I never posted but read and S+F last night very late, so this is really interesting to a number of field's if a method to cheaply replicate the effect can be replicated then a number of new transitional materials can be made, an entire branch of molecular physic's and a new alternative to polymer chemistry may have been opened up here assuming a macro molecular structure can be made from these light molecules, not sure I can wrap my head around this just yet though - cool.

Perhap's for fields have just become more possible and who know's what nano technological application's this has.

Something tells me they ought not do this. I can't explain why I feel this way, because I don't understand it myself. But something made my blood run cold reading that clip you posted.

You might be getting that feeling because something like this will probably be weaponized before it will be used for good. My mind goes to invisible bullets, or like I said a lightsaber would be sweet. Hope that made sense.

Perhaps this may lead to hard light holograms without the use of force feedback forcefields/haptics etc.

If Set right could potentially even create a masseffect type omni-tool with out the need for a mythical element with mass altering properties.

Or even be used to make TV's even larger without the frames. mmm....Porn on a 1000m screen Can't wait....

Although photons do not contain rest mass... they do however have potential mass more commonly known as relativistic mass

i was referring to rest mass. mc^2=e=hf is what you're referring to i believe. i should have been more specific.

Correct.. It is the equation for the mass equivalent of energy in a moving object (relativistic mass) and form part of the equations when calculating inertia when attempting to stop the object....

however... judging by the responses here, do you really think there are many that could read the equation, let alone contemplate the meaning?

Are you talking about the Saturn 5 rocket? (I think I read somewhere they lost the plans for it or something.) My Uncle Fred worked on that thing! Unfortunately he's dead now, so he can't help them out.

I Just saw something while bored, decided to watch the following vid on you tube.



about 50 min in Dan Akroyd starts talking about two things that have recently been on ats and in the news.

First Dan talks about Photonic matter... Being able to make molecules that have no mass, as being how UFO's operate (something I didn't even know was a topic in UFO circles)

AND Bob Lazar's mysterious super mass having element, the new element 115.. Which scientist have just recently...

Now I know this thread is about a NEW technology break through, just watching the vid the two threads on ATS, this one and the One on element 115 both just clicked...

Considering some behaviors of gyroscopes, making one out of light might prove to be rather interesting.

If you can take photons and manipulate them into acting like/becoming matter, then there is probably little limit on the TYPE of matter they can become given an accurate enough physical description of the item or items you want.

The molecular replicators of StarTrek fame become reality. Hunger and want for material items goes away. A nearby replicator can produce anything you want from photos of LIGHT if not atoms of matter (or both).

The impact on the world would be immense and almost inconceivable. We may have stumbled on the mechanism from which God called the worlds into existence.

Scientists need to be extremely careful with this technology until it's understood. What if our forming photons into matter here means that permanent darkness is imposed on whole planets or whole solar systems someplace else? After all, the photons have to come from something/someplace?

Sorry to say that this has nothing to do with the Replicators...

Replicators use a kind of inert material... basically just molecular source material. The replicators are more akin to the transporters as they hold the molecular patterns of the desired object you wish to replicate.

The source material is used and the molecules reordered into what ever you want then materialize in exactly the same way the transporters work.

The closest thing we have to a replicator is a 3D printer.
