Terminal 4 at Londons Heathrow Airport is host to a new security system for checking passengers for weapons and the like. It bounces X-Rays off people
and enables (via a computer screen) customs officers to view the individual without clothes on! This is so that any hard object can be spotted which
conventional techniques fail to find, including ceramic knives and plastic explosives.
The trial runs until the new year, any passengers refusing to comply recieve an immediate hand search. Implentation to US airports wont start until a
way of cencoring sensitive parts becomes available (americans are shy). Anyway, what a great job, sitting around all day checkin out naked chicks
hehe.

Is this not a violation of privacy though?
I can imagine alot of people not wanting to go through that thing being able to see all your "Sensitive areas" why dont they just say "Sausage"
and "Teacake" and "melons" instead of sensitive areas!

Just to be clear, I think its not X-ray, but Terahertz radiation that is used for this. This is how its was reported long ago when first developed.
just goes to show the journalistic standards of ananova.
Why don't they just use the girl with x-ray vision to do this!
edit to add
hmm, wonder how the muslim community is going to react to having their womens naked images seen. Or the conservative christians for that matter.

I think once you've seen one days worth of Sausage, Teacake and Melons of varing ripness, you get desensitized. The states won't allow the device,
since child porn will be involved even if it is just a mono-colour image. We have politicians that cover the naked breasts on marble statues because
they find it offensive.

It was developed in the Uk by Qinetiq. Here are their original press releases
www.qinetiq.com...
www.qinetiq.com...
It uses existing background radiation to generate the image rather than a dedicated source, people are therefore not exposed to any more radiation
than they would be anyway.

I think they might be using it in the US tho. I recall, months ago, when the tech was first announced, that it was revealed in the US by a US
transportation bureau.

where do we draw the line when it comes to being safe or retaining our dignity. granted, there are some who don't mind being seen naked, but others
do. i personally wouldn't mind it, cause it's not that great of a picture anyway; you'd have to be pretty twisted to be turned on by that!

They can already do a strip search and a cavity search, so this really isn't much of an invasion at all.

I have to agree with you here 100%. So sad what we have to give
up to obtain safety/security.
I hope that they check these screeners to be certain that they are
not perts!

They are/can really doing this?

Everyone here isn't seeing the "big" picture. Sure there might be some attractive people boarding the airplane, but you are also going to see a lot
of stuff that would make you skip lunch. I believe that the good is outweighed by the bad. Besides it's really just a computer generated simulation
of people. You aren't actually seeing anything for real.

I dunno...There are plenty of people who are happy with their simulations...

An honest citizen does not mind submitting to search or providing positive id like dna or doing all their finaces with cedit cards so the irs nows
everything and expects that their being video monitered.
I just tried to paraphrase owell how did I do
