No doubt all the rah-rah USA!, USA! folks would feel exactly the same way if it were the case of a Chinese or Russian UAV nearing US airspace and some American pilot getting pwned by his Chinese or Russian counterpart who had made use of a hack in the avionics of the made-in-China electronics on the US craft.

Speaking of laughs and the Russians and Chinese, no doubt the leadership of these two countries have long been having yuck fests over all the resources the US continues to squander on attempting to project military power far from the US homeland. Yessirree, top gun 'Murika is sitting tall in the global saddle. Yee-haw!

And if Hezbollah is a proxy force of Iran, then it is quite likely that Iran will as handily deal with the US should the US attempt to attack it, as Hezbollah dealt with Israel in the last war in Lebanon; the difference being that the US would have a much longer line of communications and supply to maintain than Israel has had to deal with. Not to mention that the US fleet in the Persian Gulf will be a sitting duck; the primary defense of carrier task forces is their locations not being known by the enemy. Good luck with that in the Persian Gulf.

Yet jingoistic 'Murikens continue to regurgitate their Top-Gun propaganda pablum, courtesy of Hollywood and the Pentagon. No doubt Tom Cruise, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenneger will all be kicking butt and taking names when the US finally bows to its Zionist pay masters and takes on Iran.

If any of them could pull it off (they can't currently) then more power to them.

You have watched way to many movies your grasp of military reality is funny. There not going to hack the avionics system thats just silly. Carrier task forces main defense isnt hiding trust me there not good at hiding. And you really think a carrier task force is a sitting duck are you for real? Wow guy trust me wheni say a carrier task force has the ability to put more firepower in an area then most countries have.

Yes, obviously I have been watching too many movies because I was the one who started this tread about a US pilot pulling a Top Gun maneuver on an Iranian pilot. NOT. Moreover, last time I checked, I hadn't noticed a lot of movies coming out of Hollywood that have spotlighted the obsolescence of aircraft carriers, or even second-tier countries and insurgencies fighting advanced, industrial nations to a stand still. It's always about a few US special ops guys killing bushels of inferior troops from other countries, or one US flyboy taking on some other country's air force.

Indeed, staying hidden is a carrier's best defense because it is susceptible to torpedoes and missiles -- just as carriers were quite susceptible to bombs during WWII. The best defense is not to be a target in the first place. Sure, carriers and their escorts have phalanx gatling guns systems and newer, more sophisticated anti-missile systems and ECM, but if you think counter measures to these defenses haven't been developed or aren't being developed, then I have a dozen nuclear-powered US carriers to sell you.

Take a look at the Persian Gulf and the surrounding geography. Then take a look at the Pacific ocean. They're quite different, i.e. one is much smaller and is bordered on one side by the primary potential adversary. This adversary is getting surface-to-surface missile systems from China, and China has been putting a bit of thought and effort into how to most effectively take out US carriers. Generals and admirals are generally planning for the next war based on the last war -- particularly when they were victorious in the last war. What happened in WWII? Sea-based aircraft and their carriers made capitol ships obsolete. Missiles, drones and modern torpedoes are about to do the same to aircraft carriers -- particularly when they are placed in small bodies of water close to an enemy's ground-based surface-to-surface missiles and other possible weapons systems (low-silhouette, high-speed boat drones with a large payload, anyone?).

And yes, the US's enemies and rivals will be yucking it up when four and a half billion dollars worth of US carrier is sunk with perhaps a million dollars' worth of ordinance.

ill explain it this way in world war 2 carrier defense did involve hiding your carriers just like the movies. But in todays world you can hide a 20 foot boat much less an entire fleet. So how do we protect our carriers well 2 things first one being any country that attacked a US carrier can guarantee there country will be radioactive. But more importantly because this threat only works with countries that actually care about its people. Then comes in part two carriers have countermeasures as well as the escort ships. A missile reaching a carrier is very unlikely sinking it even less likely.Air defense its hard for a bird to get near a carrier expecialy if the phalanx is on at the time. Boats no threat because as soon as theirs a counter launch there is a counter launch straight back to the source. You could use a sub but the only 2 countries that might be able to pull it off wouldnt do to the fact we have subs trailing there carriers. And if the strike force was on full alert dont believe even they can pull it off in an open ocean since there wouldnt be traffic for the sub to hide.

