This is amazing to say the least, there are a huge amount of children and young adults that are being wrongfully diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and here is a perfect example of the "doctors" getting it wrong.

Schools put genius child in special ed, tell mom he can’t learn. Now he’s free, and he’s on track to win a Nobel Prize.

A genius boy whose IQ is higher than Albert Einstein is on his way to possibly winning a Nobel Prize after being set free of special education programs in public schools. His mother made the decision to take him out of the programs, even after having doctors diagnose him with ADD and say that her son Jacob Barnett would never even learn to tie his shoes.

She describes in her book “The Spark: A Mother’s Story of Nurturing Genius” that she was afraid of trying to pull him out of school. “For a parent, it’s terrifying to fly against the advice of the professionals. But I knew in my heart that if Jake stayed in special ed, he would slip away.”

Jacob was not thriving in special ed classes. He kept turning deeper into himself and was uncommunicative with other people. His doctors diagnosed ADD and prescribed medical treatment for the boy. When he wasn’t in therapy though, his mother noticed him doing amazing things. “He would create maps all over our floor using Q-tips. They would be maps of places we’ve visited and he would memorize every street.”

Jake dropped out of elementary school in the 5th grade. His incredible memory allowed him to attend university classes after he learned all of high school math in two weeks. Now he’s on track to graduate from college at age 14 and working on theories to build on Einstein’s theory of relativity.

Here are a few facts to help parents to recognize what is going on, and sometimes "trusting" the diagnosis of others can destroy a child.

Younger kids may wrongly be diagnosed with ADD.

How mature a child is compared to his peers may partly determine how likely he is to be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to a new study. This finding validates concerns that the condition is misdiagnosed, researchers say.

"We believe that younger children may be mistakenly diagnosed as having ADHD, when in fact they are simply less mature," study researcher Melinda Morrill said in a statement.

The characteristic behaviors associated with ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, according to the National Institutes of Health. Rising rates of ADHDand large differences in diagnosis rates have led to fears that the condition is not accurately diagnosed.

Accurate diagnosing is crucial, the researchers say, because stimulant medicationsare often prescribed as a treatment for ADHD. The stimulants have side effects, including insomnia, stomachache, headache, dizziness and decreased appetite, and they have been shown to increase heart rates and blood pressure. Little is known about their long-term effects.

Youngest are 50 percent more likely to get ADHD diagnosis
The new findings are consistent with those of another forthcoming study that suggests children born just before the kindergarten cutoff date are 50-percent more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than those born just after, Morrill and her colleagues write in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Health Economics.

www.nbcnews.com...

There are literally thousands of cases where children are tormented, bullied, etc,. because of being in special needs classes, that have no real reason to be there. We are literally ignoring childrens real special needs by allowing for group think, and also group diagnosis. We are drugging kids that are in no way in need for these drugs, that of course have lasting effects, but also demeaning them, and making them feel "stupid", when most children are simply looking to be allowed to flourish and learn.

I think its time for us to rethink the entire education/medical diagnosis fields and institutions and start giving our children a chance.

Peace, NRE.

Yeah, because a kid who learns differently isn't learning at all, school officials
Obviously, he THRIVES in a different environment, and I hope they like crow. Lots of it. Flourish, kiddo, you'll go on to great things

adhd or add is not even a real thing to begin with, . I'm am glad this kid was put on the right track though. He is lucky he had a parent that cared enough to do the right thing. It is sad to say parents like that are becoming fewer and farther between. I hate pill companies.

Its heartbreaking to think how many other children are sitting in a class room zoned out on meds, that all they wanted to do was be expressive, and learn, but because they didnt do it like others they are shunned and forced to mentally rot away until group think sets in

I was held back in first grade, and they recommended I go into special ed.

Heres what happened, we moved to a new school mid 1st grade year, the teacher gave me the math book and said we would be doing that.

I finished it cover to cover, I was put in the corner and told I was in trouble because now she had nothing else for me to do for the rest of the year...

SO guess what young Benrl did who even than hated abuse of authority, I did NOTHING, and I mean nothing, I would stare blankly at the teacher every time she talked, not responding.

In a way it was my Gandhi like protest to the unfairness of it.

So I get held back, next year same thing, parents get told I am mentally disabled, parents take me to Psychologist and various doctors.

Colleges level Math and Reading comprehension, IQ over 140.

So yeah, this happens.

If your different you will be diagnosed, its that simple. Why? Because the purpose of school is to produce a standardized citizen that does as its told. If your different you might start asking awkward questions!

15 years in school, and when they come out they have to be trained to flip burgers in Mac D's.
FIFTEEN YEARS!

What a waste!

I had the same problem, except I was more or less rebellious as well, I skipped most classes, but kept passing all my tests so there was nothing they could do if I was passing, and wasnt around to get into trouble, I was considered a problem child, but got skipped twice, they had no idea what to do with me.

