I've listened to Rush religiously since 2004. I always felt he was part of the establishment in some fashion, but I also felt he brought some good information to light.

I was listening to his show a few weeks ago when a caller asked Rush why HE doesn't run for President. I had never thought of that and couldn't wait for the answer! Of course, before he answered, there was a commercial break.

When the show returned and I listened to his answer, I almost shat myself. I'm paraphrasing, but the gist was that he just doesn't want to...that he's happy doing radio and other ventures like his stupid tea and book he keeps touting daily.

I thought about this for hours afterwards and couldn't comprehend wth he was even talking about. Here's a guy who could win the Republican Nomination with both hands tied behind his back. He would crush any Democratic opposer just as handily. Rush would get every conservative off their butts and out to vote and win the popular vote by 20 million.

Rush screams that he hates the direction the country is going. He claims to hate what the Democratic party stands for and constantly berates Republicans for their inability to stand by their constituents. He claims to LOVE this country which is why he does his radio show. How can this be true!??

I cannot fathom how anyone would turn down the most powerful position in the known Universe. If you claim to love the country and shout that Republicans are fighting a losing battle, why turn your back on something you can do to help?

I'm not saying he'd be any different than any other politician, but claiming to LOVE something and in the same breath you claim you won't do anything positive to SAVE that thing you love screams SHILL to me.

Thr only thing I can derive from his nonsensical answer is that Rush does indeed know that POTUS is just a puppet. That even if he DID win the Presidency, it wouldn't matter. Taking that into consideration, I have to ask myself WHY he doesn't just come out and say that? Why have a show and claim to give a crap, and when its time to put up or shut up, you scurry into a hole and claim you don't want to be a part of the solution?

I haven't listened to his show in a week and I never will again. Most of you probably already knew Rush was a scam, I suppose I was just holding out some hope....silly me.

Is there any other info you guys here at ATS have on the subject of Rush? I'm now curious as to just how stupid I've been all these years.

I've heard that he's an idiot..
Maybe you give him too much credit?

I've met the man; he is certainly no "idiot"(as others have stated)...and, in my opinion, Rush is an intelligent and very unpretentious guy.

The fact that he wouldn't run for President shouldn't be held against him. If anything, it shows that the man is content and self-confident; recognizing that he can do much good with his own strengths, from his current place in life.

Do you know how much responsibility, effort, time and money you need to become a president?

This guy already already has it made, why would he want to burden himself with such a task?

“The only way to reduce the number of nuclear weapons is to use them.”

With all due respect.
Saying that this guy isn't running for POTUS because he's too good and smart is like saying that Jesse Jackson should run cause of his moral fiber.

I understand he has his fan base, but seriously, give us a break

Limbaugh is one of the most dangerous shills this planet has ever seen; he has done immeasurable harm to rational, calm discourse in this country and dumbed down anyone who listened to him; what kind of human being calls a woman who merely states that females don't get the same kind of medical insurance coverage as men get, a slut, repeatedly for over a week? (Man, I hope she's suing his fat ass!)

He's a pig who was stopped coming back into the country after visiting a country rife with child prostitution with Viagra and pain killer prescriptions that weren't in his name, and his ass would have been in jail for it if he weren't the Republican's satanic version of St. Ronnie.

But to answer your question, he's making tens of millions being a Republican whore. Why would he want to actually, y'know, WORK FOR A LIVING?

It's probably because being the president is a massive burden that only a fool *tries* to take on.

I guess you haven't been listening to Rush long enough...or at least paying attention.

NO SANE PERSON WOULD WANT THE JOB!!! Hello?

Presidents are restricted by both the judicial and the legislature...thank goodness... and by themselves are near powerless when it comes to major changes.

Rush has effected MORE change doing what he does than anyone this side of Reagan.

Plus the pay is better!

He certainly would be slaughtered as Republican candidate for president. His 30 million listeners are about 12 % of the population. That's a whole bunch more who don't listen to him...just the smear campaign run daily.

