There is a thread currently on the front page that is taking issue with feeding the children (who are now legal) of illegal immigrants?

I find it repulsive for anyone to complain about feeding children (irrespective of their origin), the elderly, the infirm, and the less fortunate. It is FOOD. They can't go gamble at the casinos, or buy cigarettes or hooch. They can't even by toilet paper. But they can buy rice and beans and some chicken.

We have veterans in this country who have given life and limb that receive these benefits. There are people that are disabled that need this food.

Where is your humanity?? For fugs sake!! They are just eating. Is that OK.

Why isn't your ire focused on the TBTF banks that got trillions of dollars. Or British Petroleum or Halliburton. There are two fugging oozing scabs on the sores of humanity. What about the flesh eating parasites that feed off of every single American's skin that are parked up there on K Street in DC.

Jezzus!! I could go on for days about the total corporate take over of this country by the multi-nationals. About the destruction of the manufacturing base starting in the early 80's with Reagan. About the TPP they are trying to ramrod through while no one is looking. That will be the end of us. You think you can't find a job now. No one is paying attention to that fugging monstrosity that they are trying to keep on the down low.

But no!!! You want to complain about feeding children and families that are down on their luck.

Just shows to go ya the frickin propaganda works and people that were born with fewer brain cells are so easily manipulated into thinking his brother is his enemy.

Shameful.

I dont have a problem feeding the less fortunate. Working with Children who are less fortunate is an eye opener.
I suggest folks find a good hobby that would help those in need. Its good for the soul, and it does help.

I do have a problem with those who do have, and are not willing to help because its an inconvenience for them.

I also have a problem with the Michael Moores of the World who have these soapboxes, and Millionaire homes, but wont open their palatial Mansions for a few homeless people........

I think they should 100% be fed. As soon as they return to their parents' native country.

Do you believe America should feed every child in the world with our tax dollars? Do you think America can afford that?

My problem is with those who think they're big heroes because they are against feeding the poor. Remember the day before 9/11 when 2.3 trillion was reported missing from the pentagon?

m.youtube.com...

Do the math. That's 2.3 million dollars each for a million welfare cases. Here hobo, retire. Buy a yacht. But these heroes don't take that on, they take on low income people getting a little bit for food assistance. I have no respect for people who take on spending only when it involves the weak, but cower when it involves the strong. You either stand with your principles or you don't.

peace.

Well some people got life all made up for them, or got lucky enough to make it trough poverty don't respect people that are in need because they feel they didn't have help, when it's always just a matter of perception.

I don't feel that people not working should have access to luxuries but at least they should be clothed, fed, have very basic shelter and have a chance to make a life for themselves, or so to speak.

Are we still so animal that we fear for our own survival badly enough to not want to lend a hand?
Is our society still so under evolved?

Like others pointed out, the same people that want welfare to stop often find ways to justify absurd military spending and corporate tax breaks.

No. The problem is why should we be forced to pay for things for people that are here due to illegal immigration?

Also, social spending accounts for about 45% of all spending, military spending is about 17%. Please get some basic facts straight before you post.

Americans have a duty to ensure American children have food. If you personally wish to pay for food for the rest of the world I think that is great and you should do it. This country should not be forced to feed the world on our taxpayers backs when we can't afford to take care of ourselves.

Without even looking at the replies so far, I can already tell you all you are going to hear.
No one is going to say "me!"
Lots of them will attempt to justify though.
There will be a lot of "the real needy" vs. "welfare queens."
A lot of people here think people go on welfare just to have a better life.
I asked if anyone would give up their current job to go get that awesome welfare life several times and have yet to get a volunteer.

Better yet, just shoot them. A bullet is cheaper than a sammich no?

Sounds like your sort of ideal plan. Not your problem, those persky bastards in your country. And if they die of starvation, serves them right for being born somewhere not where you are.

Got ya.

And god knows you can't afford to feed people in your country. YOu need that money for ... garbage that you can call your own.

