This is something that should never happen!!

Several people were reported injured when two trains running on Chicago Transit Authority’s Blue Line tracks collided Monday morning.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. at Harlem Avenue and Interstate 290 in the Forest Park branch when a westbound train was struck by an eastbound train heading towards the Loop, officials said.

New Update from RT news:

CBS News is reporting that police are investigating the possibility that the collision resulted because someone hijacked the out-of-service train.

The CTA told CBS that the train was on the wrong tracks when it rammed the on-duty car. Anthony Calderone, the mayor of Chicago suburb Forest Park , told CBS that nobody was at the controls when the train crashed.

yup, I think they're keeping mum about a terrorist attack to prevent panic.

Under CTA procedures, two trains are not supposed to be in the same spot and there is fail safe equipment in place to help make sure that crashes like this do not happen.

Sources, who caution that this is only a working theory, said who ever was driving the train was wearing a CTA uniform and possessed the universal key required to start the train and had knowledge of the train's override systems.

According to Robert Kelly , the president of ATU 308, trains are equipped with sensors that indicate when collisions are about to occur. Officials suspect those sensors worked properly but were overridden from aboard the train.

The censors were probably broken. It may have been being test driven by a mechanic if it was considered out of service.

'Hi-jacking' of an out of service train could just mean that someone took it for a joyride or somehow gained access to it and set it going by mistake - doesn't necessarily have to mean it was terrorist related.

Or, indeed, it could have been a boring old points/signalling failure.

Official story is that no crimial activity is suspected

Edit: that it was a low speed collision also suggests no deliberate criminal/terrorist involvement (or maybe the terrorists didn't want to hurt anyone?)

Forest Park Station is the end of the line and "the jungle" is right next to it.

It just didn't have the time and/or opportunity to accelerate.

What kind of dingbat of an engineer would stupidly test a faulty train into a live and busy line?