Plus there's the "old guard" Republicans that hate he almost as much as the left. He has positioned himself as a tea party supporter without endorsing a third party.

He's fine where he is. He's done too much tweeking the other side with borderline outrageous comments for no other reason than to watch them throw fits. LMAO.

That's fine for ratings and entertainment, not for an elected national figure.

It's ok with me if you stop listening to him..I don't think you were getting it anyway....

Well, just because someone is intelligent, it doesn't mean they're necessarily good. Damaging idealogues usually are very smart and truthful, for the most part. Its that little bit of untruth they throw in that the divisive, corrosive venom comes from. The problem with media personalities is they make people buy into the conservative-liberal paradigm, which necessarily makes them buy into a set of stereotypes and assumptions that they impose over ideas, as well as other human beings. The truth is that both self proclaimed liberals and conservatives are right about a lot of things and root much of their world views in real world experiences. The problem is that they wear blinders that prohibit them from seeing their own real world experiences from a perspective outside of their politicized identity. For example, they often make a bunch of harsh judgements about people they percieve as falling into the opposing team, when in reality, they're just writing off people they've never met who probably have a lot more in common with them than they realize. Its divide and conquer.

Your reply had the tone of smarminess to it....u mad bro?

Saying that noone would want the power that comes with the position is nonsense. Seems someone like Rush, who has been on radio for over 25 years, would want more....would want to be remembered in the history books, no?

As a radio host, he will be forgotten a year after he dies. As POTUS, he would join only 45 other men who had ever accomplished such a feat. There's no rational reason anyone wouldn't want that.

Since you seem to "get it" and I don't, lets take you as an analogy. You probably consider yourself to be a Patriot right? You post on this forum, more than likely to complain about the status quo. This accomplishes nothing at all in the grand scheme of things. If YOU had a chance to be POTUS, why would you not accept it? Free lodging, $300k/ per year, lifetime health insurance, lifetime Secret Service protection, the ability to see any classified document, but even more...the ability to affect the changes needed to potentially get this country back on track.

By not trying, aren't you in effect turning your back on your own scruples?? Doesn't it make you a complete fraud to complain about tptb while not taking the opportunity to actually DO something about it?

I get it, Rush makes gobs of money, but at what point does money not mean as much as power? Don't we all point out that the uber rich, who are in politics, want power and not money? Why should Rush be any different....he is after all, a man right?

Perhaps you're right after all...I don't get it.

And the number of Rush listeners are filled with people who listen to him despite their not agreeing with him.

I think Rush whether he realizes it or not is too divisive to truly win a campaign, just because the Democrats would be equally fired up to vote against him, he'd be seen as a refutation of the ENTIRE Conservative movement, and he has too much baggage and skeletons in the closet.

If anything, Rush running for president would result in a loss and a MAJOR set back to Conservatism.

LOL, I get your idealistic view of the Presidency, yet, Reagan, who I believe was never intended to be anything other than a "fill-in" with no chance to defeat an incumbent president, was betrayed in his deal with the democrats.

The Presidency, without the full power of the Judicial and executive branches has little opportunity to effect an significant changes.

Rush is considered one the major factors in the change in the political landscape, not just directly with his massive audience, but as the forerunner of the whole conservative movement, including Fox and all the others that followed, both via traditional media and bloggers.

Rush know his limitations and where he contributes best. He doesn't pander to the uncommitted, the independents or any other waffling group.

Presidents by their nature are the leaders of ALL Americans and, on occasion, present themselves as such.

In the name of entertainment, of market share, Rush has made many, many enemies.

He is not electable and he knows it.

I can fantasize on being President, and I'm sure Rush has and you as well.

Being conservative, reality trumps fantasy in my world. His too, I"d bet.

As a side note, the general subject suggests to me that you don't see a viable candidate for the Republicans in the next presidential election.

Otherwise, why even consider Rush?

If that's the case, then I agree with that unsaid view....
