 'wrapped in cool', for a higher price often I agree. However, it must be understood that not all people buy Apple products to look cool, nor because they are brainwashed zombies. No, in some cases people need tools for certain specialised applications, and for now Apple offer a superior experience. As a musician, I do not wish to wait a year or 2two (I bought my iPad in 2011 and still other tablets have not caught up). Consequently, I paid what I needed, for the tool to do the best possible job for myself - I am not windless Apple fanboi (I use a PC for mopst of my music producing needs), but in fact the opposite.

Here is a bunch of my own instruments that can be controlled via midi

For musicians, at the moment, the iPad offers a vastly superior experience to any Android tablet. I have no doubts that Android, and the upcoming Windows offerings will eventually catch up, but at the moment, the situation is not dissimilar to the early to mid 90s, where Apple offered superior hardware and software for musicians and consequently were highly sought after. At that time Atari and Amiga were also contenders, but PCs were seen more as business machines. With the death of Amiga and Atari, and the multimedia revolution, PCs and Windows eventually caught up, and now offer virtually identical hardware and software capabilities. This is not yet the case for tablets - I am unsure if this is a hardware or software issue, but I would suspect hardware as there are plenty of capable programmers for the Android platform, yet latency still appears to be an issue.

Does apple take advantage of the technologically uneducated? Sure.

Do they make quality products? You bet your ass.

I bought an 08 macbook pro for cheap, stuck 12gb of ram in it, and a 128SSD, and it beats the hell out of my brand new Samsung Windows 8 laptop with identical specs. The Samsung even has a much better processor, but it just bogs down, and has been slow since I unboxed it.

I am a huge windows fan, and a huge tech nerd (build my own desktops,) and although I do acknowledge the Apple cult people are dumb, I would have a hard time getting by without my iPad/iPhone, and I NEVER felt that way in my years of droid devices.

Just because Apple releases a new device doesnt mean I go buy it, I generally wait a couple of generations, and still get decent trade in when I do.

Tenth your argument is about like saying people are dumb for buying a nice Bulova watch when a Timex will do the same thing for a fraction of the price.

I,finally got my refund after 3 weeks of them lying through their teeth about it.
If people didn't like apple then wouldn't buy it, sheep or not.
