New Techie Thingies

In the past week or two my mind has been pondering
in the direction of new technology... so I went
digging around on-line reading and having fun.
I thought I would share some of the interesting
new thingies I came upon on my little discovery
adventure.

I personally have always enjoyed the threads
that show a list of things all in one little
thread so I am going to follow the same format.

For anyone interested enjoy... and plz add
any new little techie ideas or inspirations
you have seen that you feel like
contributing here too. There are plenty
out there to find if you go searching...

Here are just a few that were the most
interesting to me. I wonder if we will
ever see some of these or if they are
already in use ! ?

Intelligent Roads

Piezoelectric materials can harness vibrations and
pressure from passing cars and convert that energy into
usable power. In 2008, a rail station in Japan used
piezoelectrics in its floors to take advantage of the
vibrations from footsteps, generating enough power to
run holiday displays. In 2009, an Israeli company
tested these materials in a 10-meter strip of road
and reported generating an average of 2,000 watts,
enough to theoretically power 30 60-watt lightbulbs.
And now, the California Energy Commission is currently
studying whether piezoelectric materials will be
economically feasible to use on the state’s roads.

Glow In The Dark Roads

Daan Roosegaarde, founder of international design lab Studio
Roosegaarde, based in the Netherlands, has another
energy-saving idea: roads that glow. With the help
of engineers from Heijmans, one of the largest road
builders in Europe, he and his designers developed
a highly photo-luminescent paint for delineating
lanes that charges enough in sunlight (even on cloudy days)
to glow bright green for up to 10 hours at night.
Roosegaarde plans to build a 300-meter-long
prototype road to demonstrate both the glow-in-the-dark
paint and another paint they’ve developed—one that
changes from transparent to blue as the temperature
drops below 32°F to warn drivers of icy conditions.
Other untested ideas go further: lights that switch
on as a vehicle nears and roadside wind turbines
propelled by updrafts from passing cars.

Conductive Ink

A ball point pen uses a silver-based ink
which conducts eletricity through the lines
that are drawn onto paper, wood, plastic
and textiles.

Silicon Sutures

"smart" electronic silicon sutures. These sutures
can monitor sutured sites for infection, and even
help in the healing process.

These sutures can detect if the wound site
goes above room tempearture indicating a
possible infection. They in turn heat
the site which may help to heal an
infection.

Liquid Metal Marbles

Drops of liquid metal with a nanoparticle coating.
Heat and impact resistant, with conductive cores to be
used for flexible electronics.

Navigational Device

A tiny chip called a timing and intertial
measurement unit (TIMU) that works when GPS
does not.

It is made of three gyroscopes, three accelerometers
and a master clock crunched into 10 cubic
millimeters. The devices measure orientation,
acceleration and time.

Minisub for Medical use

Tiny minisub vehicles that can travel
through the human body to take pictures
of your insides, take tissue samples and
even deliver drugs.

Buoy Security System

A bouy system that can communication in "real"
time to the shore. This type of system
would be able to track small vessels that
could be carrying threats.

The system uses radiation detectors and video
cameras to find and track potentially dangerous
vessels. Each buoy also carries sensors that
detect weather and water conditions for
environmental research.

Some interesting THINGIES

The piezo device is stealing. The energy gained is energy stolen from the car.

The conductive pen. Similar to the conductive paint i use on circuit boards. Wait till the kiddies discover they can hot wire a car with a pen

Good Point !

But no one else is currently utilizing the energy being created by the vibrations that the car is creating. LOL.

So we should each get to utilize the energy from our own cars and no one else can touch it ! ? HaHa. Let's force them to create a way to store that energy into a personal storage bank to use as we choose or plz. Could this be Free Energy !

Or lets make it so that the energy created can only be used to supply free forms of energy to the general public ?

Problem is.. they created the technology so in order to capture the energy... we would have to create the device that traps and stores it.

Great stuff, read article on the paint being used on you house and roof and powering your home. They were also working on the paint for your auto that would charge the batteries even while you were driving.

What is interesting to me is the free energy movement or as some like to call it the tesla or aether energy movement. They are working on free energy for the world which was teslas dream. They are trying to draw on the energy that is all around us all the time.

Tesla had mastered it they say, he was set to transmit free energy through the air around the world when they pulled the funding and ultimately stold his work. He was resurrecting the work of the ancients he believed. He theorized the great pyramid and obelisk around the earth were used to distribute energy and tesla was set to beam free energy to everyone. Would that not be wonderful.

Great thread

Liquid Metal Marbles

I just realized... my video under the liquid metal marbles doesn't work... so I'm trying to place it again...lol

sorry folks
hope it works this time

Ooh that is interesting ! I had to go find more information on the paint for the house energy thingie...

news.discovery.com...

At Notre Dame, professor of chemistry and biochemistry Prashant Kamat led a group that found a mixture of nanometer-sized titanium dioxide particles, coated with either cadmium sulfide or cadmium selenide and suspended in a water-alcohol mixture to create a paint-like paste that generates electricity when exposed to light. They gave it a name: Sun-Believable.

Tell me about it ! I needed one of these when my GPS stopped working last week. I was out of town and in an unfamiliar area that I had never visited before... and the GPS device quit working.

All though with one of these little creatures they don't spout off directions... yet... maybe one day

the technology is to help U.S. troops avoid navigational mishaps on military missions. It is meant to kick into gear when GPS is temporarily down or unavailable--it is not designed to replace GPS

Really interesting thread leolady, who knew!

Minisub for Medical use
I wonder if they might use this as a 'failsafe' method in spys, sort of an auto destruct should they go rogue, or be captured?

OMG Ewe ! That would be morbid. Detonation of mini sub in spys. Ooh My !

These things could be inserted without anyone even knowing... i guess.

They are small enough to fit in blood vessels so who knows what they could be doing with this technology ?

I think I remember a past thread regarding stuff being inserted without our knowledge via vaccines and what not.
Well I guess we see here that we do have the technological capability for such things to be inserted.

Me hopes this technological advancement will stay more on the positive side with uses to help people instead of harm... but we know there are usually two sides to every coin.. so to speak.

Mini sub? That sounds awesome!

I wonder, if you packed enough of these with explosives, and programmed them to congregate around the base of the neck, around the spinal cord and so on, could you blow a persons head off with them?

I only ask because... well, I guess Im just curious!

But a car engine is giving out a lot of energy in ways that don't contribute to the motion of the vehicle. The engine can be heard, the motion of the pistons is creating vibrations in the body of the car. So that energy is already lost.

True, but this isn't lost energy! It's taken by forcing the car to do extra work to push itself across the device, therefore its stealing it. If the device were not there the car would not lose that energy. That said, it is a very small amount, so small we wouldnt even notice it. However, if we dont keep an eye on them they'll start putting so many of these devices down that we WOULD notice it

Justin Hall-Tipping TED Talk from 2011
www.ted.com...

He talks about various applications of nanotech.
Creating a type of nightvision that collects IR energy at night converts it into a electron (about 6 Minutes in).

Also, energy that doesn't come from the grid.

Nice post OP, some good stuff.. haven't read all the comments so probably posted but I thought of these 3 straight off:

Piezoelectric Tyres / Tires..
Suspension Electricity Generation..
Magnetic Oil: Easy Spill Cleanup and added lube: may be worth searching youtube for the BBC show: Dara O Briain's Science Club.. The show was only a few days ago unless it was a repeat so maybe not up - was very impressive - other odd materials too...
