Do "Dis-Info" agents really exist? If you are one, come here. I'd love to know what it's like.

Source?

You have been active here for a long time Boncho, do you think we have any real government sponsored folks dropping by? I would not be surprised, but I'm a bit skeptical of it. Perhaps they read looking for psycho's, but beyond that?

You'd be surprised, man.
There was zero doubt the person I spoke to was an agent. I tried befriending her. Haha

Wasn't having it. Mostly the U2U was to give me props for hitting the nail on the head about their posting habits (see my second post here).

And even if they neglect posting in this thread, I promise they're reading it. But I wouldn't be surprised if they're posting here too.

After what happened with psycho boy, I wouldn't be surprised. There has been some kooks. Although, we have enough information on NSA spying that we know meta-data is combed. So it's more than likely information of the site is consolidated and reviewed on occasion, but I imagine thousands of sites are under the same scrutiny.

As far as "Paid shills", the only ones I have seen are ones that are pushing their own ideas, products, books, websites, etc. They are transparent as a bottle of Evian. Most of those accounts end up banned since they can't follow T&Cs, and ironically, before they expire they are usually the ones to accuse everyone else of being a shill.

Sock puppet accounts for political ideas? I'd bet money on it during election years. This place gets tons of new accounts spewing political garbage, which, might be campaign workers working hard on their time off, or just overactive uni students.

Beyond that I can't think of anything off hand. Save all the people in my employ, members of BIS, Boncho Intelligence Service. We work █████ for the sovereign state of █████ for the goal of █████.

I'm inclined to believe that we are visited by propagandists from political campaigns. I'd almost be surprised if that were not true.

Your opinion of this person based on what? Years of experience uncovering hidden identities. A few of us have played out sarcastic quips with other forum members in U2U's making them think we are shills, aliens, men in black, a sasquatch. You don't know for _____ what the person you are talking about is.

Based on her word and posts or other evidence. I can't imagine the real deal admitting it to anyone. Could happen though I suppose.

Hey, it was worth a try. "Hey, are you guys working for the government to flood internet message boards with garbage?" *crickets, then even the crickets begin mocking me* I guess you just can't trust shills any more. Come on, dis-info agents. Wouldn't you care to defend your side of the viewpoint? I guess shill is sort of a loaded word. I apologize for that. I mean, there's no black and white. Only shades of grey. Gotta do what you have to do for a living. I know telemarketers. I ain't judging. I just want an account of such a thing that isn't from like, China.

Your posts are a hoot. Are you just bored or what?

All kidding aside though, if someone claiming to be one of these disgruntled disinfo agents that you speak of decides to talk to you, how will you know you’ve gotten hold of a real, live disinfo agent? I mean since you don’t know any disinfo agents, what criteria will you use to determine this? After all, I guess they do specialize in disinfo.

If no disinfo agent answers your call to come forward and tell all, does that mean they don’t exist? I mean I’d like it if God showed up and settled some of these religious debates going on, too. But I don’t look for that to happen.

What kind of disinformation can you post up on ATS that someone will not research and debunk?

Besides, why do disinformation agents have to be 'paid shills' telling us things they know are false? You would get far better results from loyal operatives who were convinced of the truth of what they were posting, or at least were convinced that it was not in the public interest to have the truth be known. You know, clean-cut young men typing in their shirtsleeves. Working on a salary, with a designation like Public Information Officer (Cyberspace Division), and a heart full of the kind of conviction money can't buy.

Never underestimate your enemy.

True, and there are always those who will debunk the debunkers.

IMO, what is more important to see is that anyone working in the media can give disinformation. As for myself, I pay less attention to ‘who’ is talking (or posting, if it is a forum) and more attention on ‘what’ it is that is actually being said, then decide what is truth and what is not.

Never underestimate your enemy.

Excellent advice.

I would think not (specific to the government). What would they 'really' achieve? The doom porn on this site is already scaring the bejesus out of everyone who takes it all in as fact. Their goals are already being met so why interfere? Then there's the danger of being hammered by 'fraud, waste, and abuse' ... and that's serious business, as well as a huge embarrassment. I'm LOL imagining the headlines.

Now NGOs might have some interest in disinformation, and they may in-turn have a vested interest in the government, who doesn't want to look bad by being directly associated with "name your stupidity."

I bet the owner of ATS would have a field day if the government was caught taking a dump on this site. Can you imagine the sum of the out-of-court settlement? Monitored though ... no doubt.

They are not needed on here. Members do a good enough job destroying each other, why pay people to do it? The crazier, unresearched threads detract from the serious subjects so anything is open to sceptism. No matter how well researched and outlined it may be there will always be jaded people who have been.burnt too many times .
The fact that people throw around the words shill and disinfo agent simply becauae someone disagrees with their theory shows how.un needed they actually are. We create them ourselves out of any non believer and anyone who offers a different point of view. The government are not worried about sites like these, we police ourselves and there are too many egos here to organise any sort of actual resistance or rebellion anyway.
