Skyrim help please?

Hi can someone help me play this game? i know its a odd request but i dont usually play this type of game im usually playing fps, racing or sports games. I like the game im just getting stressed about i cant figure out where to go 99% of the time and most of the time i get easily killed by creatures i need to get past or kill. Also are there any mods you can let me know of to make the game look better etc.

first if its to hard you can go in to your game settings and set it to easy. As far as where to go you will get quests and when you get one the black bar up top will have arrows showing you the direction to go. you can also go to your map and fast travel if yo have been there before or set a marker to follow. Having trouble killing an enemy just look it up online there are lots of sites that can help you out.
Also its the best game ever and will suck you in for weeks lol.

As for the game go out and explore to get your stats up and find some decent weapons , enjoy the world

In Bethesda games you kind of decide what you want to do yourself.
Walk around, explore towns and villages and talk to people, the people will give you things to do.
There are several guilds you can join (thieves, mages etc) which you will find eventually just from interacting with people or you can look them up on google of course.

You can set the game to easy as said above but as you progress you gain skills and when you are deep into the game you will find yourself being able to kill everything really easily so you will probably want to bump it back up again

Get a pickax and walk around until you find some metal veins, mine them and then take them to a forge and learn to make armor (or kill some animals and make leather armor) the more you make the better armor you will be able to make.

There are a ton of online guides for it but I think its a lot more fun just to walk around and find out things for yourself

This is the second time ive had the game, when i first bought it i quickly got pissed off and deleted it because a save game error that constantly happened that constantly made me start from scratch. And because when id finally started the game out of the intro i was told to go to a church i think it was at the top of a mountain but when id got there the sasquach at the top would constantly kill me easily.

You dont have to do the "missions" as soon as you get them, if something keeps killing you then you could do some different things and get your stats up until you can kick its furry butt easily

If you aren't having fun, you are doing it wrong. That is the only requisite for playing Skyrim correctly. You don't "need" to go anywhere in particular. As far as tough creatures, if one is in your way, don't fight it. Come back later when you are all bad ass. Other than that, just take your time. The content is not always spoon-fed to you like in COD or whatever.

If you truly aren't getting it or enjoying it, maybe that's just not the kind of game for you. I don't "get" certain genres and I've realized that I actually do get it but I just don't enjoy it. Open world choose-your-own-destiny types of games aren't for everybody. It's about immersion.

I do get and enjoy the game my problem is not knowing where to go, i looked at a few video's a while ago for skyrim to try and figure out where i had to go and the video literally made no sense and when some did the video was so messed up i couldnt see where he was going. I know i dont have to do the missions but i dont know where to go if im not doing them, at the minute im doing the first mission but when i have to go to the white church i think its called i have no clue what to do.

If I may suggest? Do what I do for learning any other software. Games are no different. Go to Youtube!

If you're quick to pick up by watching over expert shoulders (Some on there are), then that'll show ya everything you need to know while it's being demonstrated. That's where I'd go if stumped on general game play or mechanics.

When I start a new game I just wander around and explore caves and other markers you can see on the compass at the top of the screen, this allows skills to level as I fight weaker creatures and also acquire a few items. I will walk towards a town I haven't been to yet and explore everything I see along the way, this will usually allow a few skills to level up before I reach the town.

I was a WOW player for years and now I'm learning Skyrim.......I started with Oblivion which helped. I write down all the tips I can before I go on a rampage. I google a lot and highly recommend doing so. The other thing is that if you are on a PS3-4 you can talk to others online while wearing head phones which would allow you to ask questions to a fellow skyrimmer.


As for me I am learning it too and am frustrated but only because I've yet to learn my way around this new world.

Right now as a beginner I'm looking for an old woman who teaches the fine art of archery. She is high up in the mountains and once I have trained with her it will give me an edge to make my way around being able to kill off my attackers more easily.

Do you mean whiterun by any chance?

When you have an active quest a marker will appear on the map telling you where you have to go, at the start of the game the map will be mostly covered in clouds (fog) and that will vanish as you explore the area.

Ok, here is an example: While going through the intro and trying to escape death from the chopping block and a black dragon, you get to choose who you are going to follow, Ralof, a Stormcloak rebel, or Hadvar, an Imperial soldier to escort you through the keep. The person you choose opens up opportunities with each faction.

The best thing you can do now is begin building up your strengths. Depending on what kind of character you chose, will depend on what kind of strengths you need to develop. The best thing you can do for the first 4 or 5 levels is to do small tasks you get from inn keepers and others that you will meet. Also learn which items to collect that do not weigh much and then sell them for money. Kill wolves and other small animals and collect their hides and then go to the Smith and build your Smithing skills so you can repair your weapons and armor. There are a few early quests that will gain you more powerful equipment than you can buy, but I have found building my skills and then making my own seems to work better for me.

First Time Players

As others have said, don't jump into trying to do the main quest or some of the harder quests in the beginning. Explore, build your skills, earn money, join a guild or faction and do some of those easier quests. Once you have developed your character a bit, then start taking on some of the tougher stuff. Also, remember once you have accepted a quest, you can take your time in doing it. The people of Skyrim seem to be OK with that. The game is very tolerant of you taking your time with it. Unlike an FPS which is linear and requires you to complete a quest before you can move on.

Have fun. I have been playing since it first came out and still haven't explored the entire realm, or completed every quest. I have played several different types of characters and have been both bad and good. It's a great game!

If your constantly getting killed by certain creatures, either do hit and run tactics, hit back off, hit again...
of use magic spells from afar, just blast him, run off, blast him again, when your magic runs out, let it recharge.