Now as a parent I home-school, and I am fully aware that I raised my children to be individuals and that caused me to pull them out of school early as they were already being prepped for "special classes". I pulled my daughter out of school the day that she got in trouble for arguing over what discovered meant in the Christopher Columbus story.

After she wrote a paper about how she saw it, which she failed, she was asked why she felt that way, so she began "discovering" things (which meant taking) to prove her point and I was called in, and I never brought her back, needless to say she is flourishing, she is well above her grade average, and she takes no nonsense.

Most doctors are idiots. Whenever I absolutely have to go to one, I take what they say, then go home and research their diagnosis myself.
They are way too easy and willing to throw out the ADD diagnoses, write a script for adderral and get the kick back from the drug company and possibly screw up a kid for the rest of their life.

I've gotta agree with this. 3 1/2 years ago I got really sick. I got misdiagnosed and the drugs they wanted me on were literally killing me. I went through 12 different specialists. 9 were idiots. 3 were brilliant. There was no 'inbetween'.

That being said ... I'm glad we homeschooled our daughter.
The crap teaching that is going on in the city schools here and the misbehavior of the kids is spooky!

Makes you wonder how many other geniuses the system has destroyed. Disgusting.

You have to wonder if this whole autism thing is an evolutionary leap in process. Maybe we're witnessing the birth of the next species of human.

I agree, and I guess that would fall under "indigo" children, though I didnt add that for obvious (people think its crazy) reasons I figured HUGE mistakes like this will give ALL opportunities and research a fair shot.

This makes that person who wrote that obscene letter recently about their "normal" kids, versus the autistic child, look extremely bad. If all autism is a person who over-thinks everything and pays attention to everything, that person may in fact be a genius.

Nearly One Million Children Per Year Misdiagnosed With ADD/ADHD

What if we thought of every children diagnosed with ADD/Autism and thought of them as actually needing to adapt to show their full potential, what kind of children are NOW being born, and why is the gov and medical industry trying to down play it?

Certainly after watching the above video in the OP I would rather have this child running our country then the violent men that currently do.

The lecture itself was worthy of a nobel prize.

"Stop learning and start thinking."

That's brilliant. It explains, very elegantly, why so many, who are accredited, act like morons - it's because they really are morons - they have simply memorized other peoples' thoughts.

Thanks, Kid.

I found a related video in which he speaks about the 4th dimension. He says he thinks in the 4th dimension. I totally understand this and I am sure many here will as well.

Seriously how many people here, right now on ATS have some or all of these symptoms??

Difficulties staying on task - People who have attention deficit disorder are easily distracted by what is going on around them. This can make for problems in a traditional classroom setting.

Inattentiveness - A tendency to get lost in their own world. Time may pass before they become aware again. Chunks of time can be "lost" when this occurs.

Excessive Talking

Excessive interruptions and intrusions on other's conversations and personal space.

Aggression - Some people with ADHD are aggressive with other people and may seem "pushy".

Difficulty finishing projects - Someone with attention deficit hyperactivitiy disorder may have multiple projects that are only partially done. Many children with ADHD do not complete their homework or do not turn it in when done.

Type "A" personality - May go so far as to take risks without thinking of the consequences.

Forgetfulness - This can affect doing projects that take steps to complete, missing appointments, forgetting names and places...

Hyperactivity - It may seem that a person with ADHD cannot sit still. In fact, many can't be completely still. If forced to sit or stand in one place, a child or adult may tap their fingers, chew on a pencil, bounce a ball... or do anything to keep themselves in action.

Note: Many with ADHD defy the typical signs and instead exhibit a tendency to daydream or appear to be "lazy".

The Symptoms of Autism:

Inability to empathize with other people - A lack of an understanding of the emotions and reactions of the people around them.

Inability to communicate with others - this varies in degree from having trouble staying on the subject of conversation to an inability to communicate at all. This may not only impact social interaction, but education as well.

Repetitive Behaviors - This may involve actively repeating the same actions or saying the same sound, word or phrase over and over again.

Obsession with putting things in a straight line - A tendency to line things up and be wildly upset if the line is disrupted is a sign of autism.

Isolation - Someone who is autistic may seem to be in their own world. In fact, many who have autism will panic or over-react to stimulation.

Hyperfocusing - A child or adult might stare at one object for lengthy amounts of time.

autismarticles4me.blogspot.com...

Now with the above in mind. I would like ATS members to "diagnose" what we think this is.

Because to me this sounds and looks like almost all people (in the conspiracy field) that I know, whether here or in real life. This is an awakening at an earlier age of things that surround them, such as a distress, world events, and close themselves off to it.

Im sorry but this truly upsets me.
Peace, NRE.

I don't think you want to know what all has been done but it all depends on which time period you want to look at it in terms of what was done with geniuses. There's all sorts of forms of special education but a kid with Down's in a special ed program has more legal rights than a genius in a special ed program. That right there should be a red flag.

In terms of evolution and autism, that's something that I've considered but I'm biased.
