Their appearance serves as some evidence that the teams’ snowball recipe may have included some slightly less benign ingredients than the pure, fresh-fallen snow.

Uhmmm. Ya think?
I remember a few snowballs in my youth that had some extra ingredients in them. Put a knot on my head too. Ouch!

No that leaves bruises more in your rump than your face.

If memory serves, a little extra pressure in the hand can turn a snowball into an ice-ball.
That would be enough.

Yes and it depends on the "type" of snow. Some of the dry powdery snow that skiers love is hard to compress. Moisture could be added. Or some areas might have slushier snow. Did they have freezers? Maybe they stored some special ones for a few days... Or rocks can be inserted of course. Something I did once when vandalizing a window...smh disapprovingly @ my younger self...

Today that photo would be Exhibit A in some lawsuit against some students, the school, the city, and maybe the doctors who treated the injured, if they made any errors.

Peter Griffin: It was a simpler time. A better time.

Me: Except for segregation, polio, and the legalization of nearly every drug imaginable.

The other half of me: Yeah but what about nuclear weapons, aids, world wars and the deterioration of morals and wisdom?

Me: Nope. There's nothing more evil than racism. Therefore your argument is invalid.

The other half of me: Now you're just being an ass. This conversation is over.
