Everybody really knows why the GOP tea party hates government, DON'T WE?

A House minority from white districts want to destroy the first black president, and the GOP majority abets them

www.salon.com...
By Joan Walsh

On the day the Affordable Care Act takes effect, the U.S. government is shut down, and it may be permanently broken. You’ll read lots of explanations for the dysfunction, but the simple truth is this: It’s the culmination of 50 years of evolving yet consistent Republican strategy to depict government as the enemy, an oppressor that works primarily as the protector of and provider for African-Americans, to the detriment of everyone else. The fact that everything came apart under our first African-American president wasn’t an accident, it was probably inevitable

BECAUSE IT WAS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT FINALLY SUPPORTED THE RIGHTS OF BLACK PEOPLE IN THE 60’S THROUGH FEDERAL LEGISLATION.

Indeed, under President Kennedy then President Johnson federal legislation was enacted to attempt to right the economic and political emasculation of Afro Americans that precipitated practically ALL southern democrats abandoning the democratic party and joining the reactionary Republican party that used racism as a wedge to get white votes ever since. This is termed The Southern Strategy: en.wikipedia.org...

www.salon.com...
People talk about the role of race in Richard Nixon’s “Southern Strategy”: how Pat Buchanan and Kevin Phillips helped him lure the old Dixiecrats into the Republican Party permanently. Far less well known was the GOP’s “Northern Strategy,” which targeted so-called white ethnics – many of them from the Catholic “Sidewalks of New York” like my working-class family, in the words of Kevin Phillips. Without a Northern Strategy designed to inflame white-ethnic fears of racial and economic change, Phillips’ imaginary but still influential notion of a “permanent Republican majority” would have been unimaginable.

There is no modern country in the world that existentially hates their government but in America. In Europe you don’t hear people en mass harangue against “government” like the Neanderthal and racist Republican Tea Party in America because those countries don’t have a tradition of racism where the Federal government at one point became the only institution that enacted legislation that defended the rights of AA and subsequently other minorities to ameliorate the effects of racism and also began programs that attempted to right the wrongs of economic oppression of Afro Americans particularly.

In short WHITE FOLKS DON’T LIKE THE IDEA OF BLACK PEOPLE GETTING A SINGLE DIME OF THEIR TAX MONEY!
It's in reality that primal and basic, unfortunately for the country.

“The principal force which broke up the Democratic (New Deal) coalition is the Negro socioeconomic revolution and liberal Democratic ideological inability to cope with it,” Phillips wrote. “Democratic ‘Great Society’ programs aligned that party with many Negro demands, but the party was unable to defuse the racial tension sundering the nation.” Phillips was not trying to defuse that tension, far from it – he was trying to lure those white ethnics to the GOP (although he later broke with the party he helped create.) But his Northern Strategy truly came to fruition in 1980, with the election of Ronald Reagan. Where Nixon swept the South, Reagan was able to take much of the North and West, too.

Finally, Ms. Walsh sums up this issue with this:

I loved Chris Matthews’ book “Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked,” but as I said in my interview with him, I think he let Reagan off the hook when it came to race. Ronald Reagan picked up the political baton passed to him by Barry Goldwater and Pat Buchanan, and played his role with genial gusto. Reagan had trafficked in ugly racial stereotyping over the years, about “young bucks” buying T-bone steaks with food stamps and Cadillac-driving welfare queens. But the Reagan who got elected president was better at using deracialized language to channel racial fears and resentment. He and his strategists had succeeded in making government synonymous with “welfare,” and “welfare” synonymous with lazy people, most of them African-American.

Unfortunately in our great country people want to avoid the ugly reality of racialism and the corrosive effect it has had and is still having on our society.

In the end, this will destroy this country, UNLESS high minded, honest, and brave people
LOOK IN THEIR HEARTS FOR THE TRUTH

The race card??? You're really playing it?? The shut down is because the Republicans all hate black people?? Oh come on. The shut down is because of Obamacare and Obama's severe lack of ability to work with both sides of the aisle. It's just that simple.

'race card'. Pfffft ....

How you found a way to wind racism into the story of the shutdown is one of those things I'll spend the rest of the day in wonderment over.

If ever there were two subjects I wouldn't have thought could be connected, even by media today, it was those two. I can say, for the moment, I really have seen everything ....until the next thread comes up, anyway. lol

Lets see.... Obamacare.

