We can play semantics and technical games about men who follow the law only when it suits them, or we can be pragmatic and realistic here.

In just over 48 hours, our nation defaults. This isn't a game. This isn't a joke. This isn't a news story to come and go.

When lesser nations have done this, it's called the beginning of their end until intervention by outside world powers...with or without the nation's permission.

It's happened time and again. For awhile there, it almost seemed to be getting a little too routine as corrections came all over the world in the early 90's.

That brick wall is sitting right there ..and to say it's Boehner's fault more than Obama's OR the other way around for anything less than a very equal 50/50 peeing contest between the overall leadership of both parties? Well, that's just playing right into their hands for controllable citizens who salivate on the chime with more reliability than Pavlov's canine pal.

Whatever brought it to this point? WHO CARES... By 72 hours without resolution, NO ONE will give a damn what caused it to get here.......but WHY they didn't STOP BICKERING before we hit the wall at highway speed.

Just a couple days away.....for a VERY near miss ..or? It's been a great run while we had a Great nation.

I agree, all but with one thing.

I care, I care that it got to this point, I care that are reps are so bought and paid for they burn money on defence and sacrifice social services in the name of safety.

I put to you that a default NEEDS to happen, IT will be painful, it will cost, and it will lead to a world no one knows the out come to.

BUT if we are a country of laws, if we are a constitutional republic, than we must allow it to happen.

The government needs a slimming down, and if it takes a catostrophic default to do it...

WELL I say we shoulder this burden NOW as americans, Otherwise we are handing it off to our children at a later date.

What better place than here, what better time than now.

NOW is the time for change, NOW is the time for action.

I see no reason why the party that literally architected, cheered default...the party that continues to say..."Hey, default isn't that bad"...the party that outright demanded the shut-down and hostage taking...all of a sudden is supposed to be 1/2 to blame????

A 50/50 peeing contest??? WHAT???

When one party demands that the all three branches of government cede them the power to over-turn or scuttle a law which was enacted by both houses of congress and the peoples representatives, signed into law by the President and upheld by the supreme court??? Legislative (check) Executive (check) Judicial (check)...and affirmed by not one, but TWO Presidential elections!!! One where he ran on the promise of Obamacare...another after it passed! A law which the TP tried over 43 times to repeal through democratic means and FAILED.

But 55% of one HALF of the House of Representatives want their way...democracy be damned!! Otherwise they are going to cluster-eff every American for the next 3 decades at a minimum???

That is not a 50/50 peeing contest...this is economic terrorism...it is Democracy vs. the wack jobs.

AND BTW ...The Wack Jobs on the Right STILL cant agree that default is not a good thing!!!

They STILL DONT EVEN HAVE A PLAN TO OFFER TO AVERT IT!!! GET THAT??? THEY STILL HAVEN'T AGREED ON THEIR DEMANDS? WHY???..>CUZ a lot of them just want to burn the country down...They don't WANT to avert default!!

50/50??? Are kidding???

AS OF 6:15PM

House Republicans moved Tuesday to vote on a new plan to end the government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling, but it was not clear if they could muster the support in their conference.

The House Rules Committee postponed a 5:40 p.m. meeting to consider the rule for the measure, a sign GOP leaders don't have the votes for it to pass.

Chairman Pete Sessions announced that the meeting was postponed to give members more time to call their districts and consider the bill. They will be given an hour's notice when the meeting is rescheduled.

It may be better that we default so our credit can be downgraded. That way we can't borrower as much.

It's unbelievable some are still trying to blame Obama or the Democrats for this.

There are Republicans on Conservative talk shows and on Fox News that are blaming the Tea Party Republicans for this mess...and yet the Tea Party zombies continue to try to say that Democrats are responsible.

Boehner can't even get enough Republican votes to get their "solution" passed in the House where they hold a majority...and yet this is still a Democrat induced problem.

I guess it will be the 2012 election all over again in 2014, when Fox News and Right Wing media tells all their followers that they have the election in the bag despite all the liberal biased scientific polls...and then on election night they will all be speechless because they will find out that once again they were lied to.

