Maryville, Missouri Rape Case

I debated on whether or not to place this in the Social Issues Forum but, decided to make it simple and just put it here.

Basically, a couple of local "elite" athletes were freed from rape and underage pornography charges.

The main alleged 'culprit' is the grandson of a major political figure and even though he was charged, all charges were dropped a couple of weeks later....not only against him but, a couple others involved.

This case reminds me of Steubenville.

This time though....the poor girl was actually left outside on her doorstep/lawn.....she could have died given the temp. outside.

I hope I have the time to bring more info into the thread as soon as possible.

Thanks for bringing this to share and I can only hope that Missouri residents live up to their ornery reputation, now that this is in the open with names. BTW.. I see a victims name and not the punks who did it. Why is that? The victim is the one assumed to need the most protection in the first place and in this, is younger as well.

I'm sure everyone in that area knows all about it though and who is who to fine detail. All the two kids need, to understand rape as a public spectacle isn't the locker room joke they may think it is, IMO.

More importantly? The people in the system that fail to do their jobs and do right by victims need more reminders that every single case runs the chance of making them absolutely famous for their Fail. Indeed... National News is only a major screw up and one determined citizen submitting to the major outlets away.

Another link for your thread, I'm sure we will see many people blaming her for getting drunk. The only thing she is guiulty of is being stupid which I'm sure every single person on this website has been stupid in the past. Stupidity does not give others the right to use and abuse someone. It definitely cannot justify it either, she could have died left on her porch.

It's sad to think that in this day and age we still seem to place lesser value on some people to justify other peoples actions or defend those actions. I hope they do re-open this case and punish those responsible just like they would for anyone else.

This story is sickening and thanks to the OP for sharing. This isn't too far from my home.

I think for the alcohol? She's guilty of bad judgement. They're guilty of Rape. We can all forgive a little bad judgement and anyone who can't....from their big pretty glass house....by all means, throw the first rock on that little crusade.

Bad judgement is supposed to be something we look back on and laugh about. Rape is forever. No forgiveness for the animals who created a weaker prey to attack. Although.... Even animals aren't quite that deceptive....just not cunning enough. It really takes a human to be that predatory, eh?

Send the little predators off to a place where they can meet the real Apex Predators our species produces. Missouri has a couple, with names like Potosi .....State Prison.

Absolutely, there should be no forgiveness or excuse for the action.

The entire community is at fault as well for making her feel like a criminal herself for reporting it and running them out of town. I don't care how much you value sports or how upstanding you believe a family is, nothing justifies that action.

I find it unbelievable after that she was made feel so bad by pretty much everyone in that community that she tried to kill herself.

It's too bad other people there cannot be imprisoned for all of the extra pain they put that young woman through.

This has been on my local news for a couple of days now and the reason for the girls name being released is the parents wanted it released so they could get all the info out there.

Today they reported that Anonymous has gotten involved and basically threatened the town if they don't prosecute the kids..

What she did was stupid, but what they did was evil. This is sickening. Liberty and justice for all, right? Not just for some.

Thanks for the clarification on that. The family, IMO, is the only side who really has the right to break privacy for whatever reason they think it necessary. It's good to know it happened that way and not another violation of the girl.

Hopefully justice gets served with a side of question for why they didn't do it the first time around.

I am really surprised this has not gotten more exposure. This case is a slam dunk with confession of rape, and yet somehow the police have lost all the evidence. How can the people not be up in arms over this? In fact, they are not up in arms against the alleged violator and his family which includes his Republican grandfather Rex Barnett of Missouri retired:

Rape Case Against Politician’s Grandson Dropped Despite So Much Evidence, It’s Ridiculous

It is the strange and nightmarish case in the Missouri town of Maryville. After the rape, then-14-yea- old Daisy Coleman was dumped on her front lawn without shoes in below freezing weather, drunk and assaulted. Her hair was frozen and she was incoherent when her mom answered the door. Her assailants confessed to police over their role – part of the act in question was even caught on video tape – but the accused football star Matthew Barnett, then a high school senior from a prominent Maryville family, would not be prosecuted. Instead, Coleman was literally blamed for being a victim, her mother was persecuted and fired from her job at a veterinary clinic, and their house was literally burned down.

It seems Barnett’s grandfather is an important and well-known politician in the Maryville area, Rex Barnett, a former member of the House of Representatives in Missouri‘s state government on committees in charge of funding for many parts of the criminal justice system, a long-time member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a prominent Mason.
