Interesting take on Fukushima.
It seems that through FOIA requests a clearer picture of what's going has been revealed.
And while the worse case scenario of evacuation of 50 million people could of happened.
It was averted.
Seems we got lucky.

On a heavily guarded campus east of San Francisco stands Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one of the U.S. government’s premier scientific research facilities. Hours after a massive earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on March 11, 2011, a team of Livermore scientists mobilized to begin assessing the danger from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. The 40-odd team members include physicists, meteorologists, computer modelers, and health specialists. Their specialty is major airborne hazards—toxic matter from chemical fires, ash from erupting volcanoes, or radioactive emissions.

The scientists’ work—secret at the time and barely known to the public even today—had an enormous impact on Japan’s nuclear crisis, averting a potentially disastrous U.S. overreaction. This tale reveals significant new information about the accident's severity and affords a different perspective on events at Fukushima, which have generally been portrayed as a near Armageddon.

If you get cancer instead of getting shot, does it mean you are lucky?
The outcome of the ongoing crisis of Fukushima is uncertain, and only time will tell if we are getting "lucky" with this disaster.

Depends on whether it's curable or not.

And there's always tumeric to get rid of the cancer.

I'd have to agree. Fukushima has gotten very markedly worse in just the last 6-8 weeks between the underground water leakage into open ocean water and of course..what is happening down there, anyway? Something is active again....

This is a book with many chapters left to be written ..and quite possibly some after we're all gone from old age by how it's shaping up for a long term feel.

Right. Inevitable substantial increase in global cancer rates is getting "lucky".

Just because something doesnt manifest in the worst possible way imaginable, does NOT mean you "got lucky".

And there's always tumeric to get rid of the cancer.

Right...

And dont forget to put your shaving razor under the pyramid when you are done with it too....

"Seems we got lucky. " too quote from the article,,
1. When the Helicopters were dumping Sea Water on an open fuel pool,, from, 300 ft in the air,, too keep the fuel pool, from, going Critical,, in 30 min. guys,,,cause thats what the sensors on the RadioActive USS (Insert Aircraft carrier name),, were showing in real time,, so ya they we, the world "got lucky".
cause it didnt go big boom, like all the science said it should have ,,it only went "little poop" remeber, has tummy ache,, thats all,,,
so ya we got lucky.

So most of us here at ATS distrust anything the Govt. releases but info about Fukushima is to be believed if it comes from livermore? What BS!

As others have said...It will be generations until we will know the genetic damage cause by Fukushima.

Ok sure.

I guess we have a different definition of lucky.

btw. did anyone bother to read the article?

Remember, most people will believe whatever is convenient towards supporting what they WANT to be true/real, regardless of who it comes from, regardless of if they have denounced that source in the past or not, regardless of if that source is an habitual and serial lier, etc.

People believe what they want to believe. SOME want to believe the evidence, and that usually leads them to conclusions counter to what MOST want to believe, which is whatever sounds peachy at the time.

This story smacks of a feel-good-happy-fairytale-"nothing to see here"-ending-cover-story for what the evidence says is actually going to be a catastrophic negative variable for the planet to contend with over the coming decades.

So yeah, everyone, just sit back, take a deep breath... trust your benevolent gubmint, and know that everything is just fine and dandy, "we got lucky", and theres nothing to worry about ever again.

Just dont stop going to work or paying your taxes.

You are correct sir.

This is why we keep getting all those "Hey look this rock on mars is proof of life on the red planet threads."

People will see whatever they want to see.

From being an avid contributor for many many months in the now closed monster Fukushima thread....I don't feel lucky.

Nor, do I feel the world will have that as a final assessment years down the road, when the real implications of the horror that was, is being dealt with by our children and their children. I can only assume by lucky, you mean we didn't witness all the dominoes falling in rapid fire, all at once. No, this is the dominoes falling in slow motion...over time. Doesn't mean they didn't fall...it's just taking longer. Radiation lasts a long long long time.

Lucky you say? I say you are looking for the easy answer to an ongoing unimaginable question. Will we survive, as the species we are now.

That we can agree on.

I cant believe how many flags those threads get... Ive looked at them... I see nothing definitive.

I guess its the same as millions seeing some deities face on a piece of burnt toast.

"Will we survive, as the species we are now."

if by that u mean ,,IF it goes bad while removing the fuel cells/rods,, like they dont get a 5.0 earthquake ,,etc,,,and Criticality Starts, and decides too go all " Mouse Trap Ping-Pong Ball " excited, Boom, and tears an new one in, the Fault line , which runs downward too Fugi, and blows a big , fit, and, etc,,,
then ya pretty bad for the "species"

I really like the Article because it give the Input and Sources to correct
wrong Informations of many here and there!

It is very difficult to discuss this Accident in a Conspiracy Forum
where all is bad, a lie and Disinformation but we cant deny Physical Facts
like the low Radiation Count here in Kanto and in Tohoku.

I said it already many Times but do it one more Time:
"We had and have incredible Luck until today and i hope it will continue"!

Evacuation:
Stress-induced deaths in Fukushima top those from 2011 natural disasters

The number of deaths in Fukushima Prefecture caused mainly by stress from the nuclear disaster reached 1,539 at the end of August, almost equaling the 1,599 fatalities due directly to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, the Mainichi Shimbun has learned.

Mainichi Source:

It seams like that 1% get killed because of the Evacuation,
here in Tokyo-Megapolis we have ca. 40-45.000.000 People,
i hope everyone understand what i am thinking but imo.
it was right to not officially call for a Evacuation of this Place!
(But many left, incl. us at least for a short period of time)

"it was right to not officially evacuate this Place! " well said,, the Japan of Spirit and Determination can overcome all forces, of nature , in the true spirit of the ancestors who prepared the Japan of today, too withstand, radiation poisioning, because it was already started too build up in there systems from there parents times,,the strong survive,, evelutionary development, in a living lab so too speak,, kind of Umbrella-isk.

I've not heart anything reliable about Radiation Sickness or small evaluated Levels of Radiation
in Tokyo, Chiba, Yokohama People!

But i saw a few Results of Laboratory Check Ups done by a few Friends
after they evacuated to their Home-country like Sweden, Germany, Poland
and Austria.

None of them had any Problem with Radioactive Contamination.

In the case you have Source please show us

aye.

I think from now on I gotta treat every thread like tabloid news.
It's doom and gloom no matter how good the news is.

Yes, I read the article. I did not take "we got lucky" away from it, however. I find it reprehensible and in absolute dereliction of duties that Obama and his command decided to play chicken with US citizens in Japan, risking their lives (and very likely still doing them great harm which has not yet even manifested), all over some bullcrap ideal of diplomacy. I was quite sickened by that revelation, as prior to reading this article I was actually of the belief that the US leadership's position that everything was OK was based mostly on doe-eyed optimism. Now we see that it was merely a diplomatic decision with little to no scientific evidence to support an optimistic outlook.

As far as i remember nearly all Army-Families evacuated from Kanto (Tokyo)
and they done it mostly with Army Planes, so they was not left "alone"!

Thousands of active Soldiers started the "Operation Tomodachi" and saved
countless Lives and they get my fullest Respect & Gratitude
(something i normally do not have for Soldiers)
for their Service and Rescue Mission!
