I've seen a lot of hate against Japan in these forums and stupid theories like they are doing a mass-kamikaze to destroy the world. Is that what some people seriously believe? Japan has changed a lot since pre-war and their post-war initiatives and lifestyle is entirely different. I get that it's slightly socialistic but they still have more freedom and respect for their constitution than the US.

Japan is filled with kind people and it has the least amount of crimes per capita in the world. Sure, there's a minor voyeur problem with perverts on public transportation but that's about it. There's no need for strange conspiracy theories that involve your average Japanese citizen wanting to seek revenge over Nagasaki and Hiroshima. There's maybe a hand full of people that hate Americans because of that, the rest of the population see it as a lesson from the past to not recreate.

If you hate Japan because of whaling then that's not a very good reason since the majority through polls, claim that they don't approve of whaling and those that do tend to not understand that a lot of whale meat is wasted. But if you want to hate Japan for the leaks, then look at yourselves and wonder if they hate Americans because of the American arrogance? The American arrogance, while some of it is by your every day person thinking that they are the best and America is the best, the majority of it comes from the government's decisions and its corporate affiliates. This is what Japan has to deal with, there are protests left and right, and they tend to hate how their government lied to them, and screwed up time after time. At this point they have to suffer for the mistakes of corporate greed and political corruption.

So hating the Japanese because of what happened with the plant is about the same as a foreign country hating the US because of PRISM. It wasn't the people's fault that it happened so please stop with the hate.

I'm sorry that I couldn't make a great post but my brain shut down today because I have overslept like crazy but I couldn't just sit around with these thoughts stuck in my mind after reading a bunch of anti-Japanese posts. So my only request is that you take it for what it is and understand that Japan isn't a bad country, it has its leaders doing bad decisions just like us and every other country. Thank you.

Its not Japan we hate,or the poor regular Japanese-we hate the almost surreal level of ineptitude of Tepco-we hate that 2years have gone by before they even started admitting how screwed the situation is,at Fukushima-and that in the long run, millions will be screwed by Tepco's unwillingness to call out loudly+urgently for help on a global scale when they realised they could'nt handle this situation alone.
Hate the Japanese? No,oh no-pity,yes.That we have plenty of-pity,sympathy and wondering what is going to become of the population.
Why the Imperial family didn't lean on Tepco to get all+any help internationally available is another thing I don't understand, but I admit I don't know much about the power dynamics there.
But rest assured I would adopt a Japanese family any day if it ever got so bad the population had to ditch the country and move elsewhere. We feel no hatred for Japan-its a piece of soil on the planet-and we feel despreately sorry for the population, the regular people.
Tepco is another matter-and any+all individuals responsible for letting the radioactive pollution continue for this long without screaming for help. They should be up for crimes against the entire human race.

I've never heard of this "theory," and quite frankly, it's childish and absurd! The whole Fukushima meltdown thing is damaging to them first and foremost...not exactly an attack on the world (maybe as a side-effect only, if you want to see it that way.) I mean, did anyone think that Chernobyl was some kind of pre-emptive strike on the rest of us? Thought not!

Yes, there will always be those that claim Katrina was god's punishment for this and that Sandy was god's wrath for that...but it's a minority of scum that nobody worth 2 or more brain cells should pay any mind to. To think that Fukushima was a calculated kamikaze attack is just...quite ignorant indeed.

And no, no one wants revenge for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Otherwise, Godzilla, a metaphor for the bomb, would probably have been attacking the rest of the world instead of Japan.

I don't see any mainstream kamikaze-like culture coming out of Japan.

Japan is my second home. Sadly, she has a seedy underbelly.
There are many things about Japan which I find abhorrent.
I do hate her for the unnecessary whaling and dolphin slaughter.

Fukushima is not Japan's fault, but the government has infuriated the people, with their deception.
There are anti nuke protests all the time there now.
Protesting....wow.
Unheard of there really.

That being said, hatred for Japan is long standing.People said horrid things after the EQ.
It was fun to do, until it seemed it could affect all of us.
So now they lash out as if they did it on purpose.
Ignorance will always prevail it seems
I ignore it

I don't hate Japan or the Japanese people. Japanese people have, since World War II, become some of the kindest and warmest people in the world. (camera carrying tourists aside..lol)

My feelings are reserved for just a few specific Japanese. Those in the Tokyo Government who are in a position to see and know all the data coming out of Fuku, all along. Of course, the rest is 100% for TEPCO management. I don't even dislike TEPCO workers. Who can?? We all should recall the "Fukushima 50". What more could possibly be asked of the workers?? If only they had people managing the situation who had the same priorities we all 'assume' they do. They insult the sacrifice of those normal people.

I do not hate Japan, it is Tepco that I have issue with. I sympathise with the ordinary Japanese population, they have been so badly treated in all of this. They need help from all nations that have expertise in dealing with this disaster to try and limit the radiation leakages.

It's not quite the same thing. PRISM is beyond our control. A better example would be the wall street mortgage securities scandal...it's a matter of greed.

The Tepco management was told by their own workers at least 2 years before the disaster that it could happen and they did nothing in those 2 years to prevent it from happening, so there is plenty of reason to hate that kind of greed and complacency on the Tepco management team.

In contrast, another nuclear power plant that was even closer to the Earthquake survived without any meltdowns. Why? Because the Japanese executive responsible for constructing the plant was not motivated entirely by greed, but rather insisted that extra money be spent to build the plant in a safer manner. Both construction sites initially had significant elevations above sea level, but at the disaster site they leveled the bluffs to lower the elevation of the facility because it was the cheaper option. At the site that survived, they spent more money to build the plant on the bluffs, and it survived the tsunami...Local residents even used the nuclear facility as an emergency shelter.

So obviously we see one management team did things right, another management team did things wrong, so it's obviously not a problem with all of Japan...however Japanese culture does have some bigger problems than some other countries with regulators not regulating as they should...but the USA and other countries are guilty of this too, though perhaps not to the same extent.

But the main point of the OP I agree with, that the Japanese are wonderful people if you get to know them, and most have nothing to do with the disaster. They do need to insist on some changes in regulation and many are actually doing that, so that's as it should be...I hope the changes are successful.

I thank you all for listening to my rant and am happy to hear that all of you so far are mainly angry at TEPCO and not the everyday Japanese person. I hold Japan very close to my heart, and while I may not be Japanese it pains me to see so much hate. Thankfully ATS is pretty well moderated compared to other places like youtube which is a cesspool of racism. Some Americans can't get over pearl harbor and don't realize that the Americans got their revenge ten-fold. But Again, I'm happy to see such a positive response from you guys and I thank you for being so open minded about this.

Ahh, meet a few yakuza, and it may change your mind.
The culture is seeped in yakuza control.
There is also still an element of prejudice.
You have to live there as a foreigner to know this. It's not something you gleen during two weeks there as a tourist.
Its also much more acutely obvious to women, as opposed to men.

Don't worry.

The US and Israel are Satan on ATS.

Japan has no worries here.
