Poll: Americans not happy about shutdown; more blame GOP

Republicans in Congress receive more of the blame for the shutdown: 44 percent of Americans blame them, while 35 percent put more blame on President Obama and the Democrats in Congress. These views are virtually the same as they were last week before the shutdown, when Americans were asked who they would blame if a shutdown occurred.

Polls: Republicans Blamed for Government Shutdown

Public opinion polls suggest that congressional Republicans will get most of the political blame in the wake of the partial shutdown of the U.S. government.

Most Americans Disapprove Of Shutting Down The Government Over Obamacare: Poll

The poll is yet another indication that the shutdown is bad politics for the Republicans, and more significantly, could alienate even those who support the Republicans' underlying position on the health care law

Poll: 72% Oppose Government Shutdown Linked to Health Care

n a rejection of congressional Republicans’ strategy, Americans overwhelmingly oppose undermining President Barack Obama’s health-care law by shutting down the federal government or resisting an increase in the nation’s debt limit, according to a poll released today.

Ben Stein Hammers Emily Miller Over GOP’s ‘Child in a Playground’ ‘Nonsense’

“We Republicans started out the idea of universal health care,” Stein declared. “We Republicans, in 1973, sent a message to Congress asking for universal health care. It was killed by Edward Kennedy for no good reason.” “It’s a perfectly good idea,” Stein said. He added that, if the GOP wants to prove that universal health coverage is a bad idea and the Affordable Care Act will not work, allow it to be fully implemented and ultimately “ruin the Democratic Party for generations.”

It all comes to down to spin.

Fact is, government needs to cut spending. They have to stop borrowing to fund a bloated government which is overflowing with waste, corruption and greed.

The dont need to raise the debt ceiling and dont need to "shut down government".

But they refuse.

They wont end the foreign empire or the growing domestic police state. This alone costs about $1.5 trillion a year.

Both sides are to blame.

They both want to continue the foreign empire. They both want foreign welfare. The both want the domestic police state and a giant domestic welfare state.

And neither Party will dare challenge our debt based monetary system aka the "Federal Reserve", which is destroying the value of our dollar on a daily basis.

2 million so far.

But just like voting, progressives have signed up multiple times.

The actual count is seven.

I don't believe the polls. So who cares.

The best poll I know of is the U.S. House.

All the Congressional districts (435) are just about equal by population.

Obviously, the majority of representatives represent the majority of the U.S. population.

No spin just straight numbers.

Simple.

I just don't understand.

Yes, Onslaught, this is what kills me about the Republican talking points regarding Obamacare. They were treating the crashing of the website as if that was proof that Obamacare was a failure. Either they are ignorant of how the internet works or they think the American people are.

That's just not true. If that were the case then the President would be Mitt Romney. The Republicans lost the run for the White House the past two years by both electoral vote AND popular vote. Furthermore, your oversimplification of this issue ignores many variable factors, such as less people voting in off-year elections as opposed to Presidential-year elections.

So, your response is in fact a victim of spin.

SkepticOverlord could break down how many people signed up to ATS on any given day, hour.

You'd think the federal government would have capabilities near to a privately-owned website.

I wonder why they (government) is not releasing the numbers?

I don't know...

Where I live if you have an Obama sticker on your car, you better have extra insurance and a car alarm. I haven't met one single person locally that blames the GOP or has warm feelings toward Obamacare.

I guess it's more liberal other places?

Voters have short memories by the next election most of them will have forgotten all about this.
What they will remember though is that they didn`t get their free healthcare to go along with their free obama phone.
I`m guessing that most obama supporters actually expected that they would be getting free healthcare, when they find out that they are going to have to pay for it they won`t be happy campers.

In the Ben Stein/Emily Miller link, Emily states:

“We control one-half of one-third of the government and we don’t want to see Obamacare implemented, which is happening today,” Miller said in an effort to justify the shutdown. “So, let’s do what we can.”

Okay, so 1/2 of 1/3 of the gov't... that is 1/6th of the total pie. 16.67%, so less than 20% think it is okay to force their will?

Even if they had control of a third of everything, it is still the minority.

Regardless if it is a democracy or a republic, you're outta luck there not-so-cutie.

Simply love all her "reasons" too... any wonder why political comics LOVE the fringe?

Why do you think "most Obama supporters" think they are getting free healthcare? And there's no such thing as an "Obamaphone."

Wrong. It's 100% correct.

The district votes are counted one for one. No electoral college.
Split ticket voting is allowed you know.

The populations of each district all look pretty close on this chart....
113th Congressional Districts ACS 2012 Demographic

The average population of each district is apprx 711,000
Do the math.
711,000 x 233 (R) = 165,663,000
711,000 x 206 (D) = 146,466,000
unless of course you can find a table that shows otherwise