My only question is when do these people realize they are being lied to and stop listening to those lying to them??? You would think the 2012 election would have done it, but it appears not.

That is not how it works.

And this is why we are in this situation, because people like you have absolutely no idea about the debt ceiling or the debt. And then you go vote.

It's almost like nobody was taught what was happening and what it looked like for those living inside Germany leading up to the transition to totalitarianism.

Oh that's right... most weren't.

*sigh*

Makes it easy when you don't even have to rewrite the script.

Ah, hell can't stop us now! AAAAH HELL! CAN'T STOP US NOW!.....sorry, not sure if you meant to reference Rage Against the Machine, but it's appropriate for the topic at hand.
Even though, I'm sort of afraid of what a default would bring. I can't help but agree with you for the sake of my child. If the game isn't reset it's just going to get less fun to play anyway because theirs too many rules, too much red tape, and not enough actual change.

You're darn right no compromise. Tell the republicans to pay the bills and get over the ACA.

If it is so great why wont dems the potus and the rest of congress make the law apply to everyone?

The ACA is not about affordable medical care, it's about the socialist faction of the gov't wanting to gain control of 1/6 of the economy.

If you can control a persons access to medical care you can control them and their families.

We will not default in 48 hours. The debt ceiling is how much money congress has authorized the US Government to borrow. If we don't raise the limit on time I will agree it will send shock waves world wide. However how do you stop a teenager from spending money with an unlimited credit card? You take it away.

We close our national parks and shutdown parts of Government that are non-essential, meanwhile this administration sends foreign aid to terrorist.

Unbelievable!

I'm just going to say that the partisanship building on this and the heat/passion of it is reaching a point similar to the 2012 election ....and I considered that a new bottom I'd never seen before.

It was literally a life changing thing to see for me then, and shook me out of a lifetime of loyalty to this Republican/Democrat/Demopublican dog and pony show.

I hope, if nothing else, this experience works to shake more out of it.

We have to have gone beyond ADD and into amnesia territory to think anything happening now was one party in the making or even one President. That is why I say we won't care who brought the final steps to the collective fail.

The fail, in the end, is still collective.

It is applied evenly...everyone is required to have insurance...even the POTUS and members of congress.

What the GOP wants to do is treat the POTUS and Congress UNEQUALLY by FORCING them to use the exchanges, when no one else is forced to use the exchanges.

But congrats on repeating the Fox News talking points for the day...apply the law to everyone, 1/6 of the economy, socialism, control....I think you hit all the current buzzwords that the Right Wing is trying to push this week.

However, since they are all false...it kind of makes you look silly.

The Government Shutdown and the Default on debt obligations are two totally different things that are the perfect storm of dumb and doom to see come as overlapping events.

The former being what has happened many times over the years and domestic in nature. It's a pain game for B.S. politics with this one being more nasty than most. The latter is as much international as domestic and works into the world where reactions are unforgiving and cruel. Usually, that's been to the benefit of our nation as it was used against others. Now it'll be us....hoping others show mercy and a little forgiveness they don't have to give.

Defaulting on debt is a trigger event that starts other things in motion by direct cause and effect, which can't be stopped without blatant and outrageous special treatment no one in the world is likely to feel like giving us just recently.

Among other things, it puts our credit rating in the crapper and that kicks interest rates. Those interest rates govern things like compounding interest rate and progression to interest on the current national debt.

If there is no other indication in our current events our Government system on a Federal level is broken, I dunno what else you people need to see.

For those of you still pointing fingers at one another calling yourselves democrats and republicans, its your damn fault our system is screwed up..

Incumbent congressmen and women, and senators getting re-elected when approval rating in the senate and the house are at its lowest in decades is insanity.

Incumbents in a senate and congress with the lowest approval record in decades getting re-elected...

