8 House democrats arrested by DC police for what the reps are calling civil disobedience to force the Republicans to vote on immigration. Looks like the shutdown is in full effect eh?

WASHINGTON (AP) — At least eight Democratic members of the House were among about 200 people arrested Tuesday after they blocked a main street near the Capitol during a massive rally seeking to push Republicans to hold a vote on a stalled immigration reform bill.

I commend politicians doing anything to prove they aren't complete self serving robots but you have to remember that the federal government refuses to abide by the laws currently on the books, why would they expect anyone to jump through hoops to change laws when the federal government selectively enforces them?

Police would not identify those arrested. Representatives of the social policy organization Center for Community Change and The Associated Press witnessed the arrests of Reps. John Lewis, D-Ga.; Luis Gutiérrez, D-Ill.; Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz.; Keith Ellison, D-Minn.; John Crowley and Charles Rangel, both D-N.Y.; Al Green, D-Texas; and Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.,

Exactly why wouldn't they identify them? If you are arrested on a suspected DUI because you're not drunk but know your rights, your name is plastered in the blotter section of the local newspaper the next day, there are no victims here, names please.

Citing the demonstration, the White House issued a statement calling for the House to take up the immigration bill.

Ah, I see, so the White House would like to see more civil disobedience to effect change? Don't worry, I think it's coming!

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I do not agree with them but I applaud them for standing up for what they believe in.

Again the problem is an inability for Congress to compromise and act like leaders. These folks are as much at fault as those they are protesting against IMO.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Too bad they didn't get pepper sprayed and clubbed on the noggin.
Might knock some sense into them.
Notice those arrested all come from states heavily infested with illegals.
Nothing like voting more votes for yourself at the citizen's expense.

The question is if they will be getting a slap on the wrist or the full force of the law.

If it is a slap, then it will show a bias and an unfair justice system.

Figures the Dems that show up to support the people exercising their first amendment rights they get busted. The Republicans show up at a protest with the Vets they get a photo op. Makes sense.

That's pretty messed up...... You think protestors should not only be arrested, but also assaulted as well? That's just sick, and would not wish that on anyone, even jerks I don't like.

Now now... Haven't you heard? They are only illegal until they are declared to not be illegal anymore. Then we have no immigration problem and it's all solved like that. (snap)

Isn't it great to have such snappy solutions to problems which have vexed our nation for more years than any of us have been alive? I'm sure it's all for the best though...cause they say it is. Must be... Right?

This would never be another one of those high pressure 'pass it right now or else' sells, would it? Naww......because we all know the Government is only there for the best interests of us little people. Illegal and legal alike.

What could possibly go wrong?

They will be getting a light tap, not even a slap and that is if the majority of all charges don't quietly go away. That is the reality of the situation.

The thing is though, with everything that is happening right now including the shutdown, many, many Americans are keen to the underwhelming and oafish plot to "make it hurt" when it comes to citizens, veterans and the little guys as far as the shutdown goes.

Congress even voted unanimously to pay ALL furloughed federal workers as soon as it reopens so all the hardship stories about federal workers not making their mortgages and all that..... Boooooo, hoooooo.

Where are the federal workers crying for the citizens whose lives they destroy by following stacks upon stacks of bureaucracy when it comes to things like organic farms. I'm looking at you EPA, FDA and others. No tears, probably laughs, slaps on the backs and promotions.

And when we are all forced to part time status, we will be competing for jobs with these millions of ILLEGALS. We are already competing for food, rent, and anything else you can think of. Simple supply and demand, These law breakers are getting way too much from the taxpayer already, now they want to force us to the side, this will help in the process of the next revolution, targets are being set, and these so called leaders, and MANY more are at the top of the list...The reason they say American adults are the dumbest on the planet is because we are the only ones who will sit and watch this crap happen and do nothing but talk about the games...

or it's just another media play to show that the Dems reps are willing to go to jail for illegal immigrants?

ie: cementing the already concrete base of voters?

Just another version on why this could have happened.

Kinda makes one wonder why they aren't doing something so revolutionary for those of us LEGALLY here. Tax paying citizens...who paid their damned paychecks.

But, no, let's not focus on that. Watch Miley over there. Isn't there an NFL game on? Didn't Chris Brown just beat another girl to the point of almost not being able to recognize her?

Ahh, gotta love our world. Don't you?

Good point. Nowadays getting busted gives street cred and with all the people that get busted here in the states on BS charges only adds to their popularity.

How rigged is this, really? Something tickled the back of my mind on this...and I'm not sure if this doesn't apply. If so, this was more staged than it first appears for the Congress people. Not for the others...they don't enjoy any such happy waiver.

They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

Source: ARTICLE I, SECTION 6, CLAUSE 1

That's from the US Senate website for being a good source.

If the In-Session and to/from doesn't cover it ...it would seem the speech and debate in either house for questioning in another place, would.

100% show ...for them. A charge to deal with for everyone else? Hmmm....

In my opinion, this is being done for two primary reasons. Forcing immigration "reform" that is. The government is seeking to fulfill it's own socialistic prophecy. It has created so many handout programs here in America that there isn't enough actual need to justify them and the numbers get really tricky when anyone with the knowledge starts asking questions. The solution? Granting millions of illegals, some of which are here with just the clothes on their backs citizenship and automatically qualifying them for said programs.

What goes along with socialist agenda? Progressives, Liberals? The answer is yes and those in that boat either holding seats in office or aspiring to office know full well that those on government handouts will vote which way exactly? Democrat, surprise!!! It's silly to think that this has anything to do with humanitarian issues, the US government didn't care about Mexican rights when they settled on half of their country to end the Mexican American war. They don't care about the rights of the thousands of innocent people they kill in collateral damage drone strikes every year. Why do they care about quality of life issues for Mexicans?

Quality of life and speaking of how about not evicting somebody from the house or property they have lived in all their lives because they owe a few thousand dollars in property tax, long after they have paid off the deed. When the government starts coming up with programs that stop doing sadistic and mind boggling things like this on a large scale, then you can say they care about human rights. They don't so don't bother hoping to ever use that argument.

If this ever does go through, you can forget about all the Americans just scraping by on minimum wage, those types of jobs will become almost non existent but then again, they are almost that way already in certain industries.

It becomes about a couple things in my book at the end of the day. Core American values and the rule of law. Obama has stated that he will not negotiate "under threat" well, fair enough but why should he expect others to negotiate with him under threat because by not enforcing the laws that are on the books willfully he is telling those that oppose this radical change that it's going to happen if they like it or not and as proof, the federal government and it's branches will be forced to stand down from the law until it does.

That said, coming from a president who is whining about congress raising the debt ceiling and it being their obligation who only a few short years before said as a congressman that raising the debt ceiling was a sign of leadership failure, what should I really expect eh?
