Are you sure you didn't create that in paint or something?
It's just usually a screen cap would include the open tabs/links/time etc.

Not saying you are purposefully spreading disinformation, just curious I guess considering no other members (so far) claim to have seen this as well.

Probably not, I don't know any Marines that go to that webpage. That's more an information and recruitment site for the general public.

They should have done this site:
Marines.mil

And they should have done it around noon eastern standard time.

Do the Marines know how to operate computers?

I wonder how many this message reached.

Perhaps the best way a Government can mitigate an attempt to show how unhappy their military personal are about the current Syria situation, is to contrive that the site was hacked.

This allows them to discredit any efforts showing decent and also laying the premise that important infrastructure sites like the Marines can be hacked.

Why not throw in that it was Syrian hackers , just so that you can build a prima facie case supporting a takedown of the power grid for example and use the ensuing chaos and enraged American's to push forward you aspirations for the intervention in Syria with all the oil and gas goodies just sitting for the picking.

Time to learn how they play the game of deceit and subterfuge on the American people , and hey it works , just look at your history.
These are the big boy's with billions of dollars at stake , not to mention the need to cull a few million people here and there.

Pretend they aren't real if you like, but whoever is doing these hacks is flexing their muscle so to speak and just hinting at what they can really do. After all, weren't we warned a massive cyber attack was coming? And we all know that just because the government has intel something is going to happen doesn't mean they will do anything to stop it does it?

True. Or possibly this is them at their very best and all they are able to pull-off is temporarily hijacking a few websites. We can't really tell at this stage, can we?

Again, who knows. But i for one would take a cyber terrorist group backed by Iran and China working through a Syria agency as knowledgable and quite dedicated to their tasks. At this point the real question isn't if this is the best they can do but is this the beginning of what they can do.

Then there is the general information that says most of Syria's internet traffic runs through Turkey which could muffle the source and the allegiance of the group.

Assuming you believe that sort of thing.

This is one more step to the government having to regulate and shut down the internet for 'the good of the people'. Why would they only hack the Marines and no one else? That to me is what makes no sense. Why one and not all?

The internet is far too profitable to the nation for them to just shut it down. It would be like chopping off a foot, one that we not only rely on for commerce and economic growth but also for communication and intelligence gathering. In the end the best control they have is the internet, it used to be television and newspapers and now its a combination of both with a vast encyclopedia and porn store built in.

Gotta love progress

This probably reached more 'to-be' Marines rather than actual Marines. Most people don't surf the internet in their free time to go look at their job's website very often. I know I don't. But then again, I'm not of the military.
