Syria Never signed the Chemical Weapons Ban Treaty

...CWC negotiations started in 1980 in the UN Conference on Disarmament.
The convention opened for signature on January 13, 1993,

and entered into force on April 29, 1997.

so Syria never broke any rules or abbrogated the terms of a Treaty to the rest of the world...and eventually having the 'poor mans 'Nukes' does not make Syia a sneaky nation because thay have chemical weapons... hell their neighbors Iran+Iraq did a 8 year series of battles that often used these WMDs... why should they have remained un-defended and un-armed by not having chemical weapons to deter potential conflicts/aggressions from both of those war centered governments ?


the OP thoughts are incorrect...as a NON Signee of the CWC, Syria did not go against the rest of the world--- they only were counter to those nations that were on-board with the agreed treaty which banned chemical weapons


just because a lot of nations entered into that agreement does not make them right and any non-signatories wrong !
I am sure there are nations that did not join the ban but still do not make or keep chemical weapons for whatever reason.


this topic seems to use a broad brush in condeming anyone/nation that did not sign on...
perhaps the nonsignees did not want the USA PoliceState intruding with inspections on their private soil...
they were thinking of their national pride & soverignity and independence from American hegemony to intrude
