If that is how you read it.

Let me ask you - shouldn't we expect our military to be much more advanced than any other - we spend more in a year than the other top 15 countries combined.

Joe

If that we're true, I will wait for something concrete from you to back that statement up, I guess you would EXPECT that to be the case, it does not mean it is the case. Thats a big gamble to take especially when its not your fight to begin with. I highly doubt other countries would announce what they do or don't have to the rest of the world .

Actually I am bowing out of this one, I feel you are just trying to rile everyon, you are either very young or very naive . I can go anywhere for that.
Good luck to you!

Because the Syrian people haven't been through enough.
Let's just add to their suffering.

You know if we could disrupt Syrian CIC it would basically stop any planned attacks for a time by the Syrian government.

How is that a bad thing??? Assuming we could.

It was Syrian rebels, same ones Obama has sent money and weapons to. The Syrian rebels have admitted to it as well. Maybe Barack needs to get on the phone with his Syrian rebel friends and tell them to cool it?

What I stated is just a fact and is easily checked on any google search - we spend THAT much on our military.
Google it.

Yeah - I am sure ATS know exactly what intel Obama is getting right now.

Joe

Nobody claimed they were in classified briefings. What we do know is public information about Syria and some information that wasn't supposed to be public but is. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Obama and a few strident war hawks are beating this drum. It also doesn't take a lot of research to know that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are also main drivers for this war.

Follow the money and watch the political puppets dance. Believe in el presidente if you want but many of us just don't buy it.

Let me get this right, you essentially want to cripple their entire society in order to help them? Man, you liberals and neo-cons are pieces of work.

Then you cannot know what he knows.

His decisions are therefore based on information you do not have, even if you could decipher them.

He should definitely get the benefit of the doubt it this, right??

No, he's given up any right of support by the American people. As far as "deciphering" his great intel horde he's not a Brainiac, Mephiston or even a (minor) god. Though reading some of your posts obviously you disagree. You know, I'm sure most of us can read as well as he does.

HEY! Watch that potty mouth, I consider myself fairly liberal
Joe's "solution" isn't remotely liberal, that's pure crush-and-destroy Authoritarian.

I am less concerned about supporting or not supporting the president as I am about understanding him.

Why didn't he call Congress back right away?
If he believes he has the authority to attack without Congress' approval, why ask for it?
Why has he waited for 2 years and 100,000 dead to get this worked up?
What does he hope to accomplish, precisely?
If he wants to bomb chemical weapons facilities, why has he given them such advance notice? They can be moved or surrounded by civilians. Even if he hits one, doesn't that send clouds of gas into the air?
Who is he supporting in this struggle?
Why does he think they have a chance?

In the words of Sarah Palin:

“So we’re bombing Syria because Syria is bombing Syria? And I’m the idiot?” Mrs. Palin asked on Friday. “President Obama wants America involved in Syria’s civil war pitting the antagonistic Assad regime against equally antagonistic Al Qaeda affiliated rebels. But he’s not quite sure which side is doing what, what the ultimate end game is, or even whose side we should be on.”

Mm, that's quite the easy target you're making yourself out to be. Anyone against this move doesn't know squat because we cannot know what POTUS knows, but you can have enough info to base a rash weapons choice on. Funny how that position of yours seems to be insinuating you know more than others.

From What McCain said we seem to know that the "Free Syrian Army" is the main force and that they are not rabid muslims; I think if we were just using conventional weapons we should have already struck - but just maybe if we were to use EMPs or some such weapon it would not matter the time delay - because we would strike to turn off all their electronics at once over some area - that is what I am hooping for- for several reasons.

If that is how you see it - my weapons choice is that of a weapon that does not officially exist and in fact one that I only HOPE that exists.

To the contrary, I would say it is actually very inline with much of today's mainstream liberal thinking, and I would urge you to rethink your adherence to such a nasty and hypocritical ideology. Maybe the OP is a bit more extreme, or honest (depending how you look at it), than your average liberal. But the theory is the same, that injustices can directly or indirectly provide justice.

I never was a liberal, per se, but I've always been and still am a Lefty. I just prefer the more classical style of Leftism of which is rooted consistently in and stands firmly upon: anti-authoritarianism, anti-war, anti-capitalism and anti-inequality. Liberals, on the other hand, (even those pesky "Liberal-Socialists") are very much so in favor of capitalism (though state regulated), big authoritarian government, war and inequality. They represent a form of "Totalitarian Humanism", which in my mind, is far more dangerous than any other ideology. It can kill people, it can disenfranchise people, it can rob and exploit people, all in the name of "helping them". It's the idea that the end justify the means.

Nasty, just plain nasty.

SO does the end ever justify the means - what about in Europe in WWII or Japan in WWII - didn't the ends justify the means then - or would you prefer to have a million more dead American kids at Kyoshu or in operation Coronet be preferable - how many millions of Japanese killed would have been preferable to you exactly??
