The work has been completed with mixed success.
As many could imagine, we had a growing issue with the private message database that has been at the core of quite a few of the very-recent site
issues of downtime and slow performance.
There was a great deal of corrupted data, most of it very old, but some recent data had become corrupted as well. The hard part is that the backups,
in a case like this, we're backing up corrupted data and we don't keep any older than 30 days (get's real expensive to retain monthly snapshots of
a 12 gigabyte database).
The worst-case scenario was to scrap the entire database table, and start fresh -- however -- a repair recovered slightly more than half of the
data... 501,000+ records.
The private message system is back.