And yet, China and Russia both are building and planning on building a carrier fleet.

It's interesting that this incident has been accepted as truth without any evidence. I'm not suggesting it didn't happen, as it's perfectly plausible, but this board is notoriously questioning of unsubstantiated claims hinting at foreign aggression - unless, it seems, there's a rad flight move involved by an American pilot.

It's almost like people are a bit selective about what they choose to believe.

I have no trouble believing it, because it was a standard intercept, just like is made on aircraft all over the world day in and day out.

Again, the intercept was performed exactly as written by every air force in the world, so why is this one "hot dogging"?

If it wasn't hot dogging and unusal, it wouldn't be news, would it?

Intercepts are carried out every single day. If this was SOP, we'd not be talking about it.

You mean the way the news doesn't cover Russian bombers intercepted over Guam, and try to claim they were armed with nuclear weapons? Or how they don't cover Russian bombers intercepted around Europe? Or they don't cover Chinese aircraft around the Senkaku Islands?

The only reason we even know what happened is because General Welsh, the Air Force Chief of Staff told about it to some people and the media was there.

Using the weapons radar to lock onto even a drone is Hostile intent even against a drone aircraft.
The Iranian F4Es carry a Chinese weapons control radar that is detectable by US aircraft.

Yea, they would be jammed, unable to communicate, and face a wall of lead that would shred em to pieces before they got anywhere near us
.Chinese and Russians too.

This was American payback for the incident that took place several years ago, where 2 Iranian MIG-29s surprised and warned 4 US F/A-18s flying over PG by sneaking behind them and warning them to leave. The incident was never reported by western MSM.

Here is a real top gun incident that happened in 1984 between American piloted Saudi F-15s (ONE OF THEM WAS A US MASTER PILOT NAMED BILL TIPEAN), French Mirages and Iranian F-4s and F-14s. This incident was vaguely reported by western MSM and this CG animation is made from gathered data from Iranian listening posts and Pilots them selves plus radar data showing fully the incident. After this incident US semi-officially entered the war against Iran on behalf of Iraq.

I have to add that the Iranian top-gun ace and world best fighter pilot and also a master top-gun teacher (thought many US top-gun pilots in the 1970s in US) flew the leader F-14 wing. His name is Commander Abbas Babaee AND HE WAS THE LEADER OF THE f-14 WINGS IN THIS INCIDENT..

THIS IS HOW A REAL TOP GUN FIGHT IS.

USE "CC" FOR THE ENGLISH SUB. CLICK ON CC IN THE VIDEO AND CHOOSE ENGLISH TO GET THE SUBS OF THIS UNBELIEVABLE EVENT.

This is the altered, faked and changed western MSM version of the incident reported.

That event happened in 1984 and is based on facts from recorded voices of the pilots from listening stations, radar and pilot data of an unbelievable dog fighting incident that was so shocking. Thats what a a master top-gun pilot teacher and world best fighter pilot and number top-gun do the less experienced pilot.

Commander Abbas Babaee had even been threatened by death from Iraq and upon his death, US pentagon send a memo to Iran to condole the death and he was dubbed the youngest general by pentagon.

He had many missions and Saddam was so pissed that he had put money and ordered his assassination.

It was after this event that orders were given by Iraq to its pilots to never engage Iranian F-14s in combat and if an F-14 was in the vicinity to leave.

THIS EVENT CAUSE THE US NAVY TO PUT THE IRANIAN F-14 ON MAJOR DANGER LIST AND ORDERS WERE GIVEN TO NO US NAVY FIGHTERS TO NOT ENGAGE THEM IN BATTLE. US CONSIDERED F-14S THE BEST FIGHTER EVER UNTIL THE INTRODUCTION OF F-22 RAPOTOR. AS ANSWER TO ITS THREAT AND USE BY IRAN.

today the Iranian Tomcats known in as "Persian-cats" are deadlier then ever. Radar-reducing paints, new more advance missiles and one called "FAKOUR" to replace the world deadliest AAM the mighty phoenix that did most of the kills in the battles. Upgraded electronics and weapons has made the IRIAF F-14 into a new bird more deadly then ever and still a nightmare to any foe.