- It has a "black" guy's name on it.. a No-no.
- Republicans think he is a Muslim... a No-no.
- A democrat proposed healthcare (which is better than what is currently available).. a No-no.

All these combined....

Government shutdown!

You don't know much about Europe do you?

I think this is where your argument falls down. Many countries do, existentially or not, hate their governments.

If the US is the only country that has a citizenship that dislikes their government, how do you explain all the coups that have taken place over the years? The revolutions that overthrew their governments?

The Arab Spring? The current situation in Syria?

On the contrary, disliking your government is not an american thing.

As to the shutdown being race based, I think you're just trying to turn government stupidity into something it isn't. Are their republicans who aren't happy that there's a black man in the white house? No doubt. Is it a party wide hatred of black people? Absolutely not.

You haven’t even read the post, unless you are a speed reader.

Particularly read the end and learn something beyond your automatic response mechanism, when the word Black, racism, America is mentioned in the same paragraph you respond with the " race baiting" canard
As if racism never existed in America.

People aren’t stupid, use your logic.

Racist, as the article from Salon mentions, is now inside of all kinds of code words that Republicans utilize to message their racism.

This is an established fact,

Another fact or facts is this:
Obama care is for the poor who can’t afford health insurance.
WHO IN THIS COUNTRY ARE MOSLTY THE POOR?

Black and brown people!

You really can't get much lower, than calling people racists because they disagree with you or your political policies, except maybe to start calling them "terrorists". Whoops that is already happening......

Those whom are creating the racial divisions in this country by calling everyone a racist without any proof are doing more to create racism just so that they can hide behind their political dishonesty, than helping it!

But I must applaud you, because you are showing your desperation by making up ridiculous accusations, which in turn is helping to embarrass the few critical thinking members that are still part of your party to actually become aware of just how bad they have been used.

I admit I haven't.

I got to the bit where you said America is the only place to existentially hate it's government and gave up. If that's one of the core arguments then the rest will also likely be flawed.

Straw man.

You are trying to pull the race card where it doesn't belong.
So in fact you are HURTING race relations in this country instead of helping it.
Crying 'race problem' where there isn't one ... that's no different than crying wolf.

Of course it is not a party wide hatred, but a good chunk hates his due to his skin colour is more than obvious and it defiantly plays a role in the overall hatred for the Obama-care(including the fact that it has a mandatory and socialist-like).

Check out one of the thread where people ark asked "which is better? Obama-care or Affordable Act"....replies?

Obama-care is "unamerican" and Affordable care "more American" lol....its like they hate because it has his name on it.

Propaganda goes a long way.

Hating government is what made America great. Selling out over a hundred years ago is what ruined it.

Not enough people hate government.

Everytime you have to ask permission you should be boiling.
Everytime somebody uses "because I said so" you should be fuming.
Everytime somebody says "its the law" you should be screaming.

When a body approves or denies it's tyranny.

You are ignorant of modern and past history. Your head is in the sand and you deny the obvious.

Just because issues are tinged with racialism under the surface and it's brought out doesn't mean it isn't truth in it because you feel uncomfortable.

That’s totally false and ignorant.

THEY HATED BAD GOVERNMENT.

You have been manipulated and brainwashed like a monkey on a string.

Your mentality is just what the Koch brother’s bred in you.

One should always mistrust and challenge government but when government does good to help the downtrodden, to call that evil to me is the height of folly.

You anti-government people amaze me.
Black people, who have been the greatest victims of this government never get any help from the so called anti-government movement.
WHY?

When you're losing the argument, resorting to race-baiting, mud-slinging appears to be the last act of a desparate person.

Your validity is in serious jeopardy at this point. (In my humble opinion)

Dead wrong.

YOU fail to make the case the shut down happened because the Republicans all hate blacks. You provided an emotional straw man statement .. that racism exists therefore it's the only reason the government could have been shut down ... to try to blanket your poorly thought out premise.

Provide credible facts to back up your statement. Show some information showing that
the Republicans in DC are all racist and that is why the gov't shut down .. and that is why
Obamacare is WIDELY hated by the majority of the American public.

Otherwise, it's just more of the usual willtell blame-the-right-for-everything-wrong rhetoric.

Willtell

THEY HATED BAD GOVERNMENT.

THen they'd hate the Obama administration.
It's as corrupt as the day is long.
And it's more invasive than the British government that the founding fathers ditched.

There's a difference?

Government is like HIV. Sure it might not be full blown AIDS yet but that doesnt make it good.
