Just came across this article...

Royal Navy vessels are being readied to take part in a possible series of cruise missile strikes, alongside the United States, as military commanders finalise a list of potential targets. Government sources said talks between the Prime Minister and international leaders, including Barack Obama, would continue, but that any military action that was agreed could begin within the next week. As the preparations gathered pace, William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, warned that the world could not stand by and allow the Assad regime to use chemical weapons against the Syrian people “with impunity”. Britain, the US and their allies must show Mr Assad that to perpetrate such an atrocity “is to cross a line and that the world will respond when that line is crossed”, he said. British forces now look likely to be drawn into an intervention in the Syrian crisis after months of deliberation and international disagreement over how to respond to the bloody two-year civil war. Yes, I know its a Christian website. That has nothing to do with the facts, so if you're going to hate-monger about Christianity, please do so elsewhere or you'll be reported to a mod.

And, just to add...

... the government of Syria is involved in ongoing hostilities with so-called “rebels” who are CIA mercenaries consisting primarily of al-Nusra and al-Qaeda terrorists and shelling enemy positions is normal activity during war.

Kerry’s remarks on Monday are a precursor to a WMD rationale. It will be reminiscent of the Bush administration’s WMD pretext prior to the invasion of Iraq. Despite then Secretary of State Colin Powell’s ludicrous theatrics at the United Nations when he famously wagged a model vial of anthrax and presented other fabricated evidence like mobile biological weapon labs, it was clearly determined before and after the invasion that Iraq did not possess nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

The video can be seen HERE, along with the full article.

A House committee in 2004 identified “237 misleading statements about the threat posed by Iraq that were made by President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld, Secretary Powell, and National Security Advisor Rice. These statements were made in 125 separate appearances, consisting of 40 speeches, 26 press conferences and briefings, 53 interviews, 4 written statements, and 2 congressional testimonies.” According to the committee, at least 61 separate statements “misrepresented Iraq’s ties to al-Qaeda.” A Senate investigation in 2006 also found the Bush administration and its coterie of neocons had lied to the American people.

Prior to the first Iraq invasion perpetuated by the Bush senior administration, a fraudulent story surfaced during a congressional hearing held on October 10, 1990, claiming that Iraqi soldiers had thrown babies from incubators after invading Kuwait. Following the invasion of Iraq it was learned that the girl who testified before Congress about the incident was in fact the 15-year old daughter of a Kuwaiti emir. She had been coached by the public relations firm Hill and Knowlton to provide false testimony and thus provide valuable pre-war propaganda.

What do you think, ATS?

Murder is justified by more murder, right?

If you can stomach it - turn on the news channels tonight and listen to the propaganda being pushed - with a lot of it being - "obama won't act - he doesn't have the balls - he already drew the line in the sand - and look at all the children being killed by the terrorist Assad" I'm paraphrasing, of course.

A gallop poll showed the percent of americans that were pro syrian military intervention was 9% - even less favorable than congress.

How many "children" is the US going to kill with these strikes? Just to cover up their web of lies that seem to be unraveling quickly - if you get your info from a varied sort of media, all over the world.

This is so sickening.

Not sure I understand the question?

The title seems to be asking if we think a physical conflict between Syria and western powers is going to actualize.

The post seems to make comparisons to the supposed reasons the united states engaged Iraq (WMDs).

As for the title, I think there is definitely a lot of pressure building up. Look what happened with North Korea recently though. We all thought things were escalating, and nothing happened.

The thing with war is, the public knows very little. Right now, very few people know the answer to the question in the title. We can reasonably speculate, but that is all.

Despite the drastic build up of tension, I still think it is too early to tell. Which is the same thing Assad said basically. We don't know how this will play out yet.

As for the comparisons to us engaging Iraq and using WMDs as a justification.....well, I certainly see similarities. Scary, isn't it?

What is even scarier to me isn't the realization that we might be sending air strikes into Syria...what is scary is to actually ponder what might really be the reasons why we are doing so.

Is it pipeline/petro dollar related? Simply geopolitics? Who is really the force behind this western push for war , is it US or Israel, or maybe Saudi Arabia?

If anything, the only thing I can say for sure is how LITTLE any of us really know.

People are sick to their stomachs of the foreign policies of US and UK. It's not our business for one, and our involvement in the region has NEVER made anything better. To make matters worst they usually have to depend on lies and trickery to find a means to get their asses over there.

Uncle israel is running out of tricks in his playbook and his useful idiots (our politicians) are pretty much now figured out by their constituents. Now Russia is getting more bold in calling out Obama. There is nothing but bad news if we commit to this crap again, it's got to stop.

You are very right in what you say, Police are well aware that if the UK go to war in the M East we will see shops burned down and riots on streets much worse than in 2011 all over the UK, we cannot find money for elderly or sick, let alone war in UK.

I just don't understand why America is such a warmongering nation.

They are not the police of the world, as much as they would like to think they are.

Just because they can, does not mean that they should.

Given the amount of national debt the good ol' USA has, perhaps it should start sorting out it's own issues. Rather than dragging in allied nations into another grossly expensive, unnecessary conflict, that obviously nobody wants.

Oh! That's right, Syria has oil too doesn't it.

What do you think, ATS?

Syria has been in the plans for years...Russia kind of messed up our plans for a quick and easy...You asked what we thought? I received an email that had a video about region 3 in the USA and having to complete food and water supplies by Oct. 1, 2013....So just off the cuff I will predict with the info I have nothing will happen until after the first of Oct....if at all...

America and the allies who seem to want to invade never do it with a real foe if they really cared about human suffering and not oil or blocking China N. Korea would have been taken out long ago...

Russia could be a real foe unless there are some back room agreements...Would America and others invade Syria if they knew it would cost them London or N.Y. ? I do not think so in a sane world..

Anyway, interesting video that might mean something or not????

There are several threads running about the Syrian government not doing the gas attack with videos and everything....It does not matter...Neither you nor I have all the facts except that if an attack happens there is a possibility that things will get worse not better for anyone.

Myself I wish NATO and America would butt out and leave the puppets of Saudi Arabia (whoever) and the whole mid-east to settle their own problems. If they are dumb enough to kill each other then so be it.
