Everyone has an opinion I guess....I just don't see how this is that big of a deal

It's a big deal the state wants as much info on its citizens as it can.

The info is not dangerous yet but who knows as we march towards less and less privacy what the end results will be.

The potential for abuse is too high to just be handing information out to the government.

But let's not fool ourselves if they wanted to they just need to type your name in the nsa database and they already would know...

So let's atlrast try to have some outrage for government snoopying not the lazy apathy of "no big deal"

This is silly fear mongering; a primary care physician will ask many questions that seem out of bounds

As far as your sex life, that can impact your health also; it's not necessarily an intrusion any more than your prostate or GYN exam is... or do you squawk when your doc gets out the rubber gloves?

I have a problem with government mandated rubber gloves and intrusive questions.

It's a violation of doctor patient privillage it's nog conspiracy nuts complaining, it's doctors.

My primary made his choice to retire (already in his 60's) as opposed to having to deal with Obama care.

For all the people who are wondering what exactly a 'pillow count' is all about, they are asking about how propped up you need to be to sleep. "Three pillow orthopnea" is not a good sign and you're probably a smoker with incipient congestive heart failure, otherwise known as lungs filling with fluid to the point of near-drowning every night.

Really???? You have a problem with 'government mandated rubber gloves'? Would you prefer your doc to touch you and 20 other people all day long with his bare hands, including rectal exams?

And if you think a question is 'intrusive' simply say so. You're free to demur. The HIPAA requirements for privacy are pretty stern and you'll have a good lawsuit case if any of your private information gets out. I've worked medical records for most of my life and staff can't even talk amongst themselves about 'that weird guy in room 7' without risking immediate dismissal. Believe me, no one cares about your sex life, they've seen it all.

The more information the government collects on you, the more it can control you.

Smoke?? Pay more for health care.
Overweight? Pay more for health care.
Have sex with multiple partners? Pay more for health care.
It's a way to control people. Get money from people ... and control them.

People have a right to their privacy ... or perhaps I shouldn't say that. Under Obamacare ... there is no privacy.

So let's see... the government is already mining your email, telephones, and web surfing. If they want to, they know what you're into, what you're doing, when, and with whom. Meanwhile, people post all sorts of stuff on Facebook (and elsewhere) thinking that it's safe. But Facebook is mining that data, linking it with all your other web activity, and selling the results to corporations. So really, what are you more bent about? Your cholesterol level or the porn sites you frequent and the ads you answer on Craig's List?

Depending on what you are visiting the doc for, I can understand sex life to a certain extent. Like say questions pertaining to frequency and if protection is used regularly. Orientation however not a docs business. Gun ownership not a docs business, whether or not you own a gun has no bearing on your health. Unless of course you happen to shoot yourself with it and at that point it is the doc's job to treat your wound not lecture you on gun safety.

You have to have a 'Sex Life' to be questioned about one.

How are they going to deal with that scenario?

But then, .. .

Once you tell them that, they will start asking questions about your relationship with your hand.

Agreed, control and find excuses to charge you more (hence larger profit margin for them) based on your lifestyle "(in whineiest voice possible) because you lead an unhealthy lifestyle"

hahahahaha! That's pretty funny.

Doctor: "Now just a few questions they won't be more intrusive than a prostate or GYN exam."

You: "What!??!"

OH that's easy to answer ...

Middle aged ... sex drive falling off ... haven't had sex with spouse in months ...
Doctor says - 'that's not normal .... you have to take some pills'.
And you get put on addicting anti-depressants or hormone stimulators ... or viagara .... etc

Gotta' sell those pills so you are 'normal'.
(Normal = obsessed with sex no matter your age or station in life)

What the Hell good is Viagra going to do if you have no place to put the end result?

This is silly fear mongering; a primary care physician will ask many questions that seem out of bounds if they're actually doing their job but most never bother to even ask questions that are pertinent. And after working for pediatricians, I know that asking about 'guns in the house' is SOP to make sure that the guns are responsibly stored.

This may well have been fear mongering when people were suggesting all the Doctors and Hospitals somehow worked together to conspire in collecting all the info.

Now that it's being done by the suggestion, direction and requirement of the Federal Government? It's not fear mongering as much as simply conveying the state of affairs in our nation today, as we're learning to adjust to a new reality of 0 privacy from Uncle Sam. Uncle knows all becuase he controls all. What a world.

My primary care physician has long been asking me about my sex life.

Didn't read anything into that, I just figured he was a perv.

The point being people should be up in arms over all of it, the 4th amendment is a joke now, and its due to our apathy over it.

Why? I am straight as an arrow and it doesn't bother me in the slightest......Does it bother you if you are gay? Must feel something inside about it being right or not if simple things like this bother gays....

Well, that was certainly an unnecessary stab. . . It's not about it being "right", or "wrong". It's like the OP states, it's just simply an invasion of privacy. However, I am one to respect privacy -- If someone doesn't want to give that information they shouldn't HAVE TO.

You hit the bell !!

They are building these universal databases so they can pre-determine future classifications that will require a higher policy cost to individuals, and it will impact group policies too.

And anyone who thinks this is no big deal because your doctor has been asking these questions 'for years'.....

You do know that your information will now be available to any nosy bureaucrat and insurance company right ?

The old paper file jackets that stay in the office are now on computers that use internet connections.

The 'Progressive' agenda is to dismantle privacy in favor of money related goals.

This is *not* about healthcare.

Is there anything in the PPACA that limits insurance policy costs ? How about co-pays and out-of-pocket limits ?

well well.
