OK I swear. I was going to take a break until I saw this. Good grief, we need to move the entire Political Madness forum over to Jokes and Puns.

Debt Ceiling Humor: "I Therefore Intend To Oppose The Effort To Increase America's Debt Limit"

It's from ZeroHedge. They're pretty solid both nationally and internationally.

Pretty comical, sickening and unsurprising all at the same time, if true.

More at the following link:

Annotating Obama’s 2006 speech against boosting the debt limit

The Summary:

This is why many Americans hate politics.

The young senator from Illinois presumably did not want to buck the rest of his party establishment in voting for increasing the debt limit — not when there were just enough Republicans willing to support a president from their own party. But Obama would be on much more solid ground today if he had given a speech back in 2006 that sounded more like his news conference in 2013.

For making an argument that the president now decries as politics, he earns the upside-down Pinocchio, signifying a major-league flip-flop. (We have rarely given this ruling, but are eager for other examples from readers.)

Anyone surprised?

I thought that everyone had gotten the memo?

Obama is a centrist republican.

He has always been.

"Obamacare" no matter what else it is, is a huge corporate
tax cut / corporate bailout for the insurance industry.

I know there is a big "D" on this back.

Like that matters much.

I frequently talk to my friend who is 67.

As he remembers 'Republicans' from earlier

in this life, Obama is MORE conservative than

many old school republicans.

He also says, "I don't recognize hardly any of those
guys as being republicans.. they are something else".

Of course the moniker Republicrat seems to fit

more all the time.

FYI, I thought Rachel Maddow had confirmed that
memo you have a copy of.. but I don't have that
reference handy.

This isn't even politics anymore.

Politics used to be stuff that was just too boring for anyone else to care about.

Now its become a scene so ridiculous you just want to grab the first politician you see and put them over your knee. My parents used to let me chose which belt i wanted the spanking with. These politicians couldn't even decide on that with out flip flopping.

It is, just review the Congressional Record for that day. March 16, 2006 Congressional Record

Senator Obama:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.

That sounds familiar no?

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.

Those were his word on the floor of the Senate....

Thanks for that ownbestenemy. So basically here we have indisputable fact that Obama is a partisan hack. Not that there was ever really much doubt.

But, the majority of Americans won't know about it because NO ONE in the MSM will even mention it - much less call him on it!

I implore every member of ATS, that dabbles in politics and political madness, to bookmark the Congressional Record. It is an invaluable resource to fact-check and to call out politicians; left or right; on their nonsense.

Use it. It is a resource!

But, no one will know (or remember) because NO ONE in the MSM will call him on it.

Why are we relying on the MSM to call out the President? Why don't we voice our grievances; as ascribed by the First Amendment? Waiting for the MSM to present this data is like waiting for the second coming....it will happen when it happens but those who believe present it as it will happen tomorrow.

Okay, forgive me for the theological comparison, but honestly, we do not need to wait for the MSM to validate what we already know. Take the reigns and be the self-governed, self-efficient citizen you were meant to be.

So sad when people get to realized that they have short term memories, if we are to gather all the lies, promises and declivous way that politicians get the population to vote for them we may find that they lie 100% of the time.

But because most people tend to have short term memories all this is forgotten in a matter of days or until another sex scandal hit the news.

Propaganda is such a powerful tool and most Americans have the time span of a 4 year old.

So what was that that you post it just now? he,he,he, I forgot. . .

The entire concept of putting aside their self-interest and acting
for the general good is a foreign concept in politics.

The whole lot does need a public bare-but spanking.

Wish we could get a constitutional amendment for THAT.

No budget? No debt limit increase? No feeding hungry children?

Bare but spanking: constitutionally mandated.

Not willing to risk that outcome? Then don't run for office.

I am not relying in the MSM but a good majority of Americans are. This is how the bam man and his minions get away with what they do. People aren't outraged because they don't know - because the MSM tells them everything the man does is wonderful. The fault of both sides yes - but, not the way it's supposed to work!

Maybe we can have them show this -

So now we can all agree that the 2 party system is a ruse designed to divide and conquer and that in reality it is one big fat party.

At the American taxpayers expense.

This "left" v's "right" crap is what landed you in the ship in the first place.

And yet some of you just cannot see it - now that's mind-control!!

Lol, I thought this might just be an Obama quote. He certainly sings a different tune these days. Maybe he "understands" the plan now? Perhaps he has been compromised. Go figure huh?
