The American people never decided to go to war ever and they never ever will get to vote to decide to go to war.

Boston Tea Party?

Go take a history class, there was no United States then, hence no constitution.

Haha, fair enough.

Point taken.

But what of the civil war?
edit on 5-9-2013 by OneManArmy because: (no reason given)

What about it?
Our leaders led us into that too. President and Congress. No whiney anti war protesters got to stand in line and got to vote if there should be a Civil War, there is no provision for such nonsense in the Constitution.

Calling people whiney anti war protestors while the mood is supposedly "Mild mannered" I find quite ironic.

Maybe you should change the mood to confrontational?

Ghandi was a whiney anti war protestor too.
But hey, no point hoping for peace when theres people to kill in the name of capitalist greed eh?

Wasnt the tea party a revolt against corporate imperialistic greed?

The whining comes before the action. Without the whining there would be no action.
And without action against the injustice of imperialistic greed, there would be no USA.

As 'teenagers' on the world scale, it is natural (at this stage of its history) to have the rambunctious and rebellious attitude is has. It will grow out of it...or go on to a less than savoury growth stage...

Å99

I assume that summary applies to Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan and Iran, Canada, Australia, Nigeria, Kenya, etc etc etc?

I honestly thought more of america than a petulant teenager.

I see it more as a big brother that has started to hang with the wrong people and is starting to go off the rails. I care because we have a single common heritage, we are family. And blood is thicker than the atlantic.

It's a good analogy...the big brother that got all the hand-me-downs from the extended family of the world...200 years is a short time in world time scale when we are talking strictly of a 'culture replacement'...the Indian Nations and the Koori aboriginal Nation (the latter, a conservative 40.000 year heritage) would see invading colonists from wherever, setting up a completely new culture, as petulance (once basically established)...Russia and the Coalition of the willing might be able to tell you what effect this might have on a culture that is far older and virtually having to deal with the petulant teenagers of the world (not that I would condone all the practices of these cultures)...and, large island states, surrounded by water, are a different kettle of fish when compared to land-locked cultures...but, yes to you...

America - large island, surrounded by water
England - island surrounded by water
Australia - large island surrounded by water

Obama being the most anti war platform ever to enter the White House now is doing the dragging, that in itself should speak of the dire need for action on Syria. Instead people search in the dark for any conspiracy to blame instead of letting the leaders they elected lead.

See that's the big rub now isn't it. We didnt elect #, these puppets were hand selected, dressed up all pretty, provided talking points and masqueraded to the people as bonified options to pick. Oh and I promise their views will be different
Pay no never mind to those who wold provide a counter argument because let's face it, they ain't real contenders.

lol, if the word whiney is confrontational to you, then maybe you need to take a break.

Ghandi didn't live in the United States under the Constitution and pretend it didn't exist. Stay on topic.

The tea party has nothing to do with people whining about not getting to vote if we go to war. It has already been pointed out to you that was before there was a United States with a Constitution. Apples to oranges comparisons are off topic and irrelevant to the discussion.

This whole thread is about whining because of misconceptions on how the system we live under in the United States works.

Whining is very much on topic because we are in the rant section. If someone rants because they don't understand the concepts that caused their rant, it becomes a whine. Ignorance is no excuse.

I'm actually surprised at your analysis on what is being represented on ATS....although I am sure there are some engaging in the kind of discussion's you describe I don't feel it is truly representative of feeling's both on ATS and in the wider community. Speaking from my neck of the wood's I get the message that people in the UK have not felt so close and unified with it's American brother's and sister's as it doe's right now in a very long time.... maybe if one is looking for negativity it becomes more apparent?

It's really funny to see posters come on here and bash us American's after they barely escaped the same fate from there own government
good for you ! but as you can tell even if stuff started popping off here it wouldn't change a thing with Syria because 90 percent of the population wants nothing to do with this. do you honesty think they are going to stop! No the economy isn't stopping them, the people aren't stopping them, the international community isn't stopping them, common sense isn't stopping them, even the threat of nuclear war and WW3 isn't stopping them!

