If this is true, then Putin must be stupid, or in pursuit of war.

The people of the US do not support going into Syria, The Brits do not support going into Syria, so why is Putin stirring the pot. Does he really want to piss off the US public?

In this day and age, this missile ship doesn't stand a chance, it will be sunk within minutes if any naval battle were to break out, and then what is Russia to do if its presence in the Med is destroyed? Russia has no backup, while the US and the Brits still control the oceans, and most of the Middle East.

Sounds like Putin's corporate masters have decided to move some chess pieces around to get the war they probably want.

The US already has a trained army of drone operators standing by, do you really want to see how crazy things can get?

Its not the ship. Its the weaponry on the ship , and how its handled, that counts.

And the hole gets deeper...

Putin has clearly stated he doesn't support any attacks against Syria if the UN doesn't support it. Obama is foaming at the mouth to attack Syria.. and he's got Frankenstein out there playing the Colin Powel role this time around. If anyone is in pursuit of war.. it is the Obama regime.

I don't think the US public is pissed at Putin. I know like 99.9% of the people I've talked to are strongly against us doing ANYTHING in Syria. Obama seems to think if he throws in "no boots on the ground" then it will make everything okay. I can name 3 people right now who are pissing off the US Public. Obama, Kerry and McCain.

Who is going to attack the Russians? The US? You would have to be a damn fool to do that. Now, I could see Israel trying to pull a USS Liberty against Ivan.. but they couldn't be THAT crazy.. could they?

Do you have some strange auto correct, that replaces Obama with Putin??

Drones? Seriously? Ok.. lets stop for one minute and think here. Syria is an ally of Russia, China and Iran. Syria is very close to Russia. It is NOT very close to the US. A conflict in Syria, involving the United States, who has already agitated the hell out of the Russians with this missile situation in Turkey, would be a big threat to the Russians. It would also be a threat to Iran. And we all know why. I don't need to get into that. Despite what so many seem to think, Russia's military is pretty capable. Better than the US? No.. of course not. But it's not the Republican Guard either. And let us not forget we've been fighting 2 wars for over a decade. We're stretched a little thin. So what in hell do you think a drone is going to do against the Russian military? Do you know what country manufactures some of the most effective surface-to-air missile systems? Yeah.. Russia.

This is not a game. Your talking about some pretty major moves here.. and for what? There has been over 100,000 people killed in the SYRIAN civil war. Now suddenly because chemical weapons were used it matters? To the point where we are going to raise tensions over there to a boiling point?

I didn't see the US crying about red lines when Israel was shelling gaza with white phosphorus... I didn't see the US crying when Iraq was gassing Iran. I didn't see anyone blink when crusty old McCain was meeting with terrorists in Syria (you know.. the guy who cut out the heart of a Syrian christian, and ate it)...

Nope.. don't fear all. The US "Intelligence Community" has all the proof you'll ever need. Oh.. of course they can't SHOW it to you.. just rest easy knowing they HAVE the proof.

I swear, its as if they are sitting in the White House going "let's see how friggin stupid the American public is.. let's see if we can get away with it again".

I'm not even going to get into the fact that the so called "rebels" are the ones who fired the chemical mortars.. We'll just have to conveniently ignore that bit of information like the US does.

No one is going to win if Russia blinks.

better tech = victory

don't worry about that cruiser there is no way the USA can lose to inferior technology.

Correction: They Can ansd this is how.

I read somewhere once that the Russians still used those glow tubes in their circuitry rather than chips.....hopefuly someone can assist here.

Basically, from memory it was because modern day circuitry gets fried and inoppperable in a situation where a Nuetron Bomb or similar takes out the enemies electrical grid and fries all circuits.

In this scenario those that run primitive designed circuits will be able to maintain air superiority.

Picture this: (if it were not that serious it would be funny).

Russia drops a couple nuetron bombs either over the US or mideast frying all electronics everywhere.

They then maintain air superiority with old Migs from the 50's and 60's....LOL

Regardless of what, its still air superiorty.....

I think you are confusing a nuetron bomb with a EMP the former has no tactical advantage from conventional nukes. As far as EMP goes US hardware is hardened against them even most trucks so again no tactical advantage there either.

Excellent post. Russia is going to do nothing. They have done stated they won't go to war for Syria and people must have missed this tidbit playing out in the news today.

I'm thinking not to totally count the Brits out either. Their vote was close and as facts are presented, they may take it up for a vote again.

If they do, I bet it passes.

