This one was right over top of me in Louisville, Ky. I am with you...why so many all of the sudden? Our meteorologist on our news station here said it is not uncommon.

Here is a pic of the one sighted in Louisville. (from the news not my pic)

that pic is stunning, thanx for posting!

It is beautiful but it has nothing to do with last night's meteor. It's a stock photo.

Some sites I'm reading are saying that there IS an increase, some are just saying that it's an increase in reporting, so it's hard to tell.

I'm going with more reporting is more meteorites.

I know.
They are both really nice pictures though. That's why they show up in relation to just about every fireball report.

Is that not, misleading reporting?? I am angry now at them. The only "real" pic I can find is the traffic camera picture which is horrible quality and you cannot see it.

Yes... it is...They do it all the time.

If there is no actual picture, use a stock photo.

Well they should have to tell people or put "stock photo" somewhere.

I heard the mention of a marked increase in reports since 2005. That with coincide with large scale adoption of camera and video phones. Sure they were around before then, but around 2005 the price of camera phones came down quite a bit.

We travel through the same area in space every year.

So, our solar system does not travel through different space as the galaxy moves?

I thought the same thing. I would be interested to hear what phage has to say about that. Our solar system is moving at 100000 mph, inside a galaxy that is also moving through space, while our univerese is also expanding according to astronomers. So that would mean, on a macro level, that Earth never has or never will be in the same place more than once.

More reports does not equal more meteors.

I'm sorry but that is beyond silly. Isn't it just as possible more people are reporting them because more people arre seeing them because more are occuring? That is such a weak argument. I am not saying that more reports indicates (exclusively) that more meteors are occuring but is sure as hell doesn't prove your point either.

More people just looking up then, for no reason?

Not because the russian meteor, not because of shows like metorite hunters, etc?

Must be baloney, becuse it wants to be real.

Apart from that, it could be tho.