Moore made 3 Million off of his first movie. 1 million went to taxes. 1 million paid his bills including those accumulated making the movie. 1 Million went to charity.
That was just how he started.
Feel free to attack Bill Gates next.
There is a logistical problem to opening your home to all the homeless in the world, that is why he gives money away instead.
I wonder how many millions you have given to charity.

Yeah I actually do not even understand that "Can America afford to feed everyone" when we spend more on our military than every other country combined and we pay farmers to not grow food.

Well it's nice that you know me so well!

So you think America should feed every child in China? Africa? Every child around the world? No? Why not? Why are they less deserving?

As far as me, I can't afford it. I also can't afford stuff. I work 40 hours a week to pay my gas, mortgage, and food, and miscellaneous bills.

I have almost no funiture in my house, can't afford it. My car is a 97, can't afford a new one. I haven't been out to eat at a restaurant in about 6 months .. actually aside from when my parents visited it's been 11 months since I went out to eat. I haven't been to a movie theatre in years.

I do pay all my bills and have no debt and make enough money to pay for when my car breaks down etc ....

It's nice of you to think you know me so well though

Back to the actual topic at hand and not your petty ad-hominem attacks, they are not American, they should be taken care of by whatever country they belong to. Unless you advocate America spending tax dollars to ensure EVERY person in the entire world is fed. If you don't advocate American tax dollars feeding every single person in the world ....

And if they die of starvation, serves them right for being born somewhere not where you are.

Right?

And we pay 300% our miltary spending on social spending and we are bankrupt.
Our military funding is so low it's laughable. The Air Force is going to have to lose entire FLEETS of aircraft. Please get some knowledge before you speak. Do you realize if we cut military spending to $0 we would STILL be bankrupt due to social spending?

Define social spending and break it down.

Low? By what standard?

You point out social spending is higher than military spending, which is factually correct. But do you know what that social spending is all about? Seniors. That's the money that keeps old people alive. You cut that, and we become a society that kills its old people. Not young welfare parasites, but grandma and grandpa. Go ahead, research that, you'll see I'm right.

We can do a lot to save money and make this government more efficient, but not without a critical eye from every field. No one should be exempt, social services to the highest spy groups. Waste is everywhere.

Feel free to argue with Zaphod that the AirForce has way more money than it needs.

Almost 60% of the TOTAL budget is Medicare/Medicaid and social security, labor, and unemployment.

There is a breakdown.

I stopped in to "7-11" two days ago to grab a sandwich, a coke, and some chips for lunch. While I was waiting in line the woman behind me said "you paying cash for that?". "um, yea" was what I said, but I was wondering what an odd question to ask a stranger. That's when she said "I'll buy it with my EBT card if you'll give me the cash for it". "no thanks" I told her as politely as I could.

Never for a second believe that FOOD is all food stamps are buying. What makes matters even worse (if that is possible) is that most people in my neighborhood sell their SNAP for 1/3 the value. $1 cash for every $3 of food product. So not only is tax money being wasted, but the people we are wasting it on are then selling it for 1/3 the value.

Beautiful world we live in.

U.S. Military spending is so obscenely far beyond anything REMOTELY close by any other nation on Earth, we actually over spend the next several major world powers COMBINED. Every Year.

Now I'll be the first to agree we actually have more in annual deficit now, under Obama, than all military spending taken as a combined total. In an insane situation, it really can get worse. Still, to suggest we don't spend FAR FAR FAR too much on Military is just outright silly and laughable. Sad....and scary...but laughable for how 'out there' it is to suggest.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. The fact is our budget is not all in our military. People think that. People have brought it up on this thread. MOST of our money goes into social spending.

I have a degree in Social Work and have worked with children and the elderly my whole life. I work with geriatric patients right now. You arent telling me anything I dont know, it has nothing to do with the point I made. In fact, if anything it reinforces it. We simply do NOT have money to spend feeding the world. As I already stated we don't have the money to take care of our citizens and working with geriatrics I can tell you it's deplorable how underfunded things are.

It would be great to make sure everyone has 3 meals a day. That doesn't mean we can afford it.

You're excused.

How about we compare apples to apples. The US is not even the top spending in the military, and we are not spending much more than other countries. This graph is 2010. 2013 spending went down about 10% I think.