Great...you just so did not make my day.
I am hoping it all does end up like the Cuban Missile Crisis and that is no WWIII. Perhaps it is just posturing and cooler heads will prevail. I certainly hope so because when I see all the big boy toys they have to play with it makes me want to run out of the sandbox.

This post I found intriguing. Do you think the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya (in conjunction with Egypt, the arab spring, etc) were merely the final pieces being moved into place prior to engaging what could become a more dire situation in Iran and possibly even North Korea?

Does anyone think the freighter with all that military hardware that was intercepted en route from Cuba to North Korea (containing old Russian hardware) has any relevance to the situation, or is it completely unrelated?

Is this paving the way for the middle east peace plan? If so it seems the strategy is to simply remove those that stand in the way to peace. Just my thoughts.

It just occurred to me... Putin doesn't want to get involved. But would he not do the honorable thing as he has promised to defend his ally? So the U.S. has no honor in this at all other than to save face? And yet, another point... if we "go to war" with Russia / China / etc., then wouldn't Obama be allowed to rule indefinitely?

The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive (National Security Presidential Directive NSPD 51/Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-20, sometimes called simply "Executive Directive 51" for short), created and signed by United States President George W. Bush on May 4, 2007, is a Presidential Directive which claims power to execute procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a "catastrophic emergency". Such an emergency is construed as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions." [1]
Directive 51 - Wiki

So it WOULD be in his (Obama's) best interests to escalate a war with Syria (Russia) to stay in power. No?

What! You don't think Putin is just another pawn of the ICBs?

Sink a ship and see how POd the US public gets. Ever read any US history? The Russians aren't about to attack the US either, unless they get orders from their corporate masters.

Drones could decimate Syria, and that is pretty much guaranteed.

I would say the ICBs are planning on winning, no matter which side they back.

Assuming he is the end game. This directive 51 business is disconcerting stuff. Maybe we should be raising awreness about this amongst fellow citizens. The fact that this directive is law is terrifying.

Someone mentioned the possibility of this escalating into Iran and Israel which is obviously more than just a possibility. I recall reading a time article not too long ago that mentioned threats by some big wig in the Republican Guard saying they have a contingency involving sleeper cells in the USA. If this situation were to escalate to involve other hostile groups and countries like the Republican Guard or Hamas, and if these sleeper cells were activated one would assume they would be looking to carry out some sort of attack like 9-11. It is no secret that our greatest weaknesses as a nation are that we are severely divided and our economy is teetering on the brink of insolvency-some may argue. Any attack-even involving only a few coordinated cells-could potentially trigger a ripple effect. If this ripple effect were to get at the heart of our economy this directive 51 thing could come into play. If this comes into play it could really do more harm then good as concerned and patriotic citizens may perceive this to be an attack on our already tarnished constitutional rights, which could in turn further divide this nation possibly even to the point of civil war. Is this sort of scenario beyond the realm of possibility?

Only thing I can say is we need to be praying for our leaders that God would grant them wisdom, integrity, and fortitude to make the right decisions; we should be in touch with our congressmen telling them we don't want war; lastly we should be encouraging our fellow citizens who may be more apathetic about these things to care.

Just my thoughts.

You will see the pro war knuckle heads and rednecks coming out from the woods believing we could win a conflict with russia.

These are the guys, the cannon fodder, generals loves beyond anything else. These cromags, enables the elite to have their precious little wars that can erase all mankind in one day, if needed.

There will be no Syrian children killed/waking up to see there Country destroyed, U.S.A. knows the MASSIVE amounts of ships that will be destroyed by Russian Antiship Missiles/ U.S. military bases in the Mid-East by SS-27 Iskandar-M's that Syria has, and they don;t want NNOO PROBLEMS, all this attention on Syria is to take attention away from Egypt.

as to how i know this. when i first enlisted in the navy back n 86, i was going to be an intelligence specialist. i was trained to recognize all soviet warships, their weapons and ranges, and their radars and their ranges.

If what you say is correct why did Adm. Zimwult say in 78 that a Naval war with the Soviets would sink ALL of our Carriers in 48 hours.

The navy has the capability to stop any deployed anti ship missile with SeaRAM. The Brahmos II is a joint Russian-Indian development so it's actually easier to get information on it. It's not operational yet.

I can assure 100% that U.S.A. has absolutly NOTHING, that can stop the SS-22/27, exept U.S. Scalar weapons which Russia has better of, please show and proove, Iremember how Stellar X used to put you in check with facts back in 08, you just sound like you know what your talkin about, but your just another U.S. Fan-boy, just kick back and lets see if U.S.A. gets away "trying" to bomb another innocent President/Country this time.
