At Least 40 Dead After Boko Haram Militants Open Fire in College Dorm in Nigeria

Boko Haram gunmen have opened fire in a college dormitory in north-east Nigeria as students slept, killing at least 40 people, in the latest massacre blamed on the Islamist insurgents.

All of the dead are said to have been students of the College of Agriculture in the town of Gujba, some 30 kilometres from Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state.

The early morning attack was carried out by "Boko Haram terrorists who went into the school and opened fire on students" while they were sleeping, the military spokesman in Yobe, Lazarus Eli, told AFP.

An official at the Damaturu Specialist Hospital, who requested anonymity, said "40 bodies", all of whom appeared to be of university student age, had been received so far from Gujba

What a wonderful Sunday eh? A preacher gets shot at church and now this! 40 dead from the male dorm.
This movement Boko Haram led by Abubakar Shekau and his followers are behind the tragedy and are known for detesting Western education, it is what the term Boko Haram means.

Part of a pattern?
Since 2009, Boko Haram has sown murder and mayhem in Nigeria's northeastern region. The Islamic militant group's name translates from the local Hausa language as "Western education is a sin."
Boko Haram militants often target schools and churches. In 2011 and 2012, Christmas attacks were blamed on them.
Jonathan created a new wing of the military to specifically deal with the insurgency.
In May, Jonathan declared a state of emergency in three northeastern states. He cited "terrorists" who have caused a "a near breakdown of law and order."
One of the three states is Yobe, where Sunday's attack took place.
It was the third attack on a school in four months in Yobe.
The ongoing violence in this predominantly Muslim region has claimed thousands of lives.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have accused the military of committing atrocities against civilians.
During a May trip to the country, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Nigeria "has acknowledged that there have been some problems" and was "working to try to control it."

Western Ed is a sin, wow, some real hate, of the religious extreme kind. The 3rd attack in 4 months in this mostly muslim community.

In July in the town of Mamudo, Islamists threw explosives and sprayed gunfire into dormitories in the middle of the night, killing 41 students.

Presumed Boko Haram gunmen shot dead seven secondary school students and two teachers in Damaturu in June.

What a group of thugs who blatantly flex their terrorism. I will add more as it comes up.

The gunmen, thought to be members of rebel sect Boko Haram, attacked one hostel, took some students outside before killing them and shot others trying to flee, people at the scene told Reuters.

"They started gathering students into groups outside, then they opened fire and killed one group and then moved onto the next group and killed them. It was so terrible," said one surviving student Idris, who would only give his first name.
"They came with guns around 1 a.m. (2400 GMT) and went directly to the male hostel and opened fire on them ... The college is in the bush so the other students were running around helplessly as guns went off and some of them were shot down," said Ahmed Gujunba, a taxi driver who lives by the college.

Conservatives hate people getting edumacated- whether it's here or over there.

As a convert Muslim ,let me be the first to say ,please don't let these disgusting heartless people represent Islam in your eyes .... This makes me sick, somehow these groups bend hadith and suras to push some agenda !!

Total gun control there. Doesn't help much when the bad guys are the only ones with guns. These types of attacks will continue until the world says enough and takes strong action against these crazies.

Me too and this organization I was unaware of but man they are savage! I would hate to be in any western schools over there at all. How the hell can people think about studies after all of this? These schools I would actually favor having armed guards, which I did not think I would ever say.

Your words are spot on , i am currently working on a thread so that people will be more enlightend about this sort of stuff. I will list groups who are indeed "terrorist"hopefully so that people can see the sepration between a terror cell and true ISLAM forgive my grammar and spelling ,i am replying on my cell phone

Don't worry,all Muslims will never be judged by the actions of some twisted individuals-many many non-Muslims,myself included, has known some very fine Muslim folks,really kind,lovely folks who would never physically hurt anyone.In every basket(race,religion,culture,career and society) you get your good eggs,your bad eggs,and a few snake eggs,like these terrorists.

Islam has got to go

When Boko Haram seem to attack they do some serious damage and kill tons of innocent people. Does anyone think they have paid off people in the Nigeria government or have powerful people backing them outside of Nigeria, the reason I say that is because they seem to be pretty powerful, well funded, and armed to the teeth especially when they are in such a poor country with strict gun control. They seem to really love targeting innocent Christians and innocent people which is jut sick. In the past few weeks they have killed around 80 people and have killed over 500 people in the past few years. Here is a link detailing attacks done by BH since january 2012.

Does true Islam require women under viel and given no education and little household rights? Does it also require that animals be painfully bled to death to be consumed? Does it also say that those who are not Islamic are like animals? Does it require conversion to Islam of non Islamic even by threat of force or even death? Does Saudi Arabia represent True Islam? If all these are true, then thanks for the inputs and now please GO AWAY from my face !!

Two most horrifying religions in the world: Christianity and Islam can be held accountable for 90% of the wars and murders in last 1000 years. Seems Christianity has gotten its thinking little if not totally.........straight, but Islam is still in 16th Century mindset.

To be honest, if 40 muslims were killed in the west, we would surely hear form the whole muslim communion.
But never have i seen any condemnation from muslims about all these killings by muslim extremist, not even the slightest commitment to put an end to this sick behavior.
The only interest seems to be a sharia state where ever they live so they can kill any non muslim because if sharia is the law they can do that without being prosecuted.

I feel ya, but "must go" will never occur for it is too big of a religion and too far reaching with 1.6 billion(23% of population)followers. I think it is better for some type of organization within the religion to condemn those that carry out and promote these actions, and do what it takes to prevent such actions.

They are about to Islam as Fred Phelps is to Christianity. As in they are not what traditional Muslims. In fact Muslims are often their target as they are seen as heretics. So unless you think Christianity should go because of cults like the Branch Davidians then please stop being silly.

From 1950s to 1990s there was a look out, atleast in the West, for the Red Commies. By 1991, Red Commies finally accepted the natural faults in their theories and abandoned them in a hurry.

In the 21st Century the new look out, all over the world, should be for Green Islamics. Not regular moderate Islamics but those who carry the Green flag of religious fascism and fanaticism. They do no good to anyone and spread destruction, death and hate all over the world. Pure Evilness on the loose !!

Countries like US, UK, Western Europe and others, should outright refuse to give visas to common individuals from certain countries. Even if visas are given to diplomats and business or medical needs types, these visitors should be required to report each single day regarding where they are and where they went during the day. If there are any discrepancies in the daily summary, these visitors will be put into the next flight home.

Reagan's hardline helped alot in making commies change the track. Same hardline is need now on the fanatics.

So you would like the nightly news to say, today like every day 99.9% of the worlds billion Muslims went about their daily buisness without being terrorists. In other news this week 99.9% of Americans did not conduct a mass shooting. And in our final story 99.9% of people on Earth had an average day.

If you have a group that targets schools that could be considered western education.. well then you find ways to prepare for that. Since similar attacks have happened four times.. doesn't it seem like they should lock down good at night and have heavily armed guards. This might be a school where allowing the students to be armed isn't such a bad idea.. of course students would need heavy background checks to prevent members of the rebels from getting on the inside.

Also.. take down any signs for male dorms, put them on a higher floor, etc. Seems like this should not have happened. Not while they slept, the school should have protected them better.
