I just saw this- another prime example of our out-of-touch "public servants". Perhaps congressmen should be paid the average salary in the district they serve.

Then Representative Phil Gingrey spoke up. Gingrey has led the charge in the House to end the subsidy, introducing the “No Special Treatment for Congress Act” and joining Vitter on a letter to OPM questioning whether its ruling is legal.

The Georgia Republican, whose latest personal financial-disclosure forms show his net worth is at least $3 million, had little sympathy for lawmakers and even less for staff.

Capitol Hill aides, he said “may be 33 years old now and not making a lot of money. But in a few years they can just go to K Street,” the Washington, D.C., vernacular for becoming a lobbyist, “and make 500,000 a year. Meanwhile I’m stuck here making $172,000 a year.”

He's right. Even 170,000 won't buy you much freedom these days. On the other hand 500,000 might get you somewhere...

Here i am looking for an apprentice job in a skill trade only making 55k thinking thats good. The funny thing is you have to be trained for years and actually skillfully know what your doing to do that.

What a job were doing.

How long before capitalism is looked at as badly as socialism is?

Funny.... I was making around 40k trucking and believe me, the costs of just living that lifestyle while supporting a family at home are remarkable. I was pretty comfy in a middle class lifestyle. If the Congressman thinks making over 3x's the average United States income today (Median household income, 2007-2011 // $52,762) isn't good enough? I can think of a way his constituents can insure he has nothing but a pension check (A very nice one for a Congressman, by the way).

I mean really... cry me a friggin river. Someone find me my 'So Sowwy' Violin. I need to play a tune.

If money is the goal, stay OUT of public service. That whole attitude is what has corrupted it into a banana republic to begin with.

Here is the underlying problem. He is right, but for a very wrong disgusting reason!

What? Let me explain.

This man spent 411,000+ dollars on his campaign.
This is likely th only reason he won his bid for the seat... (disgusting).

This man is simply complaining about his return on investment folks....

But, don't worry. This bought and sold tool will get his money back in other ways.

How? Come on... you know...

Out of our pockets...

Politician 101...

(Insert puke symbol here..... whatever that looks like these days...)

It's true, Rep. Gingrey is just a stuffed shirt. However, the left will mindlessly use this quote out of its context to perpetuate their insanity.

sad thing is they think that being a senator or representative is suppose to be a career.
when it was only meant to be a temporary position at best, our founding fathers and others after them only did the politician thing when something needed voted on. then they went home back to their real jobs, or they didn't eat.

Agreed. Everyone needs to understand that a over paid, over fed and over privileged f*ck
is just a over paid, over fed and over privileged f*ck despite their left or right status.

Greed is greed, they vote with their wallets not their hearts.

Politicians should make no money what-so-ever.

They are public "servants".

I'm pretty much disgusted by each and every one of them.

I always liked the idea that politicians only get free room, board and food. And any conflicts of interest are found would be grounds for immediate dismissal and barred from any other position in government. No more assholes giving companies they are major stockholders in all the major contracts etc etc. They would likely just hide it better, but hey, let's not make it easy on the leaches.

and the rich get richer....so sad how out of touch these greedy government types are with common man...between them and your average CEO they rape an enormous amount of $$$ out of the economy and sit back quite comfortably telling the rest of the country that it's the unemployed who is sucking the economy dry (and i am not saying large amounts of unemployed is a good thing).....i just wonder how many less unemployed we would have respectively should these greedy people be getting paid a common man wage?...how many more jobs would be available (assuming employers didn't take on the role of the greedy)

That's one major trap in life...

You start making money, and you can quickly become so ingreatful for it. You take everything for granted, your ego sores, you think you're actually "better" than other people, you become dilusional, and adopt a million and one dispicable character traits. I'm not saying it happens to everyone but it happens to a lot of people and can so easily happen. There that rich jerk befor they know it. Sometimes a wake up call snaps them out of it. I'm talking from experience.

I have to agree with that one. They cannot even do their jobs... Look at congress for example. If my coworkers and I couldn't agree on anything 90% of the time I would be out of a job... Yet they get to keep theirs...

Nothing make sense anymore.

My local newspaper just had an article talking about how the rich just keep getting richer. It said the combined worth of the Forbes top 400 richest Americans is like 4 trillion dollars. I wish these people could spend one day in my minimum wage life.

It's just sickening how greedy these people are. 100 grand? I would be set for life with that much money! I just can't understand their way of thinking, I consider my life comfortable at 8 bucks an hour.

Roger that. With one hundred grand I could buy some land and build a cottage and never have a mortgage payment ever.

Greedy politicians disgust me. Democrats and Republicans do not love America. They love power and money. They need to be gotten rid of. Every last one of them.

And it is. Besides, you'll actually be doing something that contributes to society, not making paper-wealth by manipulating markets and playing Wall Street bingo. Not to mention, when all this comes down, we'll be eating their children, not yours.

172K a year and he is complaining? With the job congress is doing he shouldn't even be making minimum wage.

At a time when this country has more debt than any nation in history, its people are broke, unemployed, and we are involved in several police actions abroad... Its nice to know those in charge are still getting paid ridiculous salaries.

No wonder they didn't call out the Banks for the bail outs and paying executives... They all have the same mind set.

We need a complete cleaning house in government, all the corruption has to stop and those in charge wont do it.

WE need to vote them all out before its too late, they are bleeding america dry.
