Looks like you are typical politically correct modern American - spending your energy being affronted about trivia and being manipulated by the mass media while the U.S. collapses around you. This could only happen in a bored and overly fed country- congratulations-you are truly a deep thinker!

Your ignorance of the OP sustains me......mmmmmmm.....tasty ignorance and butter for my popcorn.

Now go back and read all six sentences.

You just ignored 8 pages of discussion.

So, please don't call people names.

Impetuous much?

So what if you're offended? Well boo-f-ing-hoo.

What does that mean? Nothing. Who cares? No one has stopped you from breathing, living your life. No one has physically assaulted you. You simply "feel" offended.

I find many things offensive - doesn't mean everyone else does or the world has to pander to my wishes.

Why do people make such a big deal about being "offended"?

Num num num.../smacks lips Num num num.. your lack of reading the OP OFFENDS ME!!!! num num num....and makes my popcorn salty (which, incidentally, tastes like the tears of a clown)

Well, since you sparked this discussion...have you actually ventured an opinion on the issue at hand? I suppose I could scan the last 10 pages, but it's easier to ask you directly.

This is a tough call.

Private Team in a Private League.

I really don't know how Native's feel about it.

I guess if it was really hurtful to Native's.

I would hope the owner would consider changing it.

Good answer (which is to say I agree). Thanks.

Considering all native Americans I have heard speak about this said it's a non issue, maybe us pale-faces should take our guilt and use it more constructively.

I don't work off of guilt. I work off of contact with the First Nations community on a regular basis, and actually asking...as a dumb white guy...how they prefer to self-identify. I also understand the concept of them having had their cultures suppressed and handed back to them as stereotypical caricatures.

And in taking back their cultures and rebuilding their traditions...that's the first thing that has to go. Their call...not mine. Or yours, I might add.

Here's a homegrown adjunct to the discussion that I saw reference to while reading a Washington Post article (bless the internet, eh?) about our very own Jian Ghomeshi. The reference...

The Nepean Redskins football club has revealed plans to drop its controversial moniker, and will formally retire the team's name on Friday. According to The Ottawa Citizen, Ian Campeau of A Tribe Called Red, who filed a human rights complaint against the team, has offered to perform a fundraising concert to help with the costs of change. Q essay: retire the 'Redskins' moniker

The essay is available to listen to on that site.

Why would you complain about the name, and then say "Hail the Redskins" there at the end?
It kind of defeats the purpose of your whole thing when you use the word that you are trying to say is offensive, don't you think? I don't care either way. I'm a Raiders fan.

That's right it is downright disgraceful they continue to use the name.

The name stands for everything bad about America.

I personally get offended ever single time I hear their name.

I almost get sick. I taste throw-up in my mouth just thinking about it.

Please change the name. I can't take it. It's beyond disrespectful.

You must drop that no good word "Washington" from your name.

Hail to the Redskins...

Ha, yeah. I guess I feel pretty stupid after re-reading it.
How did I miss that the first time?
