I have never heard this before. It seem when looking into the distant past our ideas of ancestory and pace may well be out. A black civilisation existing somewhere in the South of China that dates at the dawn of Chinese civilisation.

“There is evidence of substantial populations of Blacks in early China. Archaeological studies have located a black substratum in the earliest periods of Chinese history, and reports of major kingdom ruled by Blacks are frequently in Chinese documents."

vveasey.hubpages.com...

and well put into context..

Li was asked how he as a Chinese felt about what he found.

He said “after I saw the evidence generated in my laboratory. I think we should all be happy with that. Because after all, modern humans from different parts of the world are not so different from each other and we are very close relatives.” (Amen Brother!)

That is probably the most absurd thing I've read this year. Congratulations on finding this "gem".

Let me tell you why the idea that first inhabitants of China being black is bull.

Africa is located too far from the pacific.

Black civilization are more tribal, and artifacts are not their to prove it.

Over 90% of the race in China is Han Chinese.

Don't believe every thing you hear on the interwebs.

The Olmecs (West Africans) populated much of Meso-America. They are the founders of all South American cultures. Also the language found South America was said to be simular to chinese script. This new dicovery helps fill in some missing pieces.

I think you mean Aborigines, were indigenous in South America. African population came later with the very first settlers abandon there colonies and joined up Indian tribes. By the way the Ivory coast located in West Africa had a huge slavery industry and these West Africans made their way to the new world.

Before Columbus the Americas had at least 900 million Indians living in mostly dirt brick structures, warring with each other and cutting out hearts.

Most likely they were black Australoids, or Aboriginal Australians and not black Negroids from Africa.

I'll wait for Hans. or Punkin. to chime in to drop some knowledge on us.

Okay, so a subset of individuals left the Ethiopian Highlands some kya and migrated to parts of China. The first Homo sapiens to step foot on what is now present day China probably had darkly pigmented skin. Then a couple of thousand years later, the human populations in China independently developed lightly pigmented skin.

Now I know there are still many people and probably some of you reading this hub who would be horrified, upset, disgusted, in disbelief etc, etc, if you found that you had any genetic connection to a black person.

? We all have a genetic connection to the ancestral population in eastern Africa, so his point is unwarranted.

The Hubpage article is poorly written, imo. The pro-"black" undertones toward the end of the article downplay the significance of the findings by the Chinese researchers.

IMPORTANT: Do you have a reputable source containing the study carried out by the Chinese research team? I don't want to take this at face value.

Nope, but you weren't there either.

Here is whole entire article.

For many years Black historians and Afrocentrists have said that the first inhabitants of China were black Africans.

The Negroid races peopled at some time all the South of India, Indo-China and China. The South of Indo-China actually has now pure Negritos as the Semangs and mixed as the Malays and the Sakais."

( H. Imbert, "Les Negritos de la Chine").

“Even the sacred Manchu dynasty shows this Negro strain. The lower part of the face of the Emperor Pu-yi of Manchukuo, direct descendant of the Manchu rulers of China, is most distinctly Negroid. Chinese chroniclers report that a Negro Empire existed in the South of China at the dawn of that country's history.

( Professor Chang Hsing-Lang , "The importation of Negro Slaves to China under the Tang Dynasty A.D. 618-907)

“There is evidence of substantial populations of Blacks in early China. Archaeological studies have located a black substratum in the earliest periods of Chinese history, and reports of major kingdom ruled by Blacks are frequently in Chinese documents."

(Kwang-Chih Chang, The Archaeology of Ancient China, (Yale University Press) and Irwin Graham, Africans Abroad (Columbia University Press).

But after hundreds of years of the worldwide spread of the doctrine of white superiority and the inferiority of black Africans and their descendants. This notion was poo, pooed by white scientists and others and even by some blacks.

But in 2005, a Chinese DNA specialist, Jin Li, leading a team of Chinese and other scientists, proved through DNA tests that indeed the first inhabitants of China were black Africans.

Li said he was trying to prove that the Chinese evolved from homo erectus independently of all other humans. He collected DNA samples from 165 different ethnic groups and over 12000 samples in China and Asia to test his theory.

Li said he was taught through China’s education system that there was something special about Chinese. And because he was Chinese, he was hoping to prove that the Chinese developed independently of all other humans.

But surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise!

Li’s team focused on a single genetic marker that appeared about 80,000 years ago in Africa. Anyone carrying that marker would have recent African ancestors and could not be descended from the more ancient Homo Erectus.

Li and his team found that early humans belonged to different species but modern humans descended from the East Africans species.

Li Hui, a scientist on Li’s team, said, that 100,000 years ago groups of humans started leaving Africa moving through South and Southeast Asia into China, and that 65 branches of the Chinese groups studied carry similar DNA mutations as the people of Southeast Asia.

Jin Li said “we did not see even one single individual that could be considered as a descendant of the homo erectus in China, rather, everybody was a descendant of our ancestors from Africa."

Li was asked how he as a Chinese felt about what he found.

He said “after I saw the evidence generated in my laboratory. I think we should all be happy with that. Because after all, modern humans from different parts of the world are not so different from each other and we are very close relatives.” (Amen Brother!)

Li’s team was composed of an international group of scientist from China, Russia, India, Brazil and other nations. This was a 5 year project to study the geographic and genealogical routes tracing the spread and settlements of ancient and modern humans.

Now I know there are still many people and probably some of you reading this hub who would be horrified, upset, disgusted, in disbelief etc, etc, if you found that you had any genetic connection to a black person.

And I can feel your pain, because at one time in American history, as a result of all of the negative racial propaganda published about blacks to justify slavery for 400 years.

