Well, if we don't dig the weeds properly the pastures will become overgrown and the weeds will take over since they are much more adapted and have more effective defences and survival benefits. On a human level things like birth control could eliminate the untold need for war, famines and epidemics (and snakes) to regulate the human stock. There are plenty of alternate ways to regulate the human population. Though I think it is wrong, the Chinese policy of only supporting one child per family may have postponed a much feared surge in the world population. The Earth can only support a given amount of people with food, water, air and shelter and all the things needed to live a normal life. Just see the impact the current population has on the Earth now, and then double it. It can't continue, anyone can see that.