You also have quest, there is the main quest and side quest. The radiant system is pretty clever, some quest you just can't do until you level up. If I were you, I would stick to a town and stay there, talk with the people and they will give you small sub quest that will reward you with money and items. Stick close to town when you venture out, sometimes the only baddies you'll face in these moments will be skeever's (rats) and a couple of wolves.

Experiment with the controls, go outside the city walls and try stuff out, like spells, weapon draws, blocking with a shield. eventually you'll grasp it.

IMHO, I think you should start out in Riften, its located SE of the map, on the other side of that huge mountain your talking about getting killed by the troll (sasquatch). In that city, you'll be introduced to the thieves guild, so a lot of the missions you due will have you sneaking around and breaking into houses, looting all you see, with minimal combat, just enough to give you a feel on fighting enemies, a great way to level up.

Just keep at it, once you've attained a pretty good level, 15-20 and you got some good weapons and armor with a nice arrangement of spells, you'll do just find by going out. Find companions and they will follow you into combat, that helps a lot.

My character is Nord, built like a battle mage (that class is not available, only in oblivion, but you can build you characters in such manner), Lv. 80, maxed out spells and skills.

You'll get there.

You'll get there, the biggest thing I would say is tweak the difficulty, and up it later once you get the hang of everything and learn the mechanics of successful combat.


Explore, talk to everyone, put off the main quest and get down on some side quests

I have this game for the ps3. To tell the truth i never beat it mostly because of the timing of its release, it coincided with another game which in my opinion though its not really the same genre it is a better game. I got pretty far in skyrim but never finished it, somewhere towards the end but then just quit and drooped it as the other game came out, and after that forgot about it. I do believe I will be replaying it one of these days from the beginning one of these days.

However Skyrim is a great game, there is only one thing I wish they would have put more time into and that is the combat. In most cases it just comes down to who has the stronger stats and who is better equipped and how many healing skills and items you have on you. And if your a warrior you basically just run up and start swinging like a madman and the guy with the best stats will go down, which kind of kills the fun because there really isn't much tactics in it, and real life actual combat even with swords is not like that.

But the game is still fun for what it is, and aside some things the game is great. Most times if your having trouble killing a creature in the game just try a different approach, you can even cheep shoot it from a distance before going in for the kill, or come back more well equipped. Also yes, if you have the game for PC there are all kinds of mods, and I do mean all kinds. Making the game look better being the least of the mods you can find out there.

Actually I remember that part, shes all the way up some mountain. The first time I played the game I ran into her while randomly roaming the realm and killing anything in my way, I never even bothered doing many of the quests, I think I only did a few of the first quests, then just started roaming around the world at random killing things and leveling up.

I thought she was just a bandit, I think I stole or grabbed something from her cabin in my roaming's, or I accidentally attacked her. So she started attacking me, and I had to put her down. She was one of the toughest people I ran into as I was pretty low level, she killed me like two or three times. The first time she started attacking me I was trying to dodge her arrows while I was hiding behind a tree and healing up. I turned around trying to dodge her arrows and to get out of the distance of her arrows, and ended up cornered while being peppered by arrows from her not far from her cabin, trapped between her and a dam cliff.

I literally ran off the dam cliff with sliver of health left trying to get away. This was all on the hardest difficulty I could put it on while randomly roaming the area. I eventually killed her next few time around, I never even bothered to talk to her to see what she was about. She pissed me off so much because of that first encounter. So when I died the first times and restarted. I just continued to walk up there to her cabin and attack her till I won.

It was only hours latter were I restarted the game a few saves back and decided to stop messing around and do the actual main story quests. When I got to that area again I decided to talk to her first and found out she is trainer and actually pretty useful in giving you some quick xp in the archery department.

So ya moral of the story dont go around attacking people in skyrim they will attack back. And some of them are a pain, or worse if you kill them you will never be able to do there quests latter. That and its always useful to keep a few saves around as you never know what you may have missed in the game.

Haha that was hilarious galad that made me laugh a lot because I was clearly imagining it. There is no doubt the level of frustration when first trying out a new world. Your story is very easy to imagine and feeling the shear frustration is easy to read in your words. Well I haven't played that much lately and can honestly say that I just want to lose myself in that world long enough to get the hang of it and stop just roaming around like an idiot.

I'm starting again because my PS3 got fried and lost every shred of memory and now I'm stuck on having to begin every game from scratch since I got my replacement which has been a few months now. I haven't mustered up the mojo to start again quite yet but now that it is winter and I'm in shut in mode sounds like a good time.

I've just started SWTOR jut for something different. Discovering that it is similar to WOW but def prefer Skyrim.

Anyhoo thanks for your account because it made me laugh a lot and now I know that being utterly frustrated gaming at first is indeed universal. I only do wish they would put cheats on the actual game for the desperate moments, and I mean real cheats because there are some desperate moments when I want to seriously throw the PS out the window. If games came with an override in the areas that we get stuck on so that we could at least continue playing then that would solve a lot of problems.

lol, yeah no kidding! for me it was Oblivion. I don't think I ever completed the main quest, I just did a bunch of sub quest and looted caves and dungeons all day...now that I think about it, did I even do any kind of quest??? I may have just looted and bought a house.

I did do the sinderions quest, you actually find that same guy, sinderion from oblivion in skyrim at blackreach, apparently either the falmar or dwemer machines got to him, whatever the case was, he must of been able to reach his house but died from the wounds inflicted from the looks of it. Poor guy.