Many black people didn't want to be black either.

Right up until the civil rights movement, the "I'm black and I'm proud" and the "Black Is Beautiful" movements.

Many black Americans were happy to tout that they were part Indian. part white or part any other ethnic group other than just being only black.

Many black men and women straighten their hair and used skin lighting creams to make themselves look more white than black.

This is understandable, because all of the movies stars and other esteemed images of Americans were white and mostly all of the images of black Americans were ugly, buffoonish and how shall we say it, aesthetically not pleasing.

But the DNA is the DNA and that shows that all modern human orginated in some part of the African continent.

Believe It Or Not

Or read em and weep

"If you get to the stage where you can persuade people on the evidence, that it's solid, that we are all African, that color is superficial, that stages of development of culture are all interactive, then I think we have a chance of a world that will respond better to global challenges." Richard Leaky, Paleoanthropologist

As noted above everyone, based on our present understanding had ancestors that came from Africa, specialization into later 'race' groups occurred based on those migrations which probably came as waves which washed back and forth across surface of the earth for tens of thousands of years. later waves mixing with the descendents of the earlier.

Olmecs, no not west African in the modern sense. Asia who long ago did come from Africa.

The African origins of the Chinese is no surprise to human biologists and anthropologists. In 2004, hundreds of Chinese DNA samples were compared and traced to a group of small Africans who migrated to China 100,000 years ago. They were similar to modern day pigmies and called "Africoids". Their path of migration has been traced and the study disproved the previous theory that Mongols originated from Peking Man 400,000 years ago. Africans and Chinese share many unique traits, despite the desire of many Chinese to distance themselves from their African roots.

ok this is ridiculous. African centric theories are starting to annoy the hell out of me.

So is the "evidence " from this ONE Chinese lab and scientist being peer reviewed yet?

Will it and will every African centrist wait until it is before speaking about it as though it is fact?

No sadly....they will just go into a self induced craze.

Also...There is NO evidence of the olmecs being from africa...Only the opinion that the giant stone heads were thought to resemble African traits.

I knkw MANY South Americans who have such traits. My wifes family has them and they are 100% Mexica.....

To me the olmec heads look like Neanderthal .....sooooo

Until evidence is peer reviewed it is NOT proof.

Gawd.....

Africans and Chinese share many unique traits including pigmented retinas and unique genetic markers. Of course, all races originated from a single group of Africans, and those who chose to stay close to home continued to evolve at the same rate as the nomads.

On a more social note- both races share a remarkable ability to cut up on a dance floor!

ok.......this is what annoys me about these theories ......they are just absurd and lead to more absurd associations by others....some of which are down right racist..

Any pigmentation of retinas or otherwise is not a valid genetic marker. Those are adaptations for environment.

Also There are MANY theories about ancient migrations. There are about 4 out of Africa models ....all of which have been and are subject to change as new evidence is discovered.

It is jumping the gun to say "we all" come out of Africa. To what extent is yet to be proven.

Some of us have more Neanderthal DNA than others. Some of us have NONE.

That all speaks to these very migrations people use to lump us all together.

as far as this new theory ....then I guess that ALL or most Chinese will have some African DNA then...(Not)

If not how can a group who supposedly settled an area not have any significant genetic contribution to present day inhabitants ....being as they were the larger population at an early/ first start of the area.....

Well that is a theory new to me. I do not know nearly enough about this to be able to call true or false. But all I well say is you never know.. Until it is proven or disproven..

Interesting theory.....s/f

The preponderance of evidence points to that, and being a theory it will never be actually 'proven' AFAIK no other theory has sufficient evidence to challenge it at the present time.

Yep and where did Neanderthal come from......Africa, you might want to look at the probably precursor to Neanderthal and HSS, Homo heidelbergensis.

We all have African DNA AFAWNK, long ago we all seemed to have come out of a place that would later be labelled 'Africa'.

If not how can a group who supposedly settled an area not have any significant genetic contribution to present day inhabitants ....being as they were the larger population at an early/ first start of the area.....

Die off and being swamped by more numerous followers on - plus some of them are still there in the surviving pockets.

Edited to add in: You do realise they are talking about events that occured 50-150,000 years ago right?

Neanderthal came out of Africa?!

Well that is news to me....seeing as how their exact origin is yet to be known.

yes we all have African DNA. All that shows is that early in our history populations from Africa bred with others. What percentage we have and in what percent of the world population would tell us if we do in fact all originate from Africa...or if its just that the oldest specimens found indicating a possible link between hominids came from Africa and as such we are trying to prove a theory based on that specimen.

Saying all hominids are somehow related based on physical traits observable only to skeletal remains is quak science endorsed by all but flawed none the less.

I guess chimps orangutans and gorillas are all related too huh? one led to the other in a neat progression of evolution?

No?! Egahd

I'm not sure we know for sure the skin colour of homos habiis

But more to the point, who cares? Skin colour defines humans in the same way that petal colour defines a rose. Apart from a handful of very stupid, racist, bigots with incredibly tiny penises and an inability to open a can of coke without spraying it al over their faces, it doesn't matter one iota.

Yes, it's likely that homo sapiens once all had dark skin. It's also likely that homo sapiens once had never heard of Miley Cyrus. Which proves what?

Some of our ancestors suffered mutations as we spread out of Africa. Get over it! It doesn't make us inferior just because we have pale skin or blonde hair or blue eyes. We can still be brain surgeons or invent new vacumn cleaners or write interesting novels.

Yes and no. They are all related. Just as you and I are. But you didn't evolve from me ..... We have a common ancestor. Their's was a few million years ago, ours only a few hundred.
