THANK YOU S.E. CUPP!

Source

We may not agree on very much, but this, certainly.

CNN Crossfire host S.E. Cupp pushed back at criticism of the National Football League’s Washington franchise on Friday by insinuating it was a distraction from other issues facing Native American communities.

“Native Americans have real problems,” Cupp told Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC). “Poverty, domestic abuse, high suicide rates.”

Cupp did not mention some House Republicans’ refusal to agree to expand the Violence Against Women Act to include those communities, instead playing a clip of Walter “Red Hawk” Brown rebuking President Barack Obama for weighing in on the issue and saying he would support changing the team’s name from “Redskins.”

“What’s offensive to me is this: we have 11 state recognized tribes,” Brown said in the clip. “And [Obama] hasn’t done one thing to get those tribes federally recognized.”

How about they focus on the real issue effecting Aboriginal people in the US instead of these dumb name issues that nobody really cares about.

Agreed. We have similar problems in some areas of Australia.

Sadly, I don't see things changing. The change has to come from within those communities. "You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink." They have to meet us half way. It is a perplexing problem, one that exists in many places in this world.

Generational abuse can only change if you can help the children. Politicians can't take the long term view, they only see ahead to the next election.

You'd think the 400+ year genocide would be taken a bit more seriously.

Then again, why am I not surprised. Most North Americans can't stand up for themselves, let alone anybody else.

Both sides slaughtered each other.
But it doesn't matter now. Natives get all the free healthcare and perks that they can handle.

I am of American Indian ancestry, I don't have a card, I don't get anything free from the government or my tribe. Back on topic, yeah...I grew up next to the res. It has its share of problems just like the rest of poor society. Redskins is racist and if they are going to go so far as to rename their NBA team because it was deemed too violent...why not just change the name? We actually used to play a team in high school whose mascot was "the Savages"...wanna talk about racist...damn...

Washington Redskins?

Has nothing to do with race, actually: they wouldn't be so red skinned if they weren't always embarrassing themselves.

And I mean "Washington", not the players.

I think its ridiculous that someone would think there is a specific "order" in which every native American on the planet should address issues.

If **** needs to change, then change it. Confronting the issues of insults or racial slurs being used as the names of landmarks or team mascots doesn't mean everyone forfeits on every other issue of social injustice.

grow up.