But your right our ar15 rifles against tanks, drones, armored vehicles, detention camps are going to stop the madness. by the way when obama was talking about taking our guns away from us everyone of the people now wanting us to overthrow our government had been all for it! you called us cowboys living in a illusion in the 1800's while hilariously still having a monarchy functional or not. Your whole country size is equivalent to one of our states just one lol. Like minded Europeans come on here and talk about our problems and base their information on how their government handles things while not understanding the size of our problems because we look at the whole problem country wide and your country is the size of maybe one to 5 states depending on the European country we are talking about. Russia and china might know what its like to solve problems on that large of a scale but not any of you do! and yeah Canada is big but it has a lot less people same with Australia

The population of the US is very much larger than Australia's. Australia has 20.8 million people compared to the US population of 299.1 million.

...people search in the dark for any conspiracy to blame instead of letting the leaders they elected lead.

Others LIVE in the dark because they ignore the obvious signs that surround all of us.

Lets not forget that this is ATS, not yahoo answers...

The real reason behind ALL wars is always concealed by lies.

There is nothing new in a government lying to their people to start a war. Indeed because most people prefer living in peace to bloody and horrific death in war, any government that desires to initiate a war usually lies to their people to create the illusion that support for the war is the only possible choice they can make. THE LIE OF THE CENTURY

"All war is based on deception." -- Sun Tzu, The Art of War

"Wars are all based on lies, could not be fought without lies" — Charles M. Young.

“Most wars are engineered by the Illuminati to weaken civilization and create a global police state" The Illuminati want to own and control everyone. They want to be God. They contrived all the revolutions, the world wars, the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, the JFK assassination, 9-11, Iraq and Afghanistan and the "war on terror." ~ Henry Makow Ph.D.

“HISTORY IS A LIE! ALL WARS ARE STARTED ON PURPOSE!

They are just jealous of us because we have a constitution that allows us to make mistakes and correct them without insurrection and revolution.

As Churchill said, "Americans always do the right thing... after they have tried everything else."

Yes and no. First i tried making this thread as a social issue mixed with the syria b.s. .i dont like this in rant, but hey theirs no democracy here. At anyrate America isn't my grandpa america who was at the battle of the bulge. Things have become way more complicated than apple pie u.s.a. we have erroneous blemishes in the world due to our fallacies with the middle east issue. We you see that america is a bizarro america and how two face congress lies and as such you start to ask if this is a bad dream or not. Our collective power can change the world. And right here is where i stop...

I'm not too thrilled with the reaction i got on my thread and frankly I'm embarrassed to no end. I was heated up over personal discussion and made a 'smartphone' thread. Although you members maybe entertained slightly I'm not and i apologize not for my thread. But what may of looked like a hasty jump the gun thread. At least i don't hesitate like obama...ha

Irony overload.

Id say 90% of negative comments are more observations and group feelings than campaigning directly against the USA.

All countries do good things and bad things all the time. Some more than others and bare in mind people see differently from within their own country so take a remote perspective with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, I am an American as well, and I don't like what our country has become, either. It has been going downhill since September 11th, 2001.

Other than the fact that it is warranted, I was going to say, there really is a lot of anti Americanism on ATS, I will give you that.

I don't think I'm really anti-American as I am more of a critic than a praiser. When things are going well, like going to congress for approval on action against Syria, I approve!

Although we could end up going to war with neither U.N. or congressional approval?

You obviosly know little about europe.

Norway/demark/sweadon/finland/germany are hardly failed states and economy wise are in a lot better position than the USA hell some are even running a budget surplus! So i suggest sorting America 16 trillio debt out before classing all europe as completly failed!

American people should decide if we go to war(a voting process ) i apologize to those i have offended at the same time but democracy isn't a real democracy, the right to vote should be a priority instead of a fake luxury

I havent given anyone advice. What you talking about.l I just wondered what this crap was you are talking about. Calm down. Im a friend. I have no problem here. Just asking for clarification.

Sorry!

I'm talking about the failed, socialist, police state utopia that is Europe. I don't want advice from people whose country has long since gone down the drain. That's like getting diet/exercise tips from a fat guy!

Why oh why has this become another of those 'My country is better than yours' threads? And why Seabag are you a) relying on a US-centric view of any country outside of your own and b) lumping all of Europe together as though it is one country?

You really need to chill before starting that nonsense, you've been around long enough to know that you should look at a wider perspective and actually listen to people who live in the rest of the world before throwing out opinions like that.
