Brief Site Outage: 11/12/2013 @ 1AM EST: DONE -- repaired PM issues

At -- or around -- 1AM eastern time (US) the site will be offline for a brief period while I take care of some management/maintenance issues that can only be performed while the servers are offline.

Hopefully, it won't take long.

The work has been completed with mixed success.

As many could imagine, we had a growing issue with the private message database that has been at the core of quite a few of the very-recent site issues of downtime and slow performance.

There was a great deal of corrupted data, most of it very old, but some recent data had become corrupted as well. The hard part is that the backups, in a case like this, we're backing up corrupted data and we don't keep any older than 30 days (get's real expensive to retain monthly snapshots of a 12 gigabyte database).

The worst-case scenario was to scrap the entire database table, and start fresh -- however -- a repair recovered slightly more than half of the data... 501,000+ records.



The private message system is back.

On the old ats, if you had a new message, the button was highlighted.

Does this maintenance fix the problem where you have to manually check if you have new messages or not?

Or did I miss this info somewhere?
