The Jacksonville International Airport has been evacuated due to "police activity" regarding suspicious packages.

The airport posted the information on its official Twitter feed Tuesday evening. The Tweet did not give any other details. A telephone call to the airport went straight to voicemail.

Jacksonville Airport Evacuated Over Packages

This story is still developing at this time.

Several planes are being diverted to other airports as well as passengers from inbound flights being bused to offsite hotels for now.

Hopefully this turns out to be someone just being nervous and noticing an innocent package somewhere it should not be.

It appears this all started around 6 p.m. EST.

There are also reports that a man has claimed that he had a bomb there as well.

Latest update is that one package is in the terminal and another in the parking garage.

Enforcement officials on seen have not as of yet been able to closely examine the packages.

-Edit- Some footage has recently come out of officials escorting a man off one of the planes there as well.

Good job sharing this news, I was a bit surprised when I first heard about this more than a half hour ago and still hadn't seen a thread pop up on here. I'm sure it will turn out to be nothing as it always does, but is it just more or does standard operating procedure for this event to seem more hype?

Could it be a political move to make things seem like more than it really is just to try to get the MSM briefly to focus on something other than the government shutdown.

There was a suspicious package spotted at Tinker Airforce Base in Oklahoma City earlier today as well. Heard the bomb squad was checking it out, but that was the last bit of info I received. May try googling it.

That is a lot of canceled arrivals at the airport.

www.flightstats.com...

A lot of canceled departures to.

www.flightstats.com...

No inmate intake for the Jacksonville Sheriffs office for the 1st.

inmatesearch.jaxsheriff.org...(S(wkbshjrmu2lpax45a5rjog55))/PublicInSheetReport.aspx

Seems strange when you can't get much information.

I wonder if the cities being canceled mean anything? Miami, New York, Boston, Washington and Atlanta?

Live webcam but you can not see anything going on.

Guess this webcam is on the hotel looking toward the parking garage. Beyond the parking garage is where the terminals are.

I am curious about this flight.

flightaware.com...

They never make night flights. This one flew from the airport to Tampa. Tampa is where the terrorism fusion center would be and the heart of the war on terror.

2 Devices were found, one was taken off site to be rendered safe. No word if it was terrorism related.

New story on this.

www.news4jax.com...

There were no departing or arriving flights during the closure, and the terminal was evacuated, said Michael Stewart of JAA.

Then what was this a secret rendition flight were not supposed to know about?

This is strange. They found two packages which the bomb squad investigated but could not determine what was IN them? Isn't that what the bomb squad does? So they then decided to cancel flights in AND out???? Why out?

Fla. Airport Reopens After 'Destructive' Device Found

abcnews.go.com...

"Hartley said one of the packages "had some destructive nature that it had to be taken offsite" but he did not elaborate."

Wonder if we will get more information, or will that be that.

The story is the guy tells TSA he has a bomb in his backpack, but doesn't. So they evacuate the airport, delay flights and cause chaos over nothing. Something is not right here. Imagine if they close every airport every time they have a 'suspicious' package or 'someone acting suspicious' whatever that means.

Bullocks to this story. My guess is they closed the airport for reasons that are undisclosed and used the 'bomb' threat as a cover.

Jacksonville International Airport is a joint civilian and military airport. The aircraft I mentioned earlier that made the flight from the airport to Tampa was a aircraft used through the GSA to fly federal and military and civilians around from the military base.

So we may never know what happened. But that flight to Tampa the heart of the war on terror is interesting. They even built a prison near Tampa for them to use for the war on terror. They once wanted to move Gittmo there but the ideal was shot down. Tampa has the fusion center located there. Not to mention SOCOM war on terror HQ.

So what was that night time flight during this event? From the records they never make night time flights.