Yea lets let it default, lets imagine the worst things that can happen for a moment, EBT cards not working, ahem crime sky rockets, violent crime that is, hmm maybe us army personal do not get paid, for a period, federal aid to U.S Prisons ceases, and many get released due to not having enough money to feed them, etc. Oh China, gets pissed off at us, the dollar gets devalued to hell, a new world currency emerges, we become like Spain became after England defeated their armada. etc.

Of course these are what if's..........

I am tired of listening to hopeless morons on the internet saying let it all burn, a little over a decade ago, we had a surplus everyone was happy as hell, McDonald had 2 for 2 quarter pounders and big mac's gas was a dollar a gallon, before that surplus we had a deficit as well, in the trillions..

I think people need to get a grip.. In my opinion all of the people that knew how to run this country, in the house and senate are dead... This new class of Politicians, have rigged the system, and have obviously rigged the voting precincts as I said incumbents getting re-elected with 30 percent approval ratings
Yea its broken...

We need to vote them all out, demand impeachment for all of these lawmakers, as far as Obama, care that is just a taxation on the people, a cooperation tax people.. Those that wine about Obama care being good for people with pre-conditions are idiots, if the lawmakers cared about them they could have passed a bill just for them..

Not to mention the majority of Americans, are not intelligent enough to even understand what Obama care is, when it becomes mandatory and how it will be enforced and how it will be a law across the land..

If you call yourself a democrat, you should be ashamed to do it, if you call yourself a republican, you should be ashamed of it as well, NO American, citizen should be proud of their political party at the moment. These lawmakers have broken our system...

I'm too young to have experienced it, but paying attention to this I think I'm getting some feel for how people felt during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We're under 48 hours away from total financial armageddon, it could even happen before then. One billionaire who holds a lot of US treasuries and thinks things are about to goto hell sells his bonds. The next thing we know the dollar enters freefall and we have hyperinflation.

As far as who to blame? Who cares. I know who I blame for 100% of this, but it doesn't matter. I want to credit someone with a solution, not blame someone for screwing up.

Why default? Can't they just spend a bit less money and continue to pay the bond interest out of taxation?

The Republican Party has been broken and that is the goal here. Mid term elections will sway to the Left and when they control the House and the Senate what do you think will happen? Take this analogy...

The House - This is the spouse who is trying to stop their kids from spending all of their money and stop using it for frivolous things

The Senate - This is the spoiled child who can make the parents do what they want and will continue to do what it wants until spanked and put in time out

The POTUS - This is the enabling spouse who will not stand up to his children and will not talk about it with the other spouse and will not negotiate or discipline.

It is a collective issue here, not partisan anymore. You have those who are stepping over party lines and it is not enough. The Senate almost has the House where it wants it..giving in once again and not holding a country hostage but drilling it into the ground....

Real easy here - Suspend Obamacare to review, fund necessary programs and CUT spending. This is the deal the POTUS should put forward. He needs o step up and be a leader not someone who pouts and says I will not negotiate.

it is 50/50

the democrats won't agree to ANYTHING that hurts their precious handout to the insurance industry, and the republicans won't pass a budget, or debt ceiling increase that doesn't include some kind of responsible reigning in of the out of control spending..in this case, it's complete defunding of the ACA, or at least postponement of the nastiest part of it, which is the individual mandate....

and don't hand me that crap about "the people's representatives"...the vast majority of these jokers represent the people, about as much as i represent space aliens....that is to say, they don't...

our "elected representatives" don't really represent us anymore...there's too much money and corruption in politics...money, and their own personal well being is more important to them than the will of the people..

most of the legislative branch is the pockets of corporations, and i imagine a lot of the judicial branch is too...and you refer to those who appear to have the interest of the people in mind as crazies...

honestly, what is your deal?

From the OP news source

Fox News is told that a decision by the Heritage Action to come out against the emerging bill drove some Republicans to oppose the plan -- and helped sideline the proposal

I think this had more to do with the Republicans killing the bill.

Seriously, why in the world is an unelected outside group controlling politicians? I thought the Tea Party members were above such corruption.
