Prove that God is not real

Why in the world would someone ask anyone to disprove god?

I'll use an example:

I claim that a God of good luck exists. Whenever you win the lottery, find money outside, etc; it's because my god blessed you.

You tell me you don't believe in my god.

I tell you "prove me that he is not real"...

How is it possible to prove that my god is not real? It's not possible, it's illogical to ask such question and it's illogical to say that I will believe in my god until someone disproves it.

The burden of proof is upon the one who makes the claim.

If I claim that a god-eating monster exists, should you believe in it until it's disproven?

Or should you take it with a grain of salt until I prove my claim?

It seems to me that this argument or discussion cannot be had betwixt a religious person and an atheist.

First, science should never be used to disprove anything. It's a way of coming to a reasonably sound conclusion based on evidence, facts, and experiments.

Second, religion is not like science. "Accepting Christ into your heart" or "Feeling the Word of God in your soul" or whatever is the phrase of the week are not scientific claims, are not testable, and are completely subjective.

I just don't think we can have this conversation with any amount civility.

I'll give it a go

My first son died from a brain haemorrhage an innocent child

My mother can hardly breathe and just broke her elbow whilst trying to help someone less fortunate

My second niece was dead on the way to hospital after being kicked in the head by a horse whilst trying to help someone

I've had to kill on more than one occasion in order to survive against a religious fanatic

I've died and been brought back as a result of trying to help

And I helped scrape a kid off the side of a truck a couple of months ago because his dad thought seat belts weren't necessary

All of the above apart from me worship your God

I've done nothing but try to be true and honest, work hard, and help others, if that's your God's reward I'll happily pass it along.

And I am still waiting for the email from your God apologising for His mistaken identity

What someone else thinks about God is up to them. Sure you can share your feelings, as long as you don't get "preachy" but once you get to that level, most will tune you out, so it's a wasted effort. (IMHO) God is a personal thing anyway. Each person who believes has their own relationship with him/her and deals with God in their own way.

But on a side note, please prove I am not a purple ant eater.

It's next to impossible to prove that god is not real. We don't actually know what god is, so how can you disprove something if you do not know what it actually is. I tried asking my god to help me win the lotto and he told me I am a winner if I do not play. I still buy tickets for entertainment sometimes, I consider myself lucky if I get my money back.

It is illogical to be honest. It's a belief. I cant prove to anyone what I believe. It's a personal thing. Hopefully you would respect my beliefs as I respect yours. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who like to bash peoples beliefs on ATS, which is disrespectful. Sorry for being a little defensive.
