Paul Cantor has a great new book:

The Invisible Hand in Popular Culture

A quote from the movie "Serenity" that sums it up pretty well, I think:

A year from now, ten, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make peopleā€¦better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave. -Captain Awesome*

Great movie that, and so was the TV series Firefly. There have been many invisible hands in movies lately, another personal favourite of mine is from Captain Luke Picard from the movie First Contact.

Forgive me for not being able to recite word for word, maybe somebody else can, but it ends in him saying
"This far, no further" when he describes the Borgs insatiable thirst for "democraticising" Oops, I mean assimilating every culture, oops again, I mean every race, they came into contact with.

Resistance is futile.
