Did the government shutdown affect you?

Hi

Now that the government is running again I was wondering if any of you were actually affected by the shutdown

My life did not change one bit during the shutdown. I went to work every day and opened my store, and since I live in Kc and sell sports apparel, and the chiefs are 6 and 0 I have actually been killing it during the shutdown

So were any of you actually affected by the shutdown, and how?

To be honest I wanted them to just stay shutdown and pass the deadline just to see what would really happen.

I was not affected personally and I too would like to see what happens if we don't raise the debt ceiling... I don't believe we would default ... but then I'm average Joe... what do I know?

I didn't affect me at all either. They couldn't have left it shut down much longer because I think most people didn't even notice. If they kept at it, folks might start wondering if they really need all the big wigs in Washington to keep life moving along swimmingly.

They wouldn't want to show folks that they WEREN'T as ESSENTIAL as we have been led to believe now would they?

I was affected through way of disappointment...disappointment that the shutdown didn't end with a default.

Seriously though, the shutdown had no affect on me whatsoever. I am an Aussie, and just found the whole thing interesting.

I have probably lost a potential job because I needed a detailed account of my work history and as I do not have all the information I had requested a copy of it from Social Security who charge a small fee for that information. Due to the shutdown they did not have the staff available to put the information together for me so I missed the deadline to put in my background check information.

It made my blood boil.

They went out of their way to spend our money erecting barriers (weaved with caution tape) around open air monuments so our veterans couldn't visit!

It's downright treasonous, and everyone needs to see these people for the scum they are.

I needed information from the US Dept of Agriculture website. It was shutdown.

I had to read though a bunch of threads about the goverment shut down, and was able to confirm in my own mind that the dollar will fall sooner rather than later. Otherwise it was business as usual.

Yes. It affected me in this way. I used about double the amount of alcohol I have been consuming up until then, so now I'm up to about a half-bottle of Black Velvet a day. I am sure, that the absolute best thing I can do is really try and get it up to about a bottle a day! If a fifth of whiskey a day will keep Uncle Sam away, I bid my liver a fond Fair Winds and Following Seas right now! Cry Havoc and Let Loose the Hounds of Hair Shirts in D.C.

Can't necessarily say I was personally affected, but it I do find it a bit odd that the contract work I was doing for a major telecommunications contractor was cancelled with a 24 hour advance notice on October 15, 2013... and 8/16/2013 I received a solicitation for similar contract work for the same contractor during the afternoon of October 16, 2013.

I'm still going to apply for unemployment benefits and I suppose I'll see what becomes of this. At least while on unemployment, my health care costs will drop.

Lucky you get to keep BV. I've had to switch to Potter's and Barrett's to keep my intake levels similar.

Whatever damage has been done up until now is a pre-existing condition, right?

Well, when the penance for the BV gets to steep, there's always a can of Brake Fluid strained through a loaf of Wheat Bread! I believe it's marketed as Mojo-ski or STERNOKOV in the U.S.S.R.

I wasn't affected in a "omg this didn't work for me type of way" though but I will say, I lost complete confidence now in our government doing the right thing for the people, although I probably didn't have a lot before the shutdown so that might be six of one and half a dozen of the other..

So, no... not affected. At least most likely...

Business is slower... much much slower. But there could be more reasons than just one for that!

It's not just that. My ramen intake has increased from 1 to 4 packs a week- can't be good for my carbohydrates, and these off-brand liquor vendors run ethanol through wood chips for flavor, then sell the chips off to the barbecue industry for 'smoke' flavoring.

When most of your food is bought at the 99 cent store, including your barbecue sauce and milk....
(Liquor still bought at the liquor store, but that's a licensing issue.)

I hear you, but Ramen is good. Luckily, I live right next door to a sate park with plenty of game and fish so in a pinch, I can make do (If you call venison and trout "making do" I am sometimes confused on why the feral government doesn't "privatize" some of the lower level functions that they are responsible for like, postal,
regulatory, oh yeah, and our nukes. (Apparently the US Air Force can no longer be trusted to launch!) and maybe some really easy stuff, like The Supreme Court, The EPA, The IRS, The NPS, and the battalions of Photoshop specialists that keep Hillary from looking like Jabba the Hutt !

I was affected by the shutdown.

I was a lot more nervous and jumpy. I did not know if it was a scam to scare people or if people would go hungry. I was afraid that people would not get the services they need and I was afraid for the people that considered it as an afront.

I still have an idea that the government are one party pretending to be two and that they see people as unimportant.

Yes, yes, yes. They are in fact one party, and not even a FUN party! And they affect everything because the financial markets around the world are wondering just how much CRACK the upper & lower houses go through each hour! and we get to go through it again, just after new years! The hits just keep on coming !

It got my hopes up.

I could hardly drag myself out of bed this morning hearing the US wouldnt default.

A dark day indeed.

I was not affected...except...wishfully wishing that they would all go home and stay home.
